Curiosity killed the cat...
Adder.
The day had been long, oh so long. The she-cat had 'strolled' here from the two-legged dwellings. She knew of this clan...Sun...rise?...Sunset clan...Something Sun..It was lost to her at the moment...Although she knew of them, the golden tinted cat had never been upon their land. Adder had heard rumors have a large body of never-ending water, and, oh, how she longed to see it!
The brilliant sun was high in the deep blue sky. No clouds loomed anywhere to provide temporary comfort from its unrelenting rays. Addie slid her dry tongue across her muzzle, my, my, so thirsty...but still she put one oddly massive paw in front of the other...Desperate in her need to see...what had those other cats called it?...A sea? An ocean? Truly, she had her doubts that such a vast body of water existed.
She drew in the scents with her nostrils. Scenting for cats of this clan. These clan cats never liked to share their secrets, and she was always beyond frantic to learn them. Often, it led to her fleeing from a warrior, but she always learned more and more each time. Her nose told her she had crossed onto the clan's land...The ground under paw had turned into a hot burning sand.
Addie turned her pale yellow eyes downwards for a moment. One large paw batted the sand, sending it flying...
For a moment the tiny she-cat forgot her mission, and lost herself...Throwing hot sand this way, and that, joy radiating from her.
A small two-legged, a girl, ran past pointing and laughing at the cat, but Addie was not phased. She knew the majority of the strange creatures never meant any harm, and they often gave her scraps of their food.
Addie, tumbled, rolled, and flopped, until her striped and spotted bod' landed with a splash in the water.
Coming back to her senses, Adder jumped to her feet...A gentle, cooling wave lapped at her paws...Eyes filled with awe and wondering as she drank in the vastness of the cool blue unknown world before her..
The ocean...
It did exist...
It wasn't just an elder's tale...
A purr escaped her throat...
but Satisfaction brought it back...
Adder.
