A little of peace for a shy heart (Heatherpaw, but Open)

(OOC: @heatherpaw I really need to get Marigoldpaw some friends, and I thought she and Icepaw could get along so I hope you don't mind.)

Maybe it was the cold breeze, but that day had been uncomfortable for Marigoldpaw. Everytime she had tried to get into a conversation with another cat, she always ended up doing or saying something awkward and the conversation came to an end. Even after living with the clan for so long, since she was a kit, she still felt like an outsider.

Maybe that was what she really was, she thought bitterly.

Realizing that other cats could be watching, she tried to fake a smile. It would be a sign of weakness if the clan knew she was upset over such a useless thing.

She sat on a soft patch of grass, her bright green eyes looking to the sky, wondering what to do next.

Icepaw stepped out of the apprentice's den and stretched his legs. He laid down in the clearing, but a little farther away from everyone else. He looked around curiously while considering going hunting. He examined the cats of the clan carefully and then his eyes stumbled across a she-cat that was sitting alone. Immediately, he noticed her smile. He tended to notice more things than other cats, and he could tell that she wasn't very happy. Shyly, he walked over to her.

"What's wrong?"

The question of the white cat caught her off-guard. He stared at him, wondering how much had he seen before she tried to smile.

"There's nothing wrong"-She meowed, smiling more gently. Of course, there was nothing wrong at all. Nothing a clanmate had to worry about.

"Clanmates aren't the same for me"

She tried to send that memory away, no matter how true it was. She instead decided to try and talk with this other apprentice.

"You...You are Icepaw, right?"-Marigoldpaw asked, remembering him from some other conversation.

I don't believe you... Icepaw thought, not daring to say it out loud. but the she-cat did smile at him, a smile that seemed real compared to her other. He sat down, however, not very close to her. I'll not bother her about it anymore... Unless she decides to tell me first, of course. He simply nodded when she got his name right. 

"You're Marigoldpaw?" he asked, growing hot. He didn't like having to ask other cats names, but he wasn't sure.

She nodded. "Yeah, that's my name!"-She purred-"My mother said that she choose that name because marigolds are healing flowers..."

He green eyes shone. She decided to ask him a question, now that the conversation was going on a path she was comfortable with. "I hope that my warrior name will be something she would had been proud of. Aren't you excited to know what full name you will end up with, too?"

Would have been proud of? Is her mother dead? Icepaw asked himself, but didn't want to ask the she-cat. "Maybe..." he mewed. I hope my mom will stop babying me when I'm a warrior... he thought, his tail flickering softly in annoyance, but not because of Marigoldpaw. His mother always looked after him when she realized he didn't like talking to the other cats and didn't want to play with them. 

In all honesty, he was scared to become a warrior. It meant more responsibility, and maybe even an apprentice one day.

Marigoldpaw saw Icepaw's tail flickering and stopped. Maybe she had spoke too much.

"...I'm sorry"-She murmured quietly, believing she had annoyed him. Just to make sure, she decided to ask. She didn't liked the silence of that moment, so she continued speaking. "You look annoyed...I apologize if it was for something I said..."

Logpaw flicked his tail and padded out of the apprentices' den, looking for something to do. "Hi Marigoldpaw, Icepaw!" he exclaimed happily, "what are you two up to?" Then, he saw that silence, and he flattened his ears. "Oh," he said, "sorry if I bothered you!" Nervously, he looked from one she-cat to the other.

"Oh, no! It wasn't you!" Icepaw mewed, his fur growing hot. He was just about to explain to her why he was irritated, but then another apprentice came over. Suddenly, he felt very embarrassed and uncomfortable; he didn't like being around more than one cat, especially if he didn't know them well.

Marigoldpaw felt reassured. "Oh..."-She smiled, happy that it hadn't been her fault-"but...Why were you annoyed? Maybe I could help..."

She stared at the newcomer, she wasn't sure she had seen him before. "Hello"-She mewed-"My name is Marigoldpaw and he is Icepaw". She glanced at the white tom, and noticed that he was uncomfortable. She wasn't sure if it was because of the other apprentice or his annoyance from earlier. "There's something wrong?"

"No, there's nothing wrong," Icepaw mewed, not wanting to tell her that he hated being around a small group of cats, even if there was just three cats. 

"I was annoyed because my mom doesn't think I'm ready to become a warrior. She treats me like I'm still a kit just because I don't like being around other cats that much..." he mewed, his voice trembling slightly.

Marigoldpaw smiled gently. "Oh...Don't worry about that. I'm sure you will be a great warrior"

She stared at him, her green eyes looking into his blue ones. "You at least belong to this clan, you were born here. I can't say the same. On my ceremony, all Pebblestar will probably remember about me is that I'm that one kit the clan took in because she didn't had anywhere else to go. What kind of full name can you get from that?"

She purred. "I'm sure your name will be great, by the way. Maybe Icefur for your white pelt, or Iceheart for your kindness...No wait, that last one doesn't sound right"-She laughed.

"Thank you," Icepaw mewed, though he wasn't sure. but he probably wasn't going to be a warrior in a long time, so he tried to forget about it.

"Maybe Pebblestar will think of you as a complete Talonclan cat if you do something to impress her," he suggested. "but I still think your warrior name will be great."

Maybe Iceheart would fit me, he thought and he was only half joking. but he couldn't help to smile.

Marigoldpaw thought about what he had say for a second. Something to impress her? What could that be? She wasn't really that good at anything, except...

"...Icepaw, I have an idea"-She mewed, her green eyes shining-"We should go hunting one day and bring something cool! I'm sure your mother would also realize that you are a warrior already with that."

Icepaw's eyes brightened at the idea. It would most likely help both of them, so why wouldn't he agree?

"That sounds like a great idea!" he mewed and grinned. "but when will we do it?" he asked. He had a lot of free time. It's not like he had friends to hang out with.
