Minnows, Frogs, and Tadpoles Oh My! [Lionhearted]

( Lionhearted I thought I would set up a thread for Tigerpaw and Heronpaw^^)

It was a rather warm day for leaf-fall, the sun shining brilliantly over Susnetclan's territory. Like a giant golden beacon it shined down upon the sandy shores, and over the thin grasses of the camp. Off a ways away from the camp was the robust form of Heronpaw, his grayish-blue and white form could be found splashing through the tadpole pools. His vivid green eyes flickering happily in the reflection off the water. Down below he watched as minnows darted off away from his white paws. He wasn't really trying to hunt them but merely playing a game to see if you could swipe them up in the air. His entire plush coat was soaked to the bone, and his whiskers drooped with water drops. but the tom seemed completely content in the pools, splashing about in his zealous manner. Occasionally he'd pause and allow the minnows to think he'd left before pouncing forward again to swat at them.

Tigerpaw spotted Heronpaw swatting the water, and curious, came over. She'd never known Heronpaw well, but they had been denmates since they'd both been born. "What are you doing?" she asked. "Fishing, or playing with the water? You look really silly with all your fur wet," she chuckled, "and your whiskers drooping and stuff."

Heronpaw's ears twitch some when Tigerpaw's voice reaches them. Looking up his vivid gaze falls upon the she-cat and he grins at her some. " Oh hey Tigerpaw!" He calls out a purr escaping his throat as he waves his white tipped tail. At her question he chuffs a bit. " Nahh! I'm just playing a game." he says giggling a little when she mentions he looks funny. " Do I?" He says shaking his pelt so that water splashes on her. " Whoops! " He chuckles. " Sorry! Anyways I was just playing with the minnows." He adds looking back at the water. " Like this!" He says and using a paw he flicks a fish up into the air. The silver minnow goes up a short ways and splashes back down into the water. Heron paw glances at Tigerpaw beaming, " Wanna play?" He asks her always eager to have company.

Tigerpaw sniffed as he shook water onto her. She didn't like getting partially wet; it didn't make her feel clean. "No, thanks," she said ruefully as he hooked up the minnow, letting the poor thing jump up, "the warrior code says not to play with your food. So I'm not going to. I'll just watch. Are you going to catch any soon?"

( Lol Heronpaw is like covered in something: Dirt, sand, water etc. like 90 % of the time! Lol Gonna drive Tigerpaw crazy XD!)

Heronpaw feels a little disappointed when Tigerpaw turns down his offer to join in. but never one to dwell he merely shrugs his shoulders. " Suit yourself." he says having never been one to care much about being clean. No more often than not the tom was covered in something, whether it be sand or water or even seaweed. He just never seemed to care about his appearance. Though lucky for him his plush coat was short and seemed to stay pretty clean on its own.

At Tigerpaw's last words he frowns cocking his head to the side. " I'm not using my claws." He points out holding up a sheathed paw. " And they swim away fine." He adds nodding to the minnows. " I don't think it really hurts them any but perhaps I'll catch a few." He says his eyes flicking back to the fish. He waits a while before dipping his paw in quickly and sending the fish flying up onto the dry ground beside Tigerpaw. Leaping from the water and sending it in all directions he pounces on the minnow and kills it.

Tigerpaw stared in silence for a while as she watched him kill minnows; then, feeling obligated, she stood as well and sat closer to him. Dipping her paw in, she flicked it up with a quick movement, sending loads of minnows flying. She quickly put a claw through all of them, then turned to him, smiling. "You know, this is kinda fun."

Heronpaw had glanced at Tigerpaw when she had scooted up beside him. Watching in admiration as she whacked some minnows from the water and killed them all in one swipe. He grins a little at her words, a purr escaping his throat. " Yeah! Even more so if you come in the water!" He adds pouncing back into the pool with a splash. For a moment the minnows scatter but it doesn't take long for the dim witted fish to return. Allowing Heronpaw to catch a few more. Once he felt he'd caught enough he leaps from the water beside her and shakes his pelt out so it soaks her. His vivid green eyes dancing playfully as he does so. He couldn't quite understand why she refused to get in the water, so why not bring the water to her? Pouncing out of battering range, the tom cocks his head at her in a playful manner. " Bet you can't catch me!" He teases, eyes shining.

"Oh, please!" Tigerpaw said playfully, then splashed after Heronpaw without a second hesitation. Ducking underwater, she propelled herself forward, desperately working her way towards the tom. "Wait...up!" she called out. "I'm not the best swimmer," she muttered under her breath. Her thick coat was slowing her down, and it frustrated her.

Heronpaw was enthralled when Tigerpaw finally let into the shallow pool. Ducking as the water splashed him in the face, he sneezes the water from his nose and beams at her. " You can touch the bottom silly!" He says his paws scrapping the bottom some as he looks back at her, his white tail tip flickering just above the water's surface. " There are only a few deep spots." He adds slipping under the water and then resurfacing right next to her. " BOO!" He exclaims, vivid green eyes dancing with a playful glimmer. Just happy the she-cat had finally decided to come and play. He reaches a white paw from the water to batter her whiskers.

Tigerpaw shrieked as Heronpaw exploded out of the water. "Not funny!" she exclaimed as a wave washed over her head. "Hey!" she complained as the other apprentice playfully batted at her whiskers. "Come back here!" giggling, she launched herself at him, landing on top and submerging him briefly. Then, she rolled over and flopped down in the shallows, purring.

Heronpaw cannot help but laugh at Tigerpaw's exclamation, his vivid eyes dancing. " I thought it was pretty funny!" He teases her, as she complains about his playful battering of her whiskers. Then the she-cat launches herself forward causing him to sink beneath the water's surface, bubbles streaming to the surface. He resurfaces moments later with a purr blinking water out of his eyes and joining her in the shallows. He headbutts her shoulder before plopping down beside her, a grin on his maw. " See told ya the water was way more fun!" He says with a cheeky smile.

"I never said it wasn't," Tigerpaw teased, and submerged herself. The minnows swam by her face, floating past her whiskers, batting her body. She laughed, and a couple of bubbles came to the surface, which made her smile silently. Finally needing a breath, she popped out, and playfully splashed her friend. "Ha!" she shrieked, then immediately submerged again to avoid his return splash.

Heronpaw snorts watching as the she-cat disappeared beneath the water. Shaking his pelt some, he remains where he is his white under belly pressed to the muddy bottom of the pool. A purr of amusement escaping him as he watched Tigerpaw's shadow beneath the water. When she surfaced sending a splash over him, he laughs jumping up and away. " Hey!" He exclaims grinning toothily in her direction. but once more she had dipped beneath the water disappearing. He sits back down, tail tip twitching as he awaits her return, this time prepared to pounce.

Tigerpaw flicked her tail impatiently. Was his head going down, or not? Frowning, she twitched her ears. She waited a bit longer, then her body seemed to decide that it no longer could hold so much breath. Then, when there was no response, she peeked out of the water tentatively.

Heronpaw took the opportunity to pounce, his paws landing a short distance from her so that a splash of water hits her face. " Ha! Got you!" He exclaims purring excitedly. Then he turns and leaps out of the water, shaking his plush coat free of excess water. Now looking a little like a porcupine he play bows, waving his tail tip in the air. " Bet you can't catch me!" He teases hopping backwards a few times in a taunting manner hoping she'd chase him. His round vivid green eyes shimmer with delight, as he awaits the fellow apprentice's actions.
