Another Normal Day, Right? (Anya)

Heatherpaw made her way into the clearing stretching out her large gray body. She had already done her duties and now was her chance to relax and enjoy the rest of her day. She looked around the clearing, she didn't see any of her sisters, or even her brother. Her ears flatted in disappointment. She sat just outside the entrance of the apprentice den. Well, now who do I talk to, she asked herself. Her tail wrapped around her paws. I suppose I could just wait for one them, but who knows how long that would take. Her eyes watching the clearing, trying to find one of her sisters. I guess I wait. She really hated to be by herself, that usually meant someone was bond to try and talk to her. She really was nervous about having that happen.

[Anya]

Berrypaw was curled up in the shaded areas of the clearing, seemingly asleep until his pink nose began to twitch. He opened his sleepy eyes, their intense gaze dulled as he yawned and stretched into a sitting position. His pale creamy fur was disheveled as he shook his head in an effort to wake up. He began to give himself a quick once over and started to groom himself.

Who’s that? His green eyes caught another cat a few tail lengths away and he decided to go take a look to see who it was. He gave his chest a few quick licks before rising to his paws and padding over cheerfully. He noticed that it was one of his den mates Heatherpaw.

“Hey there!” Berrypaw called in a friendly tone, he was always looking for a new friend. The more he had the better it made him feel.

Heatherpaw had not noticed the creamy tom approaching her, her eyes were more focused on trying to find one of her sisters, even her brother would suffice. 'Hey there!' Heatherpaw's ears twitched to the voice. She turned to see who had greeted her. Almost immediately she felt as though she regretted it. It was Berrypaw, she knew of him, but never felt the need to really talk to him. Now she had to. "Oh, umm hi Berrypaw." She hated talking to other cats, she always got nervous and never knew hat to say. Her tail tip moved back and forth out of her frustration. I guess my sisters will have to wait. "How umm, how are you?"

[Anya]

Berrypaw tilted his head, "I'm well, and you? Are you alright?" he asked giving her an odd look. He was used to cat's being very open with him, this was something new.

Why did she hold back so? Was he intimidating? Did she not like him? Was he...annoying? Berrypaw gave her a concerned look, with confusion hidden behind his green eyes. He didn't like this feeling. As if he wasn't...accepted.

Heatherpaw looked at him, why would he ask if I'm alright? Her ears twitched, wait, am I being that awkward? Great! "Oh umm, well I'm good," she wanted to smile to show she was but feared how it may come off. She looked to him for a moment. "Umm, why are you... looking at me like that?" She knew she wasn't always the easiest cat to talk to, but she didn't feel it was that bad. Wait is there something in my fur? She look herself over quickly. Hmm, I don't see anything.

[Anya]

"Umm, why are you... looking at me like that?"

“Hmm?” Berrypaw was snapped back into reality and the thoughts in his head vanished.

“Oh sorry, didn’t mean to make you feel awkward. I was just thinking.” Berrypaw covered up quickly. “Were you waiting for anyone?” he inquired further, hoping he didn’t sound uncertain before.

He had decided to postpone training after he had done his duties of the day, and now felt himself grow slightly lazier. Which was surprising for a tom who dedicated much of his time to seasoning his skills.

Heatherpaw looked at him skeptically. That was strange. I wonder what he was thinking. "Oh, well... I was waiting for my umm, sisters," She looked around the clearing, "but I don't see them anywhere." She knew logically they might just me out with their mentors, but she wished they would just pop in the camp. She felt as though she was messing up this conversation without one of them near her.

She turned back to Berrypaw, "So umm, do you have any siblings?" She had to try and be less awkward and nervous. I'm smarter than this, she said to herself, I can talk to others, without them. She let a small sigh.

[Anya]

"So ummm, do you have any siblings?"

Berrypaw's heart raced at that question. His ears grew hot and he grew quite uncomfortable under her gaze. As innocent has the question was it caused a great deal of pain to inflict upon his mind and heart. He felt his chest tighten and his stomach flip. but he couldn't show weakness, or doubt, or anything!

Berrypaw...relax...relax...relax... He closed his eyes for a heartbeat before smiling -his usual facade. "Yes, five in fact." he hoped she would drop the topic soon and move on to something else.

Heatherpaw looked to the large smiling tom. He seemed a bit odd, but then again she knew she wasn't exactly normal either. "Five? Oh... well I have four... Three sisters, and ahh older brother." She smiled to herself as she talked about her family. They seemed to be the one thing that got her to smile so easily. She would do anything for them. She looked down to her paws awkwardly. She wasn't very good at this whole talking thing. Yet Berrypaw was intriguing, there was something odd about him, something that Heatherpaw couldn't name.

[Anya]

Wishful thinking Berrypaw... he restrained a sigh of disappointment. "I have one sister," Correct. "and four brothers." Wrong. Three. For the cast out would never accept him as a brother. He replied, tone perky and cheerful. He would have to change the topic himself.

"So, what have you done in training so far?" he asked quickly.

[Icestorm]

Heatherpaw felt a genuine smile cross her face to him. She wondered if he was close with his brothers like she was with her sisters, or who they were? but before she could ask he asked his own question. It somewhat threw her off. It seemed the question was random and out of no where. Why did he do that? Did I say something wrong? She looked down to her paws again. "Oh, umm well, the usual stuff actually. I have patrolled the borders... and umm I know about hunting and fighting." She wasn't that great at them yet, but she was getting there and that was important. She looked to Berrypaw, "What about you?"

[Anya]

Berrypaw's tail tip twitched and he flicked his ears. "Brokenwing showed me the territory and well, to be honest I prefer combat training. Hunting's just not my thing, it probably worries her sometimes that I can't manage to catch anything on my first ten tries." he shrugged, averting his gaze so if she looked up he wouldn't make his previous dodge of her comments so obvious.

"So," he cleared his throat. "what else do you like?" he asked.

[Icestorm]

Heatherpaw listened to him intently. Ten tries?, I had to have heard that wrong. How is he suppose to help feed the clan? She shook her ears, clearing her thoughts. She convinced herself she was overthinking it. "Well, I actually like hunting. Umm, I think I'm pretty good at it too." Hunting was something that required time and thought, both of which she loved. She looked to him as he asked her what else she liked. "Don't laugh. but well, I like to umm... to go running." She loved to run through the trees, with no reason or destination.

[Anya]

“Now why would I laugh?” he smiled warmly, “I like to go out for runs from time to time as well.” True. He ran to clear his head sometimes.

“I like racing beneath the Willow Tree, and then climbing its branches.” He admitted, ears growing slightly hot in embarrassment. “I think it’s-“ he cut himself off quickly, realizing that he was about to reveal something personal.

No Berrypaw! You furball! She’ll think you’re weird if you tell her it’s because you think it’s pretty.

“Umm…because it’s great exercise!” he covered up quickly. That’s all he ever seems to do now.

Heatherpaw looked to him skeptically. Why? Oh because just running seemed silly to some of the other apprentices and warriors. Her ears perked as he said he liked to run too. She looked to him with a smile, listening. He had her attention now. Climbing? "Oh, well I'm uh not very good at climbing," her smiled fading slightly. She was never really able to get her claws in the bark and pull herself up. Wait he only does it for exercise? Where is the enjoyment in that? I guess if he does it to train... her thoughts trailed off.
