Sunstar stood at the entrance of her den, silently observing the camp. Today she was to perform the ceremonies despite the freezing weather. The growing cats of LeafClan would be a ray of hope in this devastating snow. She turned to the side as a fit of coughing overtook her. Several of her clanmates had gotten greencough this leafbare, and with the spreading sickness she was afraid that she had caught it as well. However, she could show no weakness. As long as she stood strong, her clan would too.

Sunstar held her head high as she strode out of the comfort of her den and into the middle of the clearing. She was performing these ceremonies later than she normally would. Part of the reason was that she was feeling sick, but the other was that the mornings were now too cold. She had waited until her namesake was higher in the sky, peeking out shyly through the gloomy clouds. It gave little of its usual warmth, but somehow she felt better with the bright sun visible. "All cats loyal to LeafClan and LeafClan alone gather for a meeting!" She called, waiting patiently for her clan to gather. 

"Today we have lots of young cats ready to advance in rank. First, we will have our apprentices." Her voice was strong despite the Greencough that was swiftly sapping her strength.

"Thrushpaw, Icestorm, You have proven yourself to LeafClan and I am honored to present you with your warrior name. From this day forward you shall be known as Thrushheart for your loyalty.

Antpaw, Icestorm, You have worked hard and are now worthy to receive your warrior name. From this day forward you shall be known as Antpounce for your excellent hunting skills.

Bumblepaw, Isilme, You have worked as hard as one can to earn their place in the clan. From this dayforward you shall be known as Bumbleblaze for your skill in battle."

The golden tabby stopped speaking as her amber gaze swept over each newly named warrior. She gave a small smile as she pushed down another coughing fit. "I hope that each of these young warriors will lend their strength to our clan for as long as they live." She mewed before turning her gaze to look for the kits that were bound to be expecting their own ceremonies as well. "Now we will move on to the kits that are readyto be apprenticed." She added after her short pause. 

"Sweetkit, Icestorm, You have reached the age of six moons and it is now time for you to be apprenticed. From now until you receive your warrior name you shall be known as Sweetpaw. I hope that Leaffur, Inkheart, will teach you all that he can.

Troutkit, Echo, You have reached the age of six moons and you are now ready to become an apprentice of LeafClan. From now until you receive your warrior name you will be known as Troutpaw. I hope that Robinflight, Ferretpaw, will teach you all she knows.

Owlkit, Echo, You have reached the age of six moons and you are now ready to be apprenticed. From this day until you receive your warrior name you shall be known as Owlpaw. I hope that Falconwing, DanaBelle, will teach you all she knows.

Hickorykit, Legit, You have reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From now until you receive your warrior name you shall be known as Hickorypaw. I hope that Thundersong, Anya, will teach you all that he knows.

Ashkit, Anya, You have reached the age of six moons and you are ready to become an apprentice. From this day until you receive your warrior name you shall be known as Ashpaw. I hope that Whiteleaf, Whiteleaf, will teach you all she knows. 

Heatherkit, @scarlett, You have reached the age of six moons and it is now time for you to become an apprentice of LeafClan. From this day until you receive your warrior name you will be known as Heatherpaw. I will be your mentor, and I will do the best I can to teach you the ways of a LeafClan warrior.

Pinekit, Wolf, You have reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From now until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Pinepaw. I hope that Frostwind, Skiv, will teach you all that he knows.

Poppykit, Asher, You have reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to become an apprentice. From this day until you receive your warrior name you shall be known as Poppypaw. I hope that Flintstone, @sugar, will teach you all he knows."

She paused as she finished the last ceremony. She had just turned around to go back to her den when she remembered something else. She turned around quickly, searching for the black warrior she had demoted to apprentice two moons ago. She hadn't meant for his punishment to go this long, but she had been unable to solve that at the last ceremonies.

"I also have one other announcement. Two moons ago I demoted a warrior to apprentice status. I meant for his punishment to only last a moon, but now is better than never. Nightpaw, Isilme, You have served your clan well these two moons as an apprentice, but I would like to give you your warrior name back." She stopped a moment to catch her breath. Maybe she should go see the medicine cat after this. "You will once again be known as Nightfox. Please perform your warrior duties better this time around." 

At this point, she turned back again. She quickly made her way back to her den to enjoy the little warmth of her nest.

Thrushpaw and Antpaw made their way out of the apprentice den, both moving towards their parents and younger kin. The large apprentice moved to sit next to Thornfur. His eyes glancing to Sweetkit who was sitting between the large toms front legs, cleaning her fur. Thornfur looked proud. As he should with his kits now 6 moons old. They would be apprentices this ceremony no doubt.

"Think this is our ceremony too?" Thrushpaw looked to his smaller brother without answering his question. He wasn't sure. They both proved to be warrior material, but who knew what a ceremony called for or rather who. "Nah, don't answer that. You might hurt your head thinking too much." Thornfur glared at Antpaw for his remark, as the tom moved to sit near Birdheart.

"I bet you'll be my mentor Thornfur!" Sweetkit said excitedly. Thornfur didn't bother to correct the small kit. He only bumped her with his leg to show her he heard.

Thrushpaw was shocked to hear Sunstar call his name first in the ceremony. but he remained calm, puffing his chest ever so slighty with some pride. Thrushheart. He couldn't help but think about how he now carried the same suffix as his mother, Birdheart. He promised to carry it with pride.

Antpaw felt a pang of jealous course through him as Thrushheart's name was given first, but he knew that meant he was next. More importantly, that he was right. Antpounce. The small tome couldn't help but feel the name was a surprise. He had hoped for something to finally make sound bigger. Sure he was small, and sick. but he was strong. He had hoped for a better name or at least a name that was like Thrushheart's. It wasn't fair really. He was the brains between the two of them.

A small kit couldn't contain a small squeak of excitement as she finally recieved her apprentice name. Sweetpaw. Her eyes searching for her mentor, still sitting beneath her father.

Thornfur didn't waiver his eyes from Sunstar. Not even as his eldest sons received their warrior names. He was proud of them both. Thrushheart and Antpounce both received names that would make any warrior proud. He would congratulate them later when they all shared tongues. but Thornfur couldn't help but let out a soft quick purr to Sweetpaw's excitement. Such an open little thing she was. All his kits were now apprentices. They were a step closer to being warriors, to live their lives fully as they should. As they always should.

Poppypaw padded through the crowd of cats, looking for Flintstone. Where is he! I've never seen him before! The small tortoiseshell she-cat reached a cat that looked like Flintstone. "Hi, I'm Poppypaw. Are you Flintstone?" I hope he likes me! What if he doesn't? What if he hates me and doesn't want to train me?

A large gray tom stepped forward as Sunstar called his name. Ashpaw. He was already use to it. He had made it! As if on cue his chest tightened to remind him of his frailty. Not now! He shook his head and turned his earthy amber eyes to look for his mentor.

Whiteleaf was a warrior he hadn't been able to catch when he was a kit. but she didn't sound too unfamiliar.

Fawnpaw's ears perked up as Thrushpaw, Antpaw and Bumblepaw received their warrior names. She waited with hope that she would be next but alas the next name called was Sweetkit's as Sunstar moved on to the kits. She couldn't help but sigh in disappointment, her ears drooped.

Honeypaw watched with placid hazel eyes. What struck her was her sisters downcast look. Something moved in her. It was an ugly feeling. Twisted, grotesque, and thriving inside her. "You didn't look so disappointed in the last ceremony. Is there a specific reason?" she asked.

Fawnpaw was startled by her littermate's tone. but this was Honeypaw, she was probably in a bad mood because she wasn't given her name yet. "No...I was just really hoping that we'd get promoted this time." she looked at her paws.

The pale golden tabby's suspicions seem to be confirmed with her sisters reply. Honeypaw narrowed her eyes. The cat before her was clearly an altered Fawnpaw. She may be the same ginger and white she-cat Honeypaw had grown up with, but she had changed. The Fawnpaw she knew wouldn't have expressed her feelings so openly. "Well don't sigh like it's the end," she bit back her harsher words. "It's not becoming."

Thundersong smiled, his voice mixed in with those around him as he cheered but the clear, sweet tone wasn't hidden for long. Gradually it rose higher and higher, much to Nightpatch's annoyance.

Sagewhisker couldn't help but laugh at the obvious discomfort the large black tom showed to his younger golden clanmate's extended enthusiasm.

Goldenleaf stood smiling softly. His tail resting on Ivypaw's shoulder. One day it would be his daughter receiving her warrior name and following the footsteps of a LeafClan cat.

[Whiteleaf]

A ginger and white warrior slipped out of the warriors den and headed straight for the entrance of the Leafclan camp. Whiteleaf paws were itching to go out hunting. but just as she was about to reach the opening, a summoning call pierced through the air. Turning around with a sigh, the she-cat turned around and quickly joined the already-gathering cats.

Sitting down, Whiteleaf wrapped her tail neatly around her paws. She turned her attention to Goldenatar as she started the usual naming ceremonies of apprentices, and then came the kits. Her green eyes widened with surprise when she heard her name being called, to mentor a cat now known as Ashpaw. She honestly did not really remember the name or it's owner, but she was excited just the same for her first apprentice.

Cheering out the names as the ceremonies came to an end, she glanced around to see if she could spot her apprentice. "Ashpaw?" she called, weaving through the crowd. but spotting nothing so far, she spotted Goldenleaf standing next to his daughter and walked towards them. Maybe they would know who Ashpaw was.

Lean muscles moved beneath a ginger tabby pelt. Small, acute ears flickered from voice to voice as Sunstar called forward cats for their ceremonies. Falconwing narrowed his eyes as his name was called. So he was finally given an apprentice. He hoped it wouldn't be a waste of time.

The warrior hadn't really been watching and didn't see what his apprentice looked like.

Large cream paws moved soundlessly across the cold, barren ground. Yellow-green eyes searched the mass of newly apprenticed cats for an Owlpaw. "Which one of you is Owlpaw?" he peered down the bridge of his nose.

[Anya]

"Ashpaw?" Ivypaw's ears swiveled towards a the voice calling for the new apprentice.

"I am not Ashpaw." Geez, if you have gray fur you're automatically Ashpaw. The older apprentice rolled her green eyes, tail tip twitching in irritation.

"Ivypaw," her fathers stern voice made her ears flatten back and she let out an apologetic sigh, muttering under her breath. "I believe he's over there Whiteleaf." Goldenleaf smiled and pointed with his tail towards a large, wide-eyed gray apprentice.

"StarClan! Just call the oaf over!" Ivypaw snapped. "Ashpaw! Your mentor is over here furball." she yelled across the heads of the new apprentices. She was annoyed. No promotion and she'd have to share the den with even more apprentices than before.

Ashpaw turned to the obnoxiously loud voice of Ivypaw. As a kit he had steered clear of the short-tempered apprentice and he planned to do the same now. He slipped through the cats and peered over a plumed tail to see Whiteleaf. The ginger and white she-cat came into view and he bolted forward, stepping on the tail in the process.

"I'm here Whiteleaf!" he huffed.

Owlkit was in no way excited about becoming an apprentice. He wasn't sad or scared, either. He just didn't care. Nothing really mattered anymore, now that he knew his father didn't love him and the rest of his family probably hated him. He didn't want to put the effort into caring about anything, knowing the feeling would never be returned. Owlkit didn't believe his mentor would like him.
When he heard his name change from Owlkit to Owlpaw, he didn't even look up or smile. He stood up and sighed, looking at the ground and pawing at the dirt. His mentor - Falconwing. The name didn't ring a bell.

"Which one of you is Owlpaw?" He heard. He perked his ears slightly and lifted his tail to show where he was, then waited for Falonwing to come and greet him. 'He'll never like me, no one else does' Owlkit thought pessimistically.

The ginger warrior grazed the crowd with his icy stare until he spotted a brown and black tom with his tail up. He was taken aback by Owlpaw's expression. It looked placid and there seemed to be no irritating excitement. Interesting.

"I'm Falconwing," the tom pushed his way through until he was looming over the young cat. "We'll start today- in fact, right now. Let's go." he didn't linger at the spot and had turned tail, heading straight for the entrance. They still had some daylight to squeeze in some training. Tomorrow morning he would take Owlpaw and teach him the landmarks and borders. He would not give others the chance to question his capability as a mentor.

Robinflight was so pleased! She was only 15 moons old and already had a apprentice! Troutpaw... Pushing through cats the hyper warrior grinned, they would have so much fun and train hard! "Troutpaw? Where are you?" Robinflight sniffed jumping and climbing through deep snow. "Troutpaw.. Where are you?" Argh bad start with my first apprentice..

Finally, the day has come. Today was that last day she would be a kit in the nursery. Heatherkit felt very proud at this moment, padding up to the source of Sunstar's voice. The blind cat sat down in front as she heard the sound of paws and voices growing around her. This was her first clan meeting.

Heatherkit stepped up when she heard her name being called. She was finally an apprentice! The grey and white she-cat's paws itched with excitement. When the new apprentice heard who her mentor was, shock overwhelmed her. Sunstar was going to be her mentor! Wow. I get to be trained by the leader. She silently vowed to herself that she was going to be the best apprentice for the leader ever.

Hickorykit puffed out his chest in pride. Not because of his ceremony--for it hadn't happened yet--but for Thrushheart and Antpounce's ceremonies. His kin! His brothers! They were warriors! Hickorykit turned to look at Birdheart, whom he was sitting next to, and whispered, "Do you think it was on purpose, Birdheart? That Thrushheart has almost the same name as you?" He quieted his voice and looked back to Sunstar since he knew he'd be scolded for talking. "I think it was on purpose," he murmured to himself. Him and his littermates were going to be next!

Hickorykit's ceremony was last out of his littermates, but he did not mind. Sweetkit got Leaffur, Troutkit got Robinflight, and Owlkit got Falconwing. I wonder who will be my mentor. ... And me! I got Thundersong! He waited patiently for the ceremonies to end and Sunstar to return to her nest. His one black ear kept twitching with excitement the whole time as if swatting away a fly. At last they were dismissed, and Hickorypaw padded over to his new mentor. He did not walk too fast since he did not want to seem overly excited, though his chest was slightly puffed out. "Thundersong! When are we gonna start training? Can we go with my littermates?"

Thundersong's ears perked at the sound of his name being called by Sunstar. He was going to be a mentor? Beside him he could hear Nightpatch let out a surprises sigh and a faint whisper of how he had his doubts. He didn't let this get him down. He knew Nightpatch found him annoying and was often cold, but the old tom was a softie at heart.

Sagewhisker's tail touched his shoulder briefly and he nodded his thanks at her silent congratulations.

"Thundersong!" The golden and white mackerel tom turned his golden gaze to a younger cat, no doubt Hickorypaw. "When are we gonna start training? Can we go with my littermates?" a smile played at the warriors lips and he let out a small purr.

"Well," he paused, glancing around. "I don't mind but," he leaned forward, whiskers curving in as he reached for the apprentice. It was loud and he knew if he yelled over the noise, Nightpatch would disapprove of him as a mentor even more. "I'm afraid Falconwing has left already with Owlpaw. Why don't I show you around the territory today and tomorrow we can begin training. Perhaps a joint lesson?" he raised his copper flecked eyes to the sky. The clouds were still thick, but they were breaking, and pale strips of blue appeared between them. He lowered his head to settle his soft stare over Hickorypaw.
