[Flight of the Thunderbird]

Wolfkit hated the other kits. Especially that brown tabby that kept calling him a dirtyblood and kept chasing him out of the den. The only kits he trusted were his brother and sister, Stumpykit and Shrewkit, but with no mother to care for them, and no tail, they were also mercilessly teased and beat up. Wolfkit was always glad he had a tail. It made him more confident and strong. Well, maybe a little too confident. Wolf kit well knew how to fight, just that if he beat up the other kits, their mother would hate them, and a cat never wants much enemies.
Wolfkit sighed and picked himself up from where that mean brown tabby left him. He looked around for Stumpykit. Maybe they could have dome fun.
Wolfkit spotted Stumpykit shaking herself off by a hedge. It was dark, and almost evening. As Wolf kit gazed at the moon and called out to Stumpykit, an idea struck him.
"Hey," he mewled as Stumpykit padded over, "Stumpykit, jump to the moon with me."

The little kit had scampered away from the nursery a little while ago.  Sometimes the kits in there were nice and played nice, but sometimes they said things that really got to her feeling.  They always made sure she knew she had no tail, and sometimes she wouldn't care and sometimes she would.  Only one of her siblings did have a tail and she was just a little jealous.  Don't get her wrong, she doesn't might just having a fluffy little butt, but sometimes she thought a tail could be cool.  It was like an extra thing that just hung off your rump.  Anyways, she had been poking around the camp, but staying near the nursery, when she heard her brothers voice call her.  It was Wolfkit, the one with the tail.  

Her fluffy fur puffed up excitedly as he ask her to jump to the moon with him.  Stumpykit looked up at the big white light in the sky and then back down at her brother, "but it seems so far!"  She squinted her big eyes, thinking while she looked at him.   She always really like her brother, well both brothers.  but Wolfkit seemed to come up with the coolest and funest ideas!  "Maybe if we can climb up high somewhere... we can reach it!"  Her little form hopped as her voice rose a little.  This would be fun!

Wolfkit looked around for a large tree. Suddenly, he spotted one, a giant birch, just past the camp entrance. Wolfkit gasped. "Look Stumpykit! A tree! That large birch over there! Let's go!" Wolfkit knew Stumpykit wasn't good at climbing trees, but this tree had lots of nicks and gnarles, surely it would be easy to climb, even without a tail!

There was a moment when both kits were just looking around. Stumpykit looked up, down, left, and right. She saw a tree but hadn't said anything because she was sides he wouldn't be able to climb it. but, Wolfkit saw it too. She looked over there, to the tree. It didn't appeal to her, but adventure was adventure. Especially if Wolfkit said so. She would follow him anywhere. "Yea I bet that'll work!" The little she-cat did her best to sound brave. "Lets go!" 

Stumpykit started towards the big birch just outside of the camp. It looked like it might be an easy climb. It was pretty tilted and all straight up like a usual tree. "Hey Wolfkit! I think I can beat you up the tree!"  her little legs carried her towards the tree as fast as she could. Her tiny claws dug in to the bark and started to slowly scramble up. "We are gonna reach the moon!"

"I bet I can beat YOU Stumpykit! Challenge accepted! "Wolfkit squealed. Usually around other cats he was mean and brash, but around his sister and brother, he just knew to be nice and have fun. Halfway up the tree, he stopped and gazed at the moon once more. He gently whispered to Stumpykit, who miraculously didn't fall off the tree yet, "We're almost there, sis. We're really going to reach the moon." The moon seemed so big, glowing softly above them, that it really looked like they were going to reach the moon.
The two kits were so absorbed into the beautiful moon, that they didn't notice the warrior padding up behind them.

Stumpykit had already started to tire out.  She leaned in to a gnarl in the wood to rest a little before she heard Wolfkit whisper to her, saying they were almost there.  That was enough to get her going again, but not very far.  Soon, there were no more solid paw-holds and the tailless kit just remained grounded to her spot.  but, she could still see the moon so she was okay with that.  She craned her head to see her brother, who was above her a little ways.  "Wolfkit! I don't think I can go any further."  She mewed quietly, and almost sadly, "I don't think I can reach the moon."

The she-cat had just recently returned from a late night border patrol with a few other cats.  Her paws dragged, she was so tired.  but, she was also hungry so she went over to grab a mouse from the fresh-kill pile.  On her way there, she had turned around thinking she had heard something, like little kit voices.  Her eyes narrowed a bit as she scanned the area.  Surely the kits were supposed to be asleep by now.  but, that clearly wasn't true because she spotted two kits attempting to climb a tree.  Nightwhisker puffed up in alarm, they could fall!  Especially one without a tail!  

The warrior quickly padded back out of camp and to the tree, "What in Starclans name do you think you two are doin?"  The dark she-cat called up the tree before starting to climb up to retrieve them.  She first came across the little tailless she-cat, who gave a little bit of a fight by clinging on to the tree before letting go.  The warrior dropped her off at the trunk of the tree and went back up to the little tomcat that was up a little higher. She reached to grab him and pull him down from the tree.

Doebreeze had been dozing in the warrior's den, not really seeing the point of staying in the nursery now that her kits were old enough to eat freshkill. She had a busy life that she needed to get back to; it was unreasonable to think she could be in the nursery at all times just in the off chance something happened to one of her 'bundles of joy'. Still, she was slightly uneasy. Stumpykit had a tendency to follow and Wolfkit was a good brother to her, but he was still just a kit. They were kits bound to get in trouble, and that only reflected badly on her and her 'poor mothering skills'. The Bengal curled up tighter in her old nest, nose under paw. That combined with the late night patrol she had assigned herself to kept her just on the edge of sleep. She hated how worried she was about what they could be doing. If they were getting in trouble, it only meant someone would chew her ear off again and force her back into the nursery; a thing she was dreading. She just got out, damnit. She wasn't going back in so soon. So, she squeezed her eyes tighter and tried to enjoy some sleep while willing her kits to behave, just for tonight.

Wolfkit whimpered as he felt Nightwhisker take him down from the tree. but they were so close to the moon! "What do you think you're doin'?" Nightwhisker growled. "We...we were only trying to reach the moon.." Wolfkit whimpered. "Are we in trouble?" Nightwhisker seemed very suprised. "Reach the moon? Listen, young ones, the moon is very, very far away. Even if it seems close, it will always be far away. Understand? Now, I'm going to tell your mother..." Nightwhisker picked them up both by the scruff. Tell our mother? Doebreeze? Nooooooo! Wolfkit thought.
