Kits just wanna have have fun! (OPEN)

The blue-gray she-kit looked around the nursery with curiosity. Featherkit was 5 moons old, soon she would be an apprentice, and leave the nursery behind. Featherkit was excited to become an apprentice, but she'd heard they had to work really hard and be very serious about their training, she didn't want to do either. At that moment Featherkit decided she play and have as much fun as possible until she became an apprentice. Her green eyes with flecks of gold looked around the nursery for someone to play with, unfortunately she didn't know many besides her siblings and mother. Anyone want to play a game? She asked no in particular.

Birchpaw padded into the nursery, two mice and a thrush dangling from his jaws. Out of all of his apprentice duties, this was probably his favorite, followed closely by helping the elders. Birchpaw adored the little kits, his soft, gentle nature showing prominently every time he entered the nursery.

He dropped the prey by the paws of a queen and turned to leave when he heard the squeak of a kit. He turned to see who had spoken and after a moment of thinking recognized Featherkit.

"Hi," he mewed softly. "If you're looking for someone to play with, I've got a few minutes."

"That would be great! Your an apprentice right?" Featherkit looked up at him both adoringly, but also sizing Birchpaw up, trying to determine how much completion he would be. "I bet you can't beat me at mudball!" Featherkit's arrogance shone through her bright and bubbly demeanor. She rolled a tightly packed ball of mud and grass out of the corner, keeping it between her paws waiting for him to iniate the game.

Birchpaw was a bit surprised by the kit's reaction, but at the same time found himself amused by her energy. He wished more apprentices had that kind of spirit.

"Challenge accepted," he mewed. He really wasn't sure how to play, but it sounded messy, so Birchpaw prepared himself for whatever was to come.

"Alright" Featherkit smiled almost deviously "One rule, get the ball past your opponent". She faked hitting it left and then hit it to his right side with as much force as her tiny body could muster. Featherkit's eyes watched the ball closely, never missing a second of what was happening.

Birchpaw was caught off guard by the start of the game and dodged left as an instinct. When he saw the mudball going right, he tried to stop it, but it flew past him, slamming into the nursery wall and busting apart, spraying him with mud in the process.

"Hey, I wasn't ready," Birchpaw complained good-naturedly, a happy glint in his eyes as he gathered his own ball of mud with one paw. When he had gathered enough, with a quick flick of a paw, he flung it towards Featherkit, straight down the middle, expecting her to dodge to one side.

Featherkit rejoiced silently in her victory, and when the ball came she by instinct dove to the left. When the mudball combusted against the wall she was shocked, Featherkit had never played with someone who hit it down the middle. "but..." She started then stopped herself, he'd done everything right. She narrowed her eyes determined to win against Birchpaw, she gathered another ball of mud but smaller.

First Featherkit hit the ball to Birchpaw's right, but then ran towards the ball before it got close enough for him to block it and swiped it left. Her tail tip flicked with anticipation of what would happen.

Birchpaw prepared himself for the next round as the she-kit gathered another ball of mud. She flicked it left, but this time, he merely stretched out a paw, wary of any tricks she might attempt to pull. She might try the same trick again since it had worked the last time. When he saw her coming towards him, he dodged right, prepared for her to swipe it in that direction. Sure enough, Featherkit dodged forward and swiped it right, but Birchpaw had overshot it and land with a crash into the side of the nursery while the mudball slammed into the back wall. Oops.

Featherkit couldn't hide her delight in scoring, she beamed happily as the ball hit the wall. She knew though that her antics wouldn't work forever, she had to change her game. While waiting for Birchpaw to try is luck she devised a new plan, unfortunately she really didn't have experience with this, the other kits always fell for her fake outs.

Birchpaw stood up and collected another mudball, all the while devising a new strategy. She probably wouldn't fall for his last trick another time, and she obviously had the whole fake thing figured out pretty well, so what could he do?

Then he remembered something- the rules just said get it past. They didn't say how.

Waiting until Featherkit was ready, he prepared himself, gripping the mossball in his teeth this time instead of his claws.

After a moment, he bolted forward, and at the last second dodged to the side, tossing the mossball and landing on his side. He quickly stood up to witness how his plan would play out.

Featherkit looked at Birchpaw wide-eyed, why did he have the ball in his mouth? She'd never felt so confused playing a game. When Birchpaw charged with the ball in his mouth and threw it, Featherkit dived but fell short and the ball hit the wall. Featherkit once again was left completely, and utterly shocked.

At the beginning of this game she had been sure she'd win paws down. Now she realized what real completion this was. Featherkit rolled a mossball trying to formulate some kind of scoring strategy that would win her the game. Suddenly an idea came to her.

After she had her mossball gathered she placed it in front of her. Featherkit turned around and kicked the mossball with her back legs as hard and high as she possibly could. She turned back around quickly to see how Birchpaw would respond to this.

Birchpaw hardly had time to recover before Featherkit kicked the ball, sending it sailing through the air. Birchpaw leaped up, paws outstretched, trying to catch it with a claw, but it was too high for him to reach. It once again hit the nursery wall, and Birchpaw landed with a thud.

He stood up, shaking his head, trying to clear his head of stars.

"You're pretty good at this game," he mewed to the kit, all the while gathering a new mudball. He wasn't out yet.

Featherkit nodded appreciatively at the comment. She was grinning very widely again, her eyes watching him closely. This time she couldn't let him surprise her, she had to keep her head in the game and block the ball no matter what he did. Her tail swished with anticipation, her body was lose, ready to move and dodge the ball whenever he hit it.

Birchpaw knew he had to come up with a perfect plan to fool her- and in that moment, he thought of one.

He continued to create the mudball with his front paws, but at the same time he created another mudball with his hind paws that would hopefully be hidden from her sight.

When he was finished, he launched the first ball in an arch to the side. It wouldn't be too difficult to get to, but it should distract her. Then, a split second later, he launched the other to the other side, low and fast.

Featherkit saw the first one coming and easily dodged it, but she also saw the second one coming. Panicked, she tired to dodge the second one but in her haste she jumped up to dodge the second one instead of blocking the second on the ground. She dug her claws into the ground in frustration, she had no idea how to fool Birchpaw and she had to win, Featherkit stood there for a second dumb-founded and quite frankly angry with herself for not being adequate enough to win.

Featherkit gave up and decided to just go off instinct. She formed another ball quickly, surprise and speed was all she and left. Featherkit ran with the ball and charged Birchpaw. After coming only a mouse tail length away she shifted her direction and slapped the ball right as fast as she could.
