Brownstep had found an apprentice. She hooked him out of his normal dreams with a flick of her tail. "Hello, kit." she said with a bored expression on her face. She studied him, stalking around him in a circle. "You'll do," she decided, sitting down in front of him, her tail waving slowly, her bored stature still there.

Spiderpaw looked around. What was this place? It was so... creepy and horrible. And who was this cat? She was so odd looking. Her face and expression were so dull. "Who are you? And where am I?" Spiderpaw mewed with fear. This was terrifying.

"Relax," she said dully, "I'm here to help you." Her face still straight, she continued, "My name is Brownstep. I will be your mentor while you are training in the Dark Forest. The Clans betrayed me, and I need your help to ensure justice." her voice and face and whole body was monotone.

OOC: So what is his motive? Does he have a rival or bad parents or what?

OOC: So he is just rather lonely. Also, since his father (I think it was his father) was a rouge. He thinks StarClan doesn't want him to be a warrior. And he thinks they show this by sending a badger to kill his mentor.

Spiderpaw tensed and hissed, "Why would I help you? The clans are my home!" Who was this... this Brownstep? He had never heard of her! And he had never heard of the Dark Forest!

OOC: He might be a little stubborn at first.

The dead she cat quickly sorted out her thoughts. "You're not only helping me, you're helping yourself. Who do you think sent that badger?" she stared at Spiderpaw through half lidded eyes. "StarClan. And why did they do that? So you won't become a warrior, obviously." Her brown tail rippled lazily. "I can help you become a warrior. I can help you become the best warrior of them all. And in turn, you can help me."

Spiderpaw couldn't say anything. What was this crazy she-cat saying. Of course StarClan wanted him to be a warrior! He was part of MidnightClan! That's not true, a little voice in his head nagged, you aren't a clan cat. You are part rouge, maybe that's enough. 

"How can you help me?!? You're just some crazy old she cat!" He didn't believe it though. Maybe what she said was true? Maybe StarClan didn't care for him. Why else would his mentor get killed? His mentor was good enough to stay alive! His mentor was awesome! His mentor was great! Brownstep was right. Inside Spiderpaw knew it was true, but he need to know more.

Again Brownstep went through her thoughts. "You are part rouge," she said, "and you know how much the Clans hate rouges." She got up and paced around him again. "It's your choice. Help someone who is trying to help you, or help someone who hates you just because you're part rouge."

SPiderpaw couldn't say anything. His fur lay flat. "You could help me? How?" The accusing tone of his voice was gone, now it was just full of wonder. Maybe this cat was right! If he fought for the Dark Forest maybe everything would be correct in life. Maybe he could train with other apprentices in the Dark Forest! Maybe they would be friends!
