Uh oh, where can I go? Everybody's watching me boulderfrost;; LazyKitt |
morning crept over the horizon and the small she-cat sat alone, watching the sky change from it's murky black to a dull maroon hue. it was a rather quiet night, besides the persistent hum of twigpaw's uncontrollable shaking and just fretting about ordeals that were left inside and before she knew it the clock ticked into a new day. the crickets stopped their insistent chirping, but it wasn't early enough to hear the birds melodies and it finally dawned on the small she-cat that her pelt was wet from thinking and fretting about the past and the future.
the previous day had the she-cat overwhelmed with constant thoughts that nagged her away from every day tasks even when she was in the middle of doing them. ever since she became an apprentice, the other newly apprenticed still nagged on her, telling her she didn't deserve what she had because she didn't even have clan blood in her. she felt hurt and became acutely aware of the stares given to her whenever a hurt clanmate came in. yeah, they didn't always have the same malice in them as others, but at times she felt like all of them still had the same meaning obvious or not. when her tasks were over and she retreated into the den, she felt eyes on the back of her head like a hawk and immediately she let out a "gah," and the other apprentices rolled their eyes.
it was hard, she wanted the best for the other people around her but at the same time they didn't want her around. she knew that she would make it harder for them to sleep with her constant twitching and her nightmares at night so she quickly became accustom to not sleeping. when she was a kit, she had nightmares that kept her up at night, so she never really got sleep in general, now she just made her own choice of keeping herself up because of the people around her. the small she-cat laid down and she heard one thing that made her run, "the elders said that her parents didn't make it," one muttered and the other one seemed to nod in agreement, "yeah but it didn't give her the right to be accepted in here." before she knew it, her paws made way to the darkest part of the forest with her fear of being hurt left in the back of her mind.
it was her parents that she wanted to forget, they weren't even brought back. it was like they never were really there and sometimes, it felt like she just dreamt them up just to give a reason on why she was afraid of the forest, but she really knew that the tragedy happened right before her eyes. her parents always told her to be aware of her surroundings, and they seemed so sure whenever they were ahead of her, that she knew she was safe and then in a blink of an eye she watched the two figures of her life vanish.
it had been a rather uneventful day when it happened, her parents had walked in front of arabica for the longest time, just chattering mindlessly, stopping every now and again when they heard leaves rustle in the wind. the young kit trotted along, freezing at the slightest noise and then running forward to get closer to her protectors so she wouldn't get hurt. they had passed through the darkest part of the forest and were now on their way to find a place to sleep for the night. "keep away from the ledge, arabica, it's dangerous," her father warned with a flick of his tail and she immediately did as told, her tail frizzing whenever she took one pawstep too close. it felt like the time drew on for hours in the small kits head, but in reality it had only passed ten minutes before she heard the loudest grumbling noise come from the ground. it came as a complete shock and she did exactly what her parents told her to do, hide until they say it's safe to come out. the tawny kit found herself a hidden brush, eyes closed and her body shook until she found herself worn out. the minutes passed and she had only heard silence, no voice telling her it was okay to come out so she just waited.
arabica couldn't help but have the deep aching hole in her mind that told her something was very, very wrong and she walked out of her hiding spot to see that there was a missing part of the ground. the shaking kitten looked down the fallen path and saw a familiar tail sticking out of the rubble. oh silly mommy, she is hiding too but forgot to hide her tail. the fear vanished as she bounded down the hill to go meet up with her, "momma! you can stop hiding now, everything's okay!" her little paw batted at her moms limp tail and when she got no response, her batting became more frantic, "momma? momma, wake up! it's me, arabica!" of course she felt the anxiety move straight through her veins and her little body tried to pull her mom out from the dirt and when she couldn't get any further, she began to wail. arabica walked forward to see her fathers paw out of the rubble and she knew it wasn't right. "daddy! please wake up!"
the salty tears rolled over her fur as she headbutted the paw to get anything, any sign of movement but there was nothing. her small little body ached from shivering, she was hungry, and now she was alone and it had reached its limit and gave into her heavy eyelids. arabica didn't have a dream, it was all dark and when she woke up she was greeted by hushed whispers and unknown eyes and they quickly took her into an unknown place, but she had no strength to protest. she had accepted her fate, these were the cats that killed her mothers parents and she was next.
the jittery soul froze as she heard the sound of paw-steps on the sand, being drawn from her thoughts and memories and into a world that wasn't safe. it was only then did she realize that she had stayed up all night, forgetting that her first day of training was the next day.
