It had been a week.
She had not come home, not once.
On the first day, Briarclaw did not notice. She had been busy with patrols and setting everything up for Pebblestar's return to the nursery.
On the second day, Briarclaw had gone to give Pebblestar a small bird for lunch, but could not find her. She figured that she had poor timing and that the leader had gone out for a walk.
On the third day, Briarclaw took no notes.
It was not until the sixth day that some cat approached the deputy and asked her where Pebblestar was. When Briarclaw explained that she had not seen her that day, the cat said that Pebblestar was nowhere to be found, and that cats were starting to worry.
And that's what Briarclaw freaked out. She slipped into her nest and was not to be disturbed for the rest of the day, as she slept and decided on what she needed to do.
And on this day, the seventh day, Briarclaw padded wearily out of the warriors' den. She stood where Pebblestar usually made announcements and called out to her Clan.
"TalonClan, we have a bit of an issue. Our leader, as you probably already know, has not been seen in several days. I, personally, have not seen her for seven sunrises, but I do not know exactly when she... left nor where she went. All I know is that we must carry on as normally as possible. I will address the other leaders with this issue and ask them if they know the location of Pebblestar at the next gathering, but until then, the best we can do is wait and hope that our leader returns. If you have any problems or needs, please direct them to me. I will be increasing our border patrols, and I urge everyone to keep a lookout for Pebblestar. Are there any questions or comments that I need to deal with right now?"
She had to have left by choice, right? Maybe she was just taking a break to be at the Skyfield... right? Or Pebblestar could have been hiding out in secret to quietly care for herself while she was expecting kits, yes? Yes. Right. Pebblestar was a-okay. Briarclaw forced herself to calm down and prepared for questions and comments from her Clanmates.
