Ashfrost could see that Echopaw was shaken up from the encounter. Her eyes roamed over his body, and he became vaguely aware of the fact that clumps of his long fur were missing, ripped off during the fight. What hurt the most was the cut above his eye, however. It had stopped bleeding for the moment, but the pain was almost crippling. The badger's claw had sliced deep, and he somehow knew that he would forever have a scar. The grey warrior peered closely at his apprentice, worried that she was traumatized by the experience. Some hunting trip.
Echopaw stepped back from him suddenly and suggested finding something for his wounds. He shook his head stubbornly, reminded of the mouse that he had caught and buried a ways back. The sun was beginning to set in the sky, and they needed to go back and get it before some other predator came along and snatched it up. There was no time to go on a search for cobwebs; there were some in the medicine cat's den back at camp, and despite the Clan sorely lacking a medicine cat at the moment, cobwebs weren't hard to apply. "There's no time," he said gruffly, feeling the stiffness of the dried blood on his face. "We need to go back and get that mouse and then get our tails back to camp. The badger carcass will attract other predators."
Ashfrost turned to head back to where he had buried the mouse, but then he paused and turned to face Echopaw instead. "You did really well in that fight," he told her honestly, allowing the coldness of his tone to melt and reveal the warmth that lay within. "I couldn't have done that without you. You saved my life. Don't try and downplay that. You're just as good as any other cat, apprentice or warrior. Never forget that."
