Yellow eyes stared back at her. 
The pond rippled once as a single tear hit the surface, and yet nothing but a straight face looked forward. 
Look deep into those eyes though. Stare deep into the depths of the reflection, look past the surface.

Robinfeather was hurting. 

Since she was younger she had been fighting for who she was, fighting to make a name for herself, fighting to be someone. Finally she found that self-security and then it was just simply stripped away from her.
Her confidence in who she was- gone. 

She was beginning to understand why he left 5 seasons ago.

"I don't believe in the futile attempts to uphold a clan system." 

It was beginning to make sense.

"I don't believe in being stripped of your identity and being forced to be someone you're not. Being forced to like one out of a handful of cats. I don't believe in these boundaries. We all want the same thing, and yet we fight. It's stupid and I'm done with it."

And just like that he was gone. 
All on the day of his warrior ceremony. No one had seen him since, but the temptation to find him was arising.

[Fiction]

Shadowpad needed to think. He just didn't know where he was going in life. He needed a purpose. Wait, he had a purpose. Protecting his Clan. but somehow, he knew, it wasn't enough. He needed something else. He needed to think. So, Shadowpad went to the most peaceful place he knew. The Pond of Truce.

The pure black tom spotted the sacred pool in the distance. 'I'll just lay down next to it, and think for a bit,' he thought to himself, nearing the Pool. Suddenly, a cat came into veiw, looking at her reflection in the pond. Shadowpad started, bright green eyes widening a bit. Why would anyone be at the Pool of Truce at this time? Then he remembered, HE was going to the pool of truce. "Huh," he said quietly. Maybe the she cat needed to think too.

When he got closer, Shadowpad recognized her as Robinfeather, WhisperClan's previous medicine cat. His face softened (if that was possible) and he padded closer to the she cat. "Are you alright?" he asked.

Robinfeather's thoughts had been so clouded, and her senses didn't have their usual acuteness to them. Instead of picking up the scent, she wasn't even remotely aware of him until he was within tail- lengths of her. Her head didn't lift, her eyes didn't waver. They were trained on the reflections depicted in the pool before her. 

'Am I alright? Well Starclan just stripped me of my own identity and I'm one of the biggest jokes in the clan once again, but yes I'm doing just grand!'

That's what she would've said, but she wasn't one big on words, especially when it came to her own feelings. 
Feelings were useless, all they did was lead to connections and ties, and all that did was lead to distractions. There was no room for distractions in such a heartless, cruel, and unforgiving world. There was no room for anything but your 100% effort if you wanted to make it.
That was her outlook, so rather then open up her emotions like a tin can she plastered on a sickeningly sarcastic smile, "Oh just grand."

Shadowpad made a face that was 30% grimacing and 70% concerned. "You're...Robinfeather, right?" he asked, deciding not to talk about her emotional well being. After her answering, he sat down next to her. He honestly couldn't think of anything to say. "Weird meeting someone else at the Pond of Truce this type of day huh?" he asked, giving a short, light laugh.

It was still weird to her that cats from other clans could so easily recognize her. Clan leaders, deputies, and Medicine Cats. They were somehow always pinpointed out of crowds. That was understandable considering for the most part they were grouped together at gatherings- if you knew one it seemed you eventually knew them all.

That wasn't a good thing.

It meant it wasn't just her clan's business that she had dropped down as Medicine Cat. It meant everyone else knew- just not specifics. 
"Yes, that would be me. And you are?"
Robinfeather looked at the tom who now sat next to her. He wasn't very big, but she herself was very small, so he still loomed above her. Her yellow eyes stared into his green ones meeting him look for look.
At first her own were empty, but then they filled with their usual cold appear as well as something else, perhaps a bit of her old confidence so she didn't seem so vulnerable in front of this stranger?

"What brings you here?"

"My name is Shadowpad. Its a pleasure meeting you." he said, daring a smile. This she cat just needed cheering up.

"I...uh...I just needed to think. About life. And stuff," he wasn't sure he was really comfortable telling a pretty-much-stranger about his problems.

"What brings you here?" he asked, turning his head and peering into the pond. Right before answer, he snapped his head back up. Not looking at her probably seemed like he was uninterested, and that was very often misinterpreted as rude.

"To think, huh?" Robinfeather looked down at her paws, and closed her eyes in a rustic chuckle, "Ain't that the reason we all come out here now." It was the closest thing anyone could get to freedom. There were no ties of loyalty in this spot, you belonged to all the clans in that moment. Everyone was united.

The former medicine cat looked back at Shadowpad, having just given him her indirect answer to his simple question. "So how is Nightpoppy and her apprentice, Copperpaw is it, doing?"

Even though her ties to the other medicine cats had been cut off, and even though she never conversed with them much, they still held a spot in her heart, as rare as that is. There were times where they had helped her and vice versa so out of courtesy she found herself wondering about her two former companions.  

[Fiction]

"They're doing well, and Copperpaw has plenty of potential. To be honest I haven't seen either of them lately. You know me, healthy and strong all the time. Well actually you don't. but now you do!" Shadowpad felt his pelt warm a bit. He probably sounded like a big idiot. There was a pause in the conversation. Shadowpad noticed the bitterness in Robinfeather's eyes. What could have made her such a grump? The black tom had no clue. "Do-do you need help with anything? Like is there anything I can do? You just seem a bit..." Unlikable his mind said, but he quickly pushed it away. "A bit upset about something."

Robinfeather nodded her head approvingly, this brief gesture enough to show she was pleased her old comrades were doing alright. And for a moment a rough purr rumbled in her throat. It was silent and almost unnoticeable, but it was one of amusement.
'That I do know now.'
This cat wasn't too bad for an outsider, in fact she hadn't really taken a liking to anyone much inside her own borders. There were the ones she could tolerate, and the one's she could advise, but she never had much of a friend, or someone who could amuse her. Perhaps this was the reason she even considered speaking her next words.

For once the small she-cat spoke her mind, "Upset may not be the precise word, rather simply bothered of being removed of my identity without probable cause." Of course though she couldn't be straight forward with her answer, and spoke a bit in a riddle. She wanted to test this Shadowpad. If he had any sort of sense in his brain and was worth her time perhaps he would understand.

It was a test.

[Fiction]

"O-oh," he said, staring hard at the water, trying to figure out what her words meant. Realization flashed across his face as he looked back at Robinfeather. "You mean you're bothered that you've been removed as a medicine cat." He peered curiously at the former medicine cat. She was interesting, to say the least. Of course, anyone would be upset at that, even him. Being stripped of your duties by StarClan and having no idea why.

He passed. 

Robinfeather sighed, unknowingly, her eyes shifting down to the pond. It sat at a stand still and reflected the sky above, in all it's falling daylight, and soon the stars would be shining, seeming to stare right back at her from where she sat. The same cats who put her in this situation would be staring down at her.
Oh what she would give to have a wordy conversation them. Truth is, no matter how cold and distant she acted, no matter how much she dreaded her job at times, she had begun to love it, and now she wanted it back. 

Deep within the yellow depths of her eyes, hurt swam. She had hidden it for so long. She had hidden everything for so long.
Being a Medicine cat was supposed to make me different. It was supposed to show them I was good for something.
but then I up and screwed that up.. maybe they were right.
Her eyes clenched shut so Shadowpad hopefully couldn't read her as easily as she believed would be possible, "Truth be told, yes..."

[Fiction]

There was a flash of longing in Robinfeather's eyes before she squeezed them shut, but Shadowpad recognized it. He had seen it in kits, looking at the apprentices. He had seen it in apprentices, looking at warriors. He had seen it in warriors, looking at the leader. All wanting for something.

The black tom scooted a bit closer, trying to comfort her. "Hey," he said softly. "Its gonna be alright."

His bright green eyes grew determined. He was going to cheer this upset she cat up. He stood. "Meet me here, in three sunrises. Over by that tree." he pointed to a large beech tree a ways from the pond with his tail. "Mark my words Robinfeather," he said, mostly serious, but teasing a little, "I'm going to make you happy again." and he turned at started towards StormClan. He looked back at Robinfeather. "Three sunrises, okay?"

Robinfeather was strange in her behaviors to say the least. 
While she was deeply bothered for reasons she couldn't quite explain, something bubbled up inside her upon being comforted. It was perhaps a mixture of a stubborn defense, but then there was also gratitude. 
No one had really ever cared for her.. no one had ever been given the chance to care for her. 

Perhaps in an attempt to save the last sliver of self confidence Robinfeather gave a sarcastic laugh before opening her eyes and looking towards the black cat beside her, "Alright. Three sunrises it is, for I'm rather interested to figure out how you could make me something I never have truly been." That wasn't exactly true though. Through the annoyance and frustration, she had grown happy healing. It was something that she believed couldn't be replaced.
