I am a red streak.
I am a flame.
That's all the copper tom was. A little tiny bundle of red streaking through the forest. He was out! Without permission of course, but out nonetheless! And what did it matter? No one was going to catch him. No one was going to tell him to go back to the nursery. Plus, he'd love to see them try. The young kit was nearing his apprentice age, and his paws were growing restless with each passing day. He couldn't wait to join his massive family on the path of being warriors. He was ready for it! He wanted to be an apprentice now. Birds squawked in alarm as he passed by a dying log, and wiggled underneath dying plants.
Leaves crunched underneath paws and he couldn't wait to reach his destination. His mother, Aspenpool, had brought him and his littermates here during Greenleaf. The Tadpool place was a favorite for mother's to bring their kits to explore because they were so shallow that kit's couldn't really drown themselves unless they were incredibly dense in the skull. His friend, Wildpaw, had told him to come in Leaf-fall because the Tadpole's would have legs by then and would've doubled in size. Sunkit needed to see slimy things with legs. Skidding to a stop Sunkit reached his destination. The sun glistened over the tops of the pools, bouncing off each one and sending little rainbow's across the rock that encircled them. Red paws skittered across them in a random fashion, his plumed tail flying after him. A splash caught his attention and he his large ears, white inside, flickered towards it. Squealing he rushed after the sound and pounced into the water. Ingoring the cold seeping into his belly fur Sunkit searching for the source of the sound but came up short when he felt something wiggle underneath his toes.
"Ew!"
Leaping high into the air he scrambled backwards and stood staring wide eyed into the pool. A tadpole flailed underneath the waters before darting into highspeed around it's small habitat. Sunkit hunkered himself down to watch. True to her word, light chocolate brown eyes captured the tiny legs that stuck awkwardly from the creature. White whiskers twitching in delight he moved to each pool, counting how many each pool had. He couldn't wait to tell her about his adventure's... when he could find her. Thinking back through the days he realized the tabby apprentice hadn't visited the nursery in awhile. Disappointment had plagued him for a few days, knowing that it was unlike Wildpaw to not visit him and bring exciting things with him. Pushing the thoughts from his mind he returned his attention to the largest pool.
