Aspenstream splashed out of the water, padding onto the island and shaking out her light brown fur. She wrinkled her nose at the sensation of water in her ears, she had jumped a little too eagerly into the water and hadn't meant to go under. Grumbling quietly to herself she sat in a small patch of sun, shaking her head vigorously in an attempt to dispel the water. After a few moments she realized her trying was in vain she gave up, stretching her water logged limbs as she dried. 

She stood, searching for any sign of prey. Her eyes settled on a small rustle in the bush in front of her and she crept forward, stalking her prey intently. Just as she was nearing it the water vole dashed out in front of her, and Aspenstream turned to chase after it, but stumbled and toppled over. All of the head shaking she had done had made her too dizzy to move so much, and she hoisted herself back up with a huff.

The shaking of leaves distracted her, and she scented another cat nearby. Aspenstream quickly gathered herself, sitting up with her tail wrapped around her paws and praying to StarClan that they hadn't seen the fool the normally excellent hunter had just made out of herself. She licked her chest a few times before calling out "Whoever you are, you can come out now, I know you're there."

It was dark and cold. They shouldn't be there. Why were they there? Why was she . . . . Why wasn't she swimming back? Oh, Starclan, no! Mossbrook stifled a whimper as he woke, looking around with wild golden eyes while he tried to remember where he was . . . and when. Realizing he was on Sunset Island, the brown tabby warrior curled in on himself morosely. His nightmares of his sister's death, made infrequent with time, still took him back to his helpless days as apprentice when the loss was still fresh.

Finally, the tom noticed the changed angle of the sun on the leaves and sand around him. Good gracious, he'd been there for a good hour! Rising to his white paws, Mossbrook prepared to head back to the mainland when he heard some scuffing nearby. Startled by the unexpected noise, the striped and flecked tabby jumped slightly, brushing against some leaves as he did.

The voice of a fellow Sunsetclan cat reassured the tom and Mossbrook left his hiding spot sheepishly. "Sorry if I startled you," he said, brown striped tail flicking back and forth nervously. "I came out here to take a nap; didn't expect I would sleep for this long."

Aspenstream breathed a small sigh of relief, glad no cat had witnessed her stumbling. How had she not noticed him before? She blamed the salt water in her fur, smelling up everything. She batted her eyes pleasantly at the tom as she spoke. "Well, I'm sorry my bumbling around woke you up." She laughed. "I just came out here to get away from all the two-legs - the shore is just crawling with them. I'm Aspenstream, by the way. I've seen you around, but I don't think we've met."

"My name's Mossbrook," the brown tabby tom said, smiling at his fellow Sunsetclan warrior. "It's alright, you didn't wake me. Would have thanked you if you had, to be quite honest." Scuffing the ground with his white paws, Mossbrook's golden eyes dimmed as he recalled the subject of his dream. Nightmare really, even if it wasn't at night, he thought.

Shaking his head, the warrior returned his gaze to Aspenstream. "Two-legs making a lot of noise today then? It feels like a day when they'd be out on the beach in droves."
