Hello, new/potential member of AWRP! In this tutorial, I'll show you the ropes of creating a character. This tutorial will include how to get to the application, how to copy it, where to post it, and two example applications: one of an acceptable application and one of an unacceptable application.
Step 1: The first step is to locate the Pending Applications board. It's in the second category, titled "Character Management".
Step 2: Once you've found the Pending Applications board and have opened it, scroll down and read all of the information threads that are boxed. Yes, I know, it's a lot of reading, but guess what? Roleplaying requires reading other members' posts, anyway. These posts are supposed to be helpful to you, and they can't be helpful if you don't read them. We've put a lot of time into them.
Mind you, we don't expect you to read all of the names of cats on AWRP, but at least read the information above the list part to figure out how to quickly find if a name has been used or not.
Please keep in mind that we suggest you read those threads before you sign up so you don't have to get into silly arguments with us about what's allowed and what's not allowed. If you have suggestions regarding our rules, please feel free to let us know, but we don't want you to ragequit because you can't use your favorite character's name.
Step 3: Locate our character application, then click on it.
Step 4: Copy the application.
Step 5: Select the Clan (or non-Clan group) where you want your character to be. If you want information on the Clans, please read their roleplaying boards. There is also some information on this FAQ, and you're free to ask on the chatbox.
Step 6: Go to one of the sub-boards of the group, depending on which gender your character is.
Step 7: Find the "Create Thread" button and click it.
Step 8: Get a feel for the process of creating a thread if you're new to ProBoards.
Step 9: Paste in the application code and begin filling it out according to the instructions in it. When you're done, post it and wait patiently. Please do not ask staff to check your application. We will get to it when we have a chance, we're not ignoring you, we can see that you posted it, and you asking won't make us go any faster.
Now you're done! If you're asked to fix something, simply edit your original post with the appropriate fixes, then post again when you've finished.
When you need to fix an application, DO the following:
-Read EVERYTHING that the staff member posts. If you miss something, you'll have to go back in and fix it again, then the staff member will have to check it again, and it's a big hassle for everyone involved.
-Be kind. We don't need you bitching about how you can't use the prefix "Obsidian". The staff don't care that it's your favorite prefix. They just need you to follow the rules. The staff aren't paid or anything, they're doing this because they enjoy it and want to help AWRP more, so don't be rude to them. They're people, too.
If you think a staff member has made a mistake, please feel free to contact them or me about it in a mature manner.
When you need to fix an application, DO NOT do the following:
-Post saying you'll fix it. If you post after a staff member requests fixes, we'll think you've finished when you're just saying you'll fix it, which effectively wastes our time.
-Make a new thread for the fixed application. This is just a waste of space and makes it look like you haven't had to fix the application before. It also means more work for us because we'll have to move your old thread.
-Make a new post with the fixed content. EDIT your original post, THEN post saying "I've finished fixing the application!" or something along those lines.
Now, here is an example of an acceptable application:
This is an example of an unacceptable application:
Chatango Account Creation Tutorial
The following tutorial was created by Splash.
Many new members have trouble with the Chatango c-box at the bottom of the screen. This step-by-step guide will teach you how to make a Chatango account so you don't have to make a new name every time you refresh a page.
PLEASE NOTE: If you're a mobile user, you can scroll down to the very bottom of any page and hit "Desktop Version" in order to then click on the chatbox and view it.
So, for the chatbox, you see this guy, right?
Now, you'll want to click this button.
Then, this should pop up:
Now, you don't want to use a temporary name as that makes it all break-why. You want to go and make yourself a chatango account. So fill out the boxes, then click 'Sign up'.
This will come up. Fill it out.
Now, you can just click done. You can, if you want, do the other stuff, but you don't need to.
Now you're ready to use the chatango!
Tagging Tutorial
This tutorial was created by Echo
You use tagging when you want someone to know that you have done something, for example, if you made a private thread with that person. Tagging is very helpful because it makes finding threads easier. Instead of having to dig through a bunch of threads, you are immediately directed to that specific thread.
Tagging basically works like this: @(insert username here) For example, if I were tagging myself I would do Echo
Here is what it looks like when you haven't quite posted the thread yet:
Now here is what it looks like after the post:
As you can see, when a name is tagged the color is different. This lets you know the tag worked. You can also see that the finished result is different from what was originally typed. That is because you can't just type the display name, you have to type the name that person registered with (with the exception of Mid since she is called "admin")
Red circle shows the name I registered with. The blue shows my display name. (If you wanna change your display name then press edit profile and then press personal and it will be at the top)
Now you have the basics! Yay! but there is a trick! If you don't want to have to go to someones profile to see what their username is, do this:
(I had to draw the cursor, so sorry it is messy)
You roll your cursor over their name in a thread and their username appears! MAGIC!
Roleplay Tutorial
This tutorial was created by @goldenbird
Hooray, your cat was "-accepted!". Now what do you do, you might ask? Well, Rp of course!
"but Golden, where do I Rp, and how," you are asking? Don't worry, I will help you!
Step 1: Go to the board your clan is in. Note that there are two boards: One for camp, one for territory. Let's say I made a Sunsetclan cat, I can choose to either RP in the camp or the territory in Sunsetclan. If I played a kit, the camp is more likely, as it contains the nursery and kits are not supposed to leave camp. I mean, well they could, but then my kit might be in trouble! If I play a warrior and want to go on a patrol, the territory is the likely place for this. Click either board, depending on what you want to do.

Now, you are inside the territory or the camp, depending on which one you clicked. As you can see, there are boards inside here for specific places. For the camp, you can Rp in the clearing, the nursery, the elder's den, the leader's den… etc. If your cat is not going to stay in one area throughout the thread, then It would probably make more sense to make a thread below these boards instead of inside them, so that people do not become confused.

If you are in the territory, you can either make a thread below the boards and choose where you go, or choose one of the landmarks. There are descriptions of each landmark telling you what it is. Why not start an Rp thread there, and see who joins in?
Step 2: So you know where you are going to Rp. Now all that you need to do is make the actual thread, or jump into an existing one. We'll start with joining first. Make sure that if you want to join someone else's RP thread, you only join the ones that have (OPEN) in the title. This means that the thread is open to anyone to join. If there is not an (Open) listed or if the thread is marked with only a name ex (Goldenbird), this means that the thread is private and only for the players that are listed. Find an open thread, and click it.

Step 3: Now you can read what the other person wrote. He or she has made their cat do something, set up a setting, or a plot, or is possibly just waiting for more interaction. Perhaps someone else has already replied with their cat or cats. Never fear, you can still jump in! In fact, the larger amount of cats in a thread, the more interesting it tends to turn out. Make sure you've read everything that was posted, so that you don't miss an interaction and so you know what is happening in the thread. Now that you are ready to jump in with you cat, click "Reply".

Oh look, the box is back again! Hello empty box! By now you probably know what to do: type your reply in this box and click "create reply", similar to how you made your application.

***A few notes to keep in mind that are stated already in the rules: make sure you are not controlling someone else's cat, such as attacking them or physically touching them without permission, or causing them to do things. Instead of say, saying "Redleaf hit Bluestar with her paw", say "Redleaf TRIED to hit Bluestar with her paw," or "Redleaf swatted out a paw, aiming to hit Bluestar in the face". This allows the Rper to decide whether or not you actually hit them. I know what you may be thinking: "but Golden, they will probably never let me hit their cat and it's not fair and I want to hit their cat in the face and take them by surprise!" Well, actually, this is where you will be surprised: most Rpers are willing to let things like this happen just to make the Rp more interesting! I for one, enjoy when given the opportunity to choose whether my cat gets owned by someone else's or surprised. And if they don't, well, just move on, there are still plenty of opportunities for interesting role-play!
***Another note: Make sure that your cat is not a "mind reader". This should speak for itself, but we have had a few issues on here where cats somehow just magically know what other cats are thinking, which is not allowed on AWRP. Unless of course, the Rper of the other cat is ok with it! When in doubt, ask for permission before Rping!
Step 4: "Ok, ok, so I know how to jump into an Rp thread, but what if I want to start an rp thread instead?" Good question, and its fairly simple! Just as before, find the place you want to rp in. Let's say we want to RP in the Sunsetclan nursery. Click Sunsetclan Camp > Nursery, and then just like when you created your app, click "Create thread" at the top right corner of the board. Now that magical little blank box pops up and you can type your post! Up in the top though, there is that little bar that says "subject". Here you will create a title for your thread. It can be anything you want! but, you will need to decide whether you want to Rp with someone in specific, such as a single member on our site, or if you will leave your thread to be replied to by anyone who is interested. If you want to just Rp with a specific player, after the title type parenthesis, with their member name inside. Ie: "A Hunt (Goldenbird)". This tells them that you only want to Rp with them alone. If you don't care who Rps with you, type "(Open)" instead, which will allow anyone to reply.
