OOC: I see this as a couple of weeks after their first date, or something like that ^^ 

The ginger-and-white tom paced, his heart pounding, musing over how he ask Cinderstep his important Question. Never had he been so scared in his life, yet excited. Anticipation gripped at him, and he was walking stiff-legged around the camp, occasionally snapping at cats who were asking too many questions. Young apprentices skittered by as he stalked past, afraid of what he was going to do. 

No, he was not going to go back to his old days, where he was disliked and feared. Only Lakepounce, his sister-friend, knew what was really going on, and as she joined another cat's patrol, she gave him a knowing look, smiled slightly, and headed out. Why do you have to leave? he thought, looking after her. I need some advice here! He gulped. Ugh, she's making it awkward. Here it goes. He took a deep breath, turned away from the camp entrance, and, amidst some curious stares, glanced around for the she-cat he wanted to see.

He'd been going over how to ask her The Question for days. Different stories chased each other around in his mind; how could he start? With a little bit of light humor? Not his thing. A reminder of a memory they shared? No, he couldn't think of anything too intimate that could relate to this. Sharing prey? No, I don't want us to be too full and lazy. He decided to ask her for a small stroll in the territory. A bit cliche, but he couldn't think of anything better. 

"Cinderstep?" he asked, seeking her out and approaching her. "Will you... will you go on a walk with me?"

CINDERSTEP

OF WHISPERCLAN

It was a beautiful day; the sun was shining, birds chirping, a beautiful blue sky. Cinderstep was working on eating a thrush that she had hunted herself; a truly delicious morsel. Yes, all seemed grand; but there was one part of Cinderstep that was not fulfilled, a hole that had opened. She hadn't met with Thrushleap for about a half moon. As she thought of him, and how busy he was, she chewed a little slower. Oh, I just want to go for a walk with him again. She brushed the ground with her tail, conjuring up a mist of dirt. We're not even really mates yet, but I have a crush on him. I don't know though, was he just saying that he liked me to make me feel better? She swallowed the last mouthful of the thrush, Just then, a familiar white and ginger tom was making his way towards her. She jumped up, "Thrushleap!" she purred. He seemed nervous, however, and asked her to go for a walk with him. "Of course, Thrushleap!"

When they were out in the forest, Cinderstep burst out in joy, "I've missed you! What did you call me out here for, Thrushleap?"

"Oh, um, heh," Thrushleap said, chuckling a bit nervously, "I thought we could just... talk. You know, since we haven't seen each other privately for a while." He shifted his paws, inwardly frustrated at himself. Why wasn't he going along with his own plan? Why was he backing out? "I've missed you too," he added earnestly, "it's really nice to do this again. Let's go somewhere... how about the border with FrostClan? We could check that, and maybe talk along the way..." he had opted for a more private place to ask his Question, and it seemed like the right spot: FrostClan no longer existed, but the border was still there. It would be a nice place to go, and he hoped no one else was there.

Padding along beside him, she listened intently to each word. He seemed slightly panicked. "I thought we could just... talk. You know, since we haven't seen each other privately for a while." She grinned. He missed her. "Of course we can talk, Thrushleap." she mewed, running her tail down his back to soothe his worry. "I'm glad to do this again, too, Thrushleap. You're always busy and I feel so lucky that you spend your time with me. Yeah, let's go to the FrostClan border, then."
They chatted all the way to the FrostClan border, which was a beautiful place. They stopped in a grove, surrounded by juniper bushes and beautiful flowers. "What do you want to say, Thrushleap?" she purred, tilting her head to the side.

"Actually, I er... came here to ask you something." Feeling somewhat lightheaded, as if he were floating, he stepped in front of Cinderstep, and looked her in the eye. Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes for a small moment to mentally prepare himself. Here goes nothing, Thrushleap. Oh, stop hesitating! She's waiting, and you're making it more awkward by the minute. For StarClan's sake. He opened his eyes, and smiled slightly. "Cinderstep... I feel so happy when I'm around you. You've made me a... different cat. Someone who has come out of his shell. Someone who feels... jovial. I'm not angry when I'm around you. And I can't be, because you pull me away from those tendrils with your... kind smile. Bright personality. Everything, really. So I want to ask you if you want to stay by my side, as equals. Cinderstep... will you be my mate?" he asked finally. It was as if a huge bubble had lifted from him, and he felt more relaxed. Have I been this nervous? This is so different from a couple moons ago. He wondered vaguely if he'd done it right, but all he cared about was her answer.

She felt something coming, but she didn't know what. Cinderstep shifted feet nervously. "Actually, er, I came here to ask you something." Thrushleap mewed. She suddenly felt a bit worried, but it did not show. Cinderstep eyed him as he stood right in front of her, looking her in the eye, deep into her soul. He took a deep breath, and opened his mouth. Cinderstep's mind raced with possibilities of what he was going to say. "Cinderstep... I feel so happy when I'm around you. You've made me a... different cat. Someone who has come out of his shell. Someone who feels... jovial. I'm not angry when I'm around you. And I can't be, because you pull me away from those tendrils with your... kind smile. Bright personality. Everything, really." Cinderstep started tearing up. She couldn't believe that she had softened him like this. She knew what was coming. 
"So I want to ask you if you want to stay by my side, as equals. Cinderstep... will you be my mate?" Fireworks exploded inside of her, rupturing the waterworks. She started crying softly. "T-Thrushleap.." she sobbed. She pushed back the tears. "Yes! I want to stay by your side for as long as I live, Thrushleap. You have lit up my world unimaginably, and I felt empty without you." she cried, resting her head around his neck. She licked his cheek and whispered in his ear, "I love you, Thrushleap."

Thrushleap felt a warmth spread throughout his body as Cinderstep laid her head on his shoulders. "I love you too, Cinderstep," he purred, and moved to twine his tail with hers. It was the happiest day of his life, even better when he'd been announced deputy. It didn't matter what rank he was, though; even if he had been a regular warrior he'd have Cinderstep, and that was it, really; she was all he needed to have a content life. "So, shall we?" he asked, bowing his head slightly, jerking it towards camp. He was excited to announce their engagement (OOC: Since they haven't, you know...), and started to walk with a spring in his step.
