Heatherkit sat a few tail lengths away from the entrance to the nursery. Her mother had said that she wasn't allowed to stray too far from the den without someone with her. So the blind little kit just laid down on the soft grass, tail swishing behind her softly. The sun was hot, warming her back a little too quickly for comfort. However there was a light, cool breeze in the air. It was a little past midday and Heatherkit could hear the Warriors coming in and out of camp, birds moving from tree to tree and other little things.

Tawnypaw strode into camp with his usual swagger. His thick tail held high in the air, a single squirrel dangling from his jaws. He was very proud of his catch considering hunting wasn't his forte. It may of taken him all morning to capture but nobody needed to know that. So padding across camp confidently he throws the squirrel on top of the pile and sits to lick his broad chest. Glancing around he is disappointed to find nobody had noticed his arrival. Bummer, he thought licking his single white forepaw and running it over his white maw. Then his lightning yellow eyes light on a kit sitting all alone in front of the nursery. He eyes the kit curiously. It wasn't often kits sat so quietly and kept out of trouble he sure as hell hadn't.

" Hey you there." he calls out, flickering his thick ears. " What are you doing?" he asks the kit, not having the faintest idea of what the kit's name was. He rarely gave them much thought, he was too busy becoming the best warrior in the clan he was.

As the wind blew it brought it the scent of fresh caught prey. It was a squirrel Heatherkit learned each prey's scent as soon as she was old enough to eat something other than her mother's milk. Her mouth water a little at the scent as squirrels were her favorite prey at the moment. Every other day she changes her mind of prey was her favorite because after having lived on milk for so long, prey was the best thing ever.

Her head shot up when someone shouted out Hey you there! She turned her head around, trying to pin point where the sound had come from. "Me? I'm not doing anything." Heatherkit called out sheepishly. She was worried that she was in trouble.

Tawnypaw watched as the youngsters head shot up when he called to her. but her ears flickered and her eyes... they didn't seem to see him. Realizing she must be blind he pads a little closer. " Yeah you..." He says, halting about a tail length before her, he waves his tail around. He hadn't the faintest idea how to talk woth a blind cat, was it the same as talking with a seeing one? he wondered. " What's your name?" He asks after a slight pause. Deciding he would just treat the kit as he would any of the other kits who came across his path. Waiting for her response the large tom, takes a seat before the kit his tail wrapping over his large forepaws.

The small cat swallowed hard, wondering if she did something wrong. She knew how far from the nursery she was, just about 20 kit sized paw steps. She scrambled to her paws, sitting up on them. She carefully wrapped her tail around her paws. She noticed that he was now in front of her, waiting patiently for her to answer. I wonder if he's a warrior. If so, I'm definitely in trouble. "I'm Heatherkit. What's your name?" Her voice was soft and warm.

Tawnypaw's lightning yellow gaze never leaves Heatherkit even though she cannot see him. " Heatherkit?" He repeats, his head tilting some as he spoke. Noticing the way she sat up in front of him. Well at least she knew to respect her superiors, he thought appprovingly. " I'm Tawnypaw." he adds at her question his chest puffing up proudly. Though she couldn't see his chest the pride was clear in his voice. " I've never met a kit who wasn't up to something..." he adds with a chuff. " Don't you have siblings to play with?" He adds glancing around for others.

Heatherkit nodded her white and grey head. "Yes, that's me." She sat up straighter, a soft smile painted on her face. Hearing that he was an apprentice, she relaxed mentally. Oh good, so maybe I'm not in trouble, she thought to herself. She tasted the air, trying to remember the scent with his name.

It might seem strange to others that she isn't playing with others but she was fine with that. "O-Oh, well, I like to sit outside alone sometimes. I do have siblings but I think they are off playing moss ball or something."

Tawnypaw is taken aback by her reply. " Sit alone? Doesn't that bore you?" He remarks with a snort and a shake of his skull. As a youngster Tawnypaw had never given up the chance to cause whatever amount of trouble he could find. " Ya know just cause your blind doesn't mean you can't have fun." He adds crouching down lower so he is level with the kit his breath stirring her whiskers, a mischievous gleam in the depths of his lightning yellow eyes. " Isn't there something you'd like to be doing better than just sitting here?" He adds his voice rather troublesome. Like he was once again a kit himself, trying to convince his littermates into causing trouble.

The she-cat shook her head. It doesn't bore me. I like listen to cats talking, seeing what prey warriors amd apprentices bring back. She said swertly. She was the little kit that was looking for gossip. She kept her sightless blue eyes on the direction where his voice was coming from. The gray and white tabby listened to him, trying to make sense to why she wasn't off playing with other kits. Of course I would like to be off doing something fun. but because I am blind, I can't do anything alone. I play warriors sometimes with the other kits but I don't get attacked much because they are afraid of scaring me. When I attack them, I know they are holding back a bit. So, I'd rather be out here than in there, getting simpathy.

" Don't you mean smelling prey?" Tawnypaw teases, though it wasn't intended to be malicious. Then he falls into a curious silence listening to the young kit explain why she liked to sit around rather than reek havoc. When she finished he snorts, and shakes his skull. " Who cares what those other kits think!" he says rolling his lightning yellow eyes and flickering Heatherkit with his thick tail tip. " If you feel those other kits holding back then just go for it! If you beat them more than once they ain't gonna hold back any longer!" He adds his chest fur fluffed up some as he spoke. " And who says you can't do things on your own? " he adds with a tutting noise. " I'm pretty sure there have been loads of blind cats in Leafclan. I'm sure you can figure your way around the clearing enough to be on your own. That's what these ears and nose are for!" He finishes his tail tip swiping her ears and then bopping her softly on the nose. " You just have to be smart enough to use em!"

Heatherkit nodded her head as he explained how she can fight back. She wanted to fight back harder, she just hasn't gotten the chance to. Either her mother calls her away or her siblings fake it and say that she's too much. Her life is never going to be normal...but that's a good thing, right? No one wants to be normal...normal is boring. I've tried fighting back. I still get pity and I don't want that.

She knew where most things were in the camp. Her mother had taken her on a tour so she would know where everything was. Heatherkit's ears flicked when she felt his tail come across them. She then laughed softly as she felt it hit her nose. My mother is too afraid something will happen to me. So if I want to go away from the nursery where she can't see me, I have to have someone with me. Or I will get in major trouble. I know where everything is, u just can't go off on my own. She thought for a moment. but...I could go off and do something fun if you took me... She smiled and blinked her blue eyes.

Tawnypaw snots and shakes his head. " Your going to have to learn to ignore those other cats. Cause there are some who will always pity you." He remarks to the younger cat his broad shoulders shrugging. He then listens further to her talk and nods his head some. " Oh well in that case what do you want to do?" He asks the she-kit his lightning yellow gaze gleaming brightly.

Heatherkit nodded her head as she listened to Tawnypaw. She didn't want pity, she just wanted to be treated normally. I know, I just want others to look at me as a normal cat. The grey and white kit rose to her paws and thought for a moment. What could they do? Her icy blue eyes gleamed with excitement. What if we went outside the camp?

Tawnypaw flickers Heatherkit's ear with his thick tail tip. " Well the first step in being treated normal is acting like you have no idea your blind." He says encouragingly. Then at the younger cat's suggestion Tawnypaw's eyes lit up with mischievous delight. " I like how you think." He says grinning some. " Come on we'll slip out under the barrier of the dirt place tunnel so no one sees you leave." He adds in a hushed tone excitement prickling his tortoiseshell pelt, as he turned to lead the way. He waits to see if she would follow or not.

Act like you have no idea you're blind. Heatherkit thought in her head. Well, that would be hard since she does know that she is blind. Plus asking questions about some things that a seeing cat would know is important for her because she needed to learn everything that way. However, she did understand what he meant by it. The grey and white kit gave him a nod of the head and continued to listen to him.

He said yes! She was going to go outside. She had been out once with her friend Ashkit but since Tawnypaw was an apprentice, he would know more about the territory and show her more. This was so exciting! The kit followed him eagerly to the dirt path that would lead them to the outside world.
