It had taken them all day, but they had reached his home. He was glad to be back at the camp as he had been out hunting with his niece all morning. He tossed his head back and turned his face to the dark of the cave. Then he stopped to look at a small pool of water. A little hole filled with water thanks to the rains.
Flamehawk looked up from the pool of water. It took him a moment to register Antfern. He sighed. He didn’t know if she wanted to continue. What happened at the camp was his own secret, but one he would gladly share with Antfern. His ghostly past was the only one who ever knew. Sure everyone knew that his sister had died. They knew she was ate. but no one really understood how that affected him. No one understood.
but Antfern might. They had gone through a life threatening ordeal, well, he had. She had saved him. That had to mean something. Also, he really had no reason to keep it a secret anymore. He wasn’t a part of that anymore. Back then, he locked it up to conform to the group. but he didn’t have to conform anymore. They banished him. He was a Talonclanner, not a rouge, exploring the vast land of their territory had formed, until he joined his birth clan again. He didn’t need to lock up this secret for fear of being rejected or outcast. He was an outcast and he had been rejected from his old rouge group. What did he have to fear?
Losing Antfern. That's what he had to fear.
The smart sting of his guilt told him. but when he thought about it more, he discovered that was more the reason he needed to confess. Locking up something did no good for someone. He had to let it out. And now seemed the perfect time to do it. Until he looked back up and she was gone. Well, crap. Sighing, he sat back and looked into the pool outside the cave entrance.
