I would've made this a lot sooner, but I ended up staying up rather late watching movies with my mom, and today was extremely busy for me.
Four years ago today, when I was quite young, I decided one day that I would make my own forum. I'd been roleplaying for about a month at the time, and had only roleplayed Warriors up to that point.
I wanted a place I could control (that's not a good motive - don't do it for that reason alone), somewhere with my own creations, someplace that would grow huge, have over 50 members on daily, improve my writing skills, and make a lot of friends.
With that in mind, I did it. I made my own ProBoards forum. At first, it was a bunch of crappy, plain little boards, and nothing more. I then messaged my friend Rose, who was more experienced with roleplaying, Warriors, and forums than I was, and she came and taught me the ropes: advertising (why it was important and how to do it properly), affiliating, etc. She ended up playing the first leader of StormClan, who was named Cloudstar. She ended up leaving in October of 2011, but by that time, I had a pretty decent handle of things.
2012 came around, and around February, I got obsessed with Minecraft, along with my group of friends at school. We played constantly (I'm cringing as I write this), and AWRP got to the point where there was only myself and one other member on daily. AWRP's first birthday was coming up around this time (Sand and @goldenbird might remember), and that was when I got my shit together and started advertising and being active again.
Later that year, we were growing stronger, with 10+ active members on daily, and it went from there: 20+, 30+, 40+... now we've almost hit 80 several times (that's my next goal). As we gained more members, we needed more staff, of course. In 2012, I'm pretty sure it was... Foxpaw as a co-admin, @goldenbird as a moderator (later co-admin), and myself, with maybe a few application checkers? Anyway, as time went on, there was no way this forum could be run by three people, so we expanded, and we now have nineteen other wonderful staff members.
A special thanks to our staff is in order, I think: [Acro.], Legit, Clemintine, Lightningtrail, Ambrose, Icestorm, @lilykit, Echo, Glorilyss, Anya, Deku, Wolf, Isilme, Eveningbreeze, @cin, Frost, Heron, Skiv, and Twineheart. You guys help out a lot when I don't have the time, you make sure applications in order, and you help keep the peace amongst the members (although that rarely is an issue as it is). I know it's difficult and stressful work, but it is important, and I think I can speak for all of our members when I say that what you do is greatly appreciated!
The members get a thank-you as well, because without you guys, there isn't a forum. I'm glad to have known you (and for some, I'm happy to have grown with you for several years).
A special shout-out to some of our most loyal members - the ones who have been around for at least a year! Many people have come and gone, but you guys have made it clear that you're here to stay for the long run.
2011: Lotus, Sora (his account doesn't match up, but he's been around since '11)
2012: .masquerade., @goldenbird, Sand
2013: :-Misa-:, @cin, Echo, Legit, [Acro.], @fawnstar, Frost, @lilykit, @onyx, Lightningtrail
2014: (only those from June 26th and before): Clemintine, ☼Шїℓℓ◎ω, Icestorm, Silvergrass Glorilyss, @mysterymagic234, Eveningbreeze (close enough), Finch, @hootthewonderowl
A shout-out to our latest friends, who have made their accounts in the past month and have made a few posts: BigMable, ElizzaBear, @elf, @agigabyte, Fablie, Emmryn, @aussir, Rogue, @echowolf, Specklebird, @wolfe, @lilygold, Ferretpaw, @iamrae, @newaccount, @pepper, and @absolutezero.
We even got a few members while I was writing this thread: Welcome, @caroline and dąe!
Throughout four years, we've made many characters, improved our writing abilities, plotted, and roleplayed to make 18,968 threads and 160,300 posts (as of me writing this). In the last three months alone, we have made 2,990 threads, 20,582 posts, and have received 395 members.
Here are links to the previous birthday posts (the first one is very cringey, be warned):
1st birthday thread. I'd like to think I've come a long way from writing announcements like that.
2nd birthday thread.
3rd birthday thread.
Four years have gone by. Sometimes, it feels like I just made the forum yesterday; in fact, I often find myself daydreaming of one of the early days of the forum, sitting in my sister's yard with my laptop, relaxing and working on my new forum. I was so excited that I didn't imagine that running a forum would eventually turn into actual work. It's usually worth it, though. I often look through really old posts of mine and the amount of change in the forum - everything from how I handled situations to the structure and features - really shows through, and that's when I remember just how old this forum is. Let's face it: four years is a long time for a forum, especially one with such a popular theme, to be running, when there are hundreds of others out there. Many forums don't make it to their first year, let alone their fourth. I consider myself very lucky when I see what we've achieved here on Another Warrior Roleplay.
Interestingly, it started off as just that: another warrior roleplay. I couldn't think of a name, didn't want anything special and sparkly, so I thought something that would come off as both true and a bit humorous would work best, thus "Another Warrior Roleplay". As time has gone by, I've been told by members that this isn't just another warrior roleplay, but I think the name still fits it.
Make sure to post here, because you'll receive $5,000 and will be entered in a raffle to win something else!
Here's to AWRP running strong for 4 years, and all the more birthdays to come!
