Skyfield was quiet and vacant. It usually is, the cream-ginger warrior thought, pleased that she would have this time to herself. It was always disheartening to realize that the long journey from the clan territories, excluding TalonClan, would be almost wasted if Skyfield was already occupied. Even though it was forbidden to fight, and that this was a place of peace, Lilycloud by all means did not wish to lie next to the sparkling center and fall unconscious with a stranger next to her. She liked the familiar comfort of her own clan or nobody at all. She padded forward to meet the sparkling stone in the center of the underground field and allowed her body to relax. Immediately, she felt the hazy effects of the stone begin to take place. Her tiny paws curled beneath her and her eyes closed involuntarily. The Stormclan warrior was taken away to hunt with Starclan, and she knew at once she was in safe care.
The dream was a first-time experience in the way that, when she woke up, she had not been greeted by an open field. Instead, she was in the thicket of the forest and it was very dark; she could only make out the outlines of each massive tree as it towered over her. "Don't be afraid." A voice called out cooly. Lilycloud's crystal eyes turned and scanned the darkness but she could hardly see a thing. "I'm not afraid," she replied honestly. "Who are you?"
The ginger tabby purred in laughter. "Not your first. but I joined Stormclan during my prime, and because of that decision you are what you are now. A brave warrior. but something has been troubling you, hasn't it? I know I usually don't interfere with your dreams. but the time has come." She dipped her head and a sudden smoke-like mist seemed to engulf them both.
Lilycloud looked at her and nodded. "Yes. I....I still have trouble trusting myself. Sometimes I hardly feel like a warrior at all. I'm too...weak."
"Not weak. Kind." the Starclan she-cat said softly, her voice taking a wise and noble animosity that made Lilycloud look at her seriously. "I have done both a kind and injustice thing to you, Lilycloud. I am afraid it was time for me to intervene and do my duty as a Starclan warrior." The ginger cat's fur had fluffed out immensely, and her long, fluffy tail reached around to touch the shoulder of Lilycloud. "All will be forgiven as the kindness of clouds engulfs the silver amber."
Lilycloud tried to open her jaw, but something had wired it shut. The darkness begin to evaporate and she was left blinded by strong, sparkling light. She closed her eyes instinctively, but should have known better. When she reopened them she was left staring at the sparkling rock in the middle of Skyfield. What a strange dream. Usually they were not so…mysterious. Feeling a bit tired, she headed out and saw that the sun had risen to the middle of the sky now. How short Starclan dreams seemed, when truthfully they were much longer.
She heard of a loner that lived near Skyfield and offered an open den to friendly clan cats, but she deemed it unnecessary. She headed toward the river and began to follow it down through the vast fields, keeping her belly low and her senses wide alert.
Her dream felt almost fuzzy now. Kindness of clouds? Silver amber? Forgiveness? She felt chilled at the thought that she had just met one of her ancestors— not just an ancestor, but the very first to be introduced to StormClan. The reason she was what she was. She knew that this, then, was where her kitty pet ears had come from. Since a kit she had been told that only kitty pets get strange mutations like that; and so, it was true. Her ancestor had joined StormClan.
Keeping away from the edge of the bank, she let out an involuntary yawn and shook her head small head. Her stomach rumbled rather loudly, and she knew at once that it was time for prey.
