We've been watching the survey, and almost half of the people who have taken it have complained about the staff in some way (stating that some of us are impolite, unnecessarily harsh, downright rude, passive-aggressive, snide, etc.). For a lot of us on the team, the chatboxes are ... the source of our not-so-grand behavior usually. It stresses us out and makes it harder to run the forum, but we need at least one person to moderate it. It's easy to say "well, those of you who are stressed should just leave the chatbox for a while", but when that applies to a good chunk of the team, it's not that plausible. I'm often called to the chatbox to answer questions that are more obscure, because the other staff members have never had to answer that particular question before. While that's not exactly stressful or difficult for me, it does make it harder to stay away from the chat overall. We can't really have the chatboxes up when most of the staff members are taking a break from the cboxes because we're worried that we're the impolite/rude/snide ones (I'm planning on making an announcement specifically to the staff about this stuff so we can all rest a bit better, but that will be a bit later). We're all a bit on edge right now, and it might be easier to just take a step back, remove the chatboxes, and chill on the forum alone for a bit. The app-checkers can't moderate the chatbox on their own.
A lot of people also apparently feel that the chat is immature and, while it is useful for plotting and making friends, it can also be a chaotic place.
Wow, that was poorly-written. I just can't seem to get my point across here.
We want to see how the forum runs without the chatbox. It could be a week, a month, six months, whatever. Maybe everything will go smoother for everyone on AWRP when the chat isn't there. Maybe the staff will feel a little more refreshed, as a whole, after the chatbox has been gone for a while.
It's just a small experiment, and we want your opinions on the matter.
ETA: To be clear, I don't want this just for the staff. I honestly think it would be better for the forum as a whole if we got rid of the chatbox. I really want to see how the forum goes without the chat. Will there be more roleplaying? More plotting? Can we still make friends just as easily without a chat?
