The Calm Before the Storm (Twine)

A large gray tabby figure was peacefully sleeping in one of the corners of the warriors den, dreaming of the the thrill of a hunt. but before the dream could come to a satisfying end, Dawnflight heard some of the other warriors start to stir. She opened her pale green eyes groggily, but the drowsiness left the young warrior as soon as she realized that it was the first day of training for her new apprentice Stonepaw (Twineheart) was her first apprentice, but she was excited and up for the challenge.

After giving herself a quick grooming, she hopped out of her nice warm nest made of moss and down before scrambling for the entrance of the den, careful not to wake up the remaining cats. Dawnflight quickly poked her head out of the warriors den before racing out into the clearing to see that it had rained earlier. Even though she she-cat loved the rain, which many others probably thought odd, she knew that this would make the training a bit trickier.

Sidestepping the muddy puddles in the clearing, Dawnflight skidded to a halt outside of the apprentice den. Poking her head in, she peered through the gloom, trying to spot the gray tabby tom that was Stonepaw. Without any luck spotting him, she called out quietly, "Stonepaw, it's time to train!", before stepping out of the den, hoping that he had heard her. Waiting, she glanced up at the sky to see with dismay that the cloudcover still hadn't let up from the earlier shower.

Stonepaw who slept sprawled out in his messy nest, stirs slowly at the sound of his mentor's voice. One of his fluffy grey ears flickering to the side, and slowly but surely his pale leaf green eyes blink open. He yawns loudly his jaws parting to reveal his shiny white teeth, his long pink tongue curling as he does so. Sitting up he stretches and grins a little. " Coming Dawnflight!" He calls his voice slightly muffled with sleep. Shaking his groggy head to clear it, he starts to feel excitement bubbling in his chest. Today was his first day as an official apprentice!

Purring Stonepaw exits the apprentice den, only to nearly collide with the grey tabby who he knew to be Dawnflight. " Whoops! Sorry Dawnflight!" He mews, sidestepping quickly and managing to avoid bumping into the larger older she-cat. He quickly sits his haunches on the soggy ground and dips his head " Morning! What will we be doing today?" He asks her, shifting his paws which were already turning a muddy brown coloration from the soggy ground.

Hearing purring come from the apprentice den, Dawnflight turned her head to see her new apprentice finally come out. The she-cat quickly moved out of the way before Stonepaw could bump into her. "It's fine, furball, and good morning to you too!" she replied to the young tom jokingly, amusement showing in her pale green eyes.

The gray warrior turned towards the entrance of the Midnightclan camp and motioned for Stonepaw to follow her with a flick of her feathery tail. "Only since it's wet today, I'll take you to the river that makes the border with Stormclan, and then I'll teach you how to hunt," Dawnflight mewed in answer to his question. She glanced back, hoping to see him following. "Some other time, I'll give you a tour of the rest of the territory. How does that sound?"

Stonepaw is slightly surprised to hear the older she-cat call him a fur ball. but recognizing the humor in her tone he huffs, his whiskers twitching in his own amusement. Suddenly realizing he'd forgotten to groom his fluffy fur he quickly laps a paw and runs it over his face several times. When he blinks his eyes however Dawnflight was moving away, " Coming!" He mumbles stumbling after her over the muddy ground. His paws completely brown with mud as he trod along.

Flickering his thick ears up at Dawnflight's words he smiles a little. " Sounds great to me." He admits excited about hunting near the river. What if they saw an otter or maybe a Stormclanner!? That would be cool, he thought stifling an excited purr. Flickering his fluffy tail through the air he does his best to keep pace with his mentor. " What will we be hunting?" He asks Dawnflight as they leave the security of camp and enter the oak tree forest of Midnightclan.

The she-cat turned her head to face forward when she caught the young apprentice stumble from the mud on the waterlogged ground, trying to hide her slightly bemused smile. She probably would've dome the same thing if she were Stonepaw. After waiting for him to catch up to her, Dawnflight started to lead the way through the forest to the river.

As they walked, she glanced back to Stonepaw when he asked the question. Thinking a moment before answering, she mewed, "Well, we'll probably see some water voles and squirrels around there. And don't forget the fish!" Soon, Dawnflight could spot the river, and she quickened her pace to a trot, even though it was hard because of all the mud.

Stonepaw listened with bright and curious eyes as Dawnflight spoke. His face very eager as they trod through the mud that coated the ground. Though he felt soggy and mud covered his fluffy underbelly turning it brown he didn't mind. He was too focused on their surroundings. " Wow!" he exclaims when she finishes speaking of all the possible things they might see. " Have you ever caught a fish Dawnflight?" He inquires knowing Midnightclanners weren't known for their fishing skills.

Ahead the rover came into view and Stonepaw froze for a moment, his pale leaf green eyes widening. Before him the river glittered as it rushed by its blue green depths dark as the clouds overhead. The roar of the water brought with it a mist which clung to the already soggy tom's grey fur. Blinking he realizes he was falling behind and scrambles after Dawnflight. Catching up he walks at her side, his gaze glued to the shimmering water's surface, his tail tip flickering nervously.
