Falling Leaves, Rising Ranks (Ceremonies 7-7-15)

Leaf-fall was here; lazy leaves tumbled off of trees, brown and crisp, pleasant to walk on instead of the burning soil that greenleaf brought. A light breeze  blew through the forest, carrying with it the prey-scent that was starting to dawdle.

Today, Willowbranch, LeafClan's deputy, was not hunting, but she was doing the ceremonies for Sunstar; she, and the other leaders, had left, leaving Willowbranch as the temporary leader of LeafClan. 

So, her pelt almost glistening with the amount of self-grooming she had done, she went to the place where Sunstar usually stood. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather here for a Clan meeting!" she yowled, sitting down neatly.

"Hello, everyone. You all know that Sunstar has left the Clan. Despite this, however, the ceremonies must continue.

Before this, I must announce that I am the temporary leader of LeafClan; any issues or worries you have, please bring them to me for now. I hope this is okay with all of you; I'm honoured to do this for my Clan." she announced, smiling. She twitched an ear. "Okay then, I bet you're all itching for the ceremonies."

She cleared her throat and pushed all nervousness deep inside of her.

"First off, we have the kits. Bumblekit, Eaglekit, Nightkit, Specklekit, and Stumpykit, please step forward." She searched for the kits, picking out Bumblekit first.

Bumblekit, it is finally time for you to rise to apprenticeship. I hereby name you Bumblepaw; this will be your name until you complete your training. I trust that Rivercloud will help you grow like an oak. 

Eaglekit, it is finally time for you to rise to apprenticeship. I hereby name you Eaglepaw; this will be your name until you complete your training. I trust that Nettletooth will help you grow like an oak.

Nightkit, it is finally time for you to rise to apprenticeship. I hereby name you Nightpaw; this will be your name until you complete your training. I trust that Blackscar will help you grow like an oak.

Specklekit, it is finally time for you to rise to apprenticeship. I hereby name you Specklepaw; this will be your name until you complete your training. I trust that Berryheart will help you grow like an oak.

And our last kit becoming a warrior;

Stumpykit, it is finally time for you to rise to apprenticeship. I hereby name you Stumpypaw; this will be your name until you complete your training. I trust that I will help you grow like an oak."

Willowbranch dipped her head to the new apprentices. "Congratulations, I'm sure you'll all work very hard."

"Next, we have the apprentices. Please step forward, Rowanpaw, Foxpaw, Kinkpaw, Hawkpaw, Owlpaw, and Toadpaw." She smiled at her kits: Hawkpaw, Owlpaw, and Toadpaw, marvelling at the fact that they were growing up so quickly. 

"Rowanpaw, you have always shown curiosity, and for this, and the completion of your training, today you shall become a warrior. I hereby name you Rowansky. I trust that your loyalty to the Clan will stay true as the leaves to an evergreen.

Foxpaw, you have always shown excellent hunting skills, and for this, and the completion of your training, today you shall become a warrior. I hereby name you Foxbreeze. I trust that your loyalty to the Clan will stay true as the leaves to an evergreen

Kinkpaw, you have always shown bravery, and for this, and the completion of your training, today you shall become a warrior. I hereby name you Kinkblaze. I trust that your loyalty to the Clan will stay true as the leaves to an evergreen."

Willowbranch paused to catch a breath before giving her kits their warrior names.

"Hawkpaw, you have always shown excellent climbing skills, and for this, and the completion of your training, today you shall become a warrior. I hereby name you Hawkstep. I trust that your loyalty to the Clan will stay true as the leaves to an evergreen.

Owlpaw, you have always shown excellent fighting skills, and for this, and the completion of your training, today you shall become a warrior. I hereby name you Owlstrike. I trust that your loyalty to the Clan will stay true as the leaves to an evergreen.

And our last apprentice to warrior is Toadpaw." She paused for a second. 

"Toadpaw, you have always shown efficiency, and for this, and the completion of your training, today you shall become a warrior. I hereby name you Toadpool. I trust that your loyalty to the Clan will stay true as the leaves to an evergreen."

Willowbranch nodded towards the slew of cats. "Congratulations to these new warriors; I know they'll do us proud."

Willowbranch signalled with her tail that the ceremonies were over. She searched for her new apprentice in the crowd, giving Stumpypaw a nod to signify she'd be over soon; she was going to go to her kits.

specklekit, now specklepaw bounced excitedly, her eyes shone as she gazed around the camp looking for her new mentor. she jumped down into the clearing her tail standing strait up in the air she dashed around looking from cat to cat trying to find a cat that looked like they could be berryheart.

[Lionhearted]

Toadpool was slightly mortified that his mother had performed his ceremony, but was proud at the same time. Smiling, he pranced up to Willowbranch, trying not to seem too immature. "Thanks, mom!" He said, purring. "It's a great name, I love it."

[Babylonranger]

A muscled silver tabby tom sat on the outskirts of Leafclan's camp clearing, striped tail flicking back and forth as his yellow gaze reflected none of his disinterest. He certainly wasn't expecting his name to be called, or for Sunstar (Willowbranch really, the mousebrain) to give him an apprentice to train. What the blazes were those two thinking?

His tail now still and laid flat on the ground, Nettletooth glared at the Leafclan deputy before searching for the apprentice assigned to him. What was the young cat's name again? Eaglepaw? The silver warrior towered over the new apprentices, expression blank once more. "Which one of you is Eaglepaw?" he asked. May as well get this catastrophe over as quickly as possible.

The Ceremonies arrived at long last! Moons of training was finally going to pay off, and in return, a warrior name was to be received and remembered by the Clan for generations until it fades into the sands of time, where it would be lost forever once more like they never existed. It seemed like a tragic thought to behold, but it was truth and somewhat of an honour, even if it was quite temporary in the eternal time span.

Rowanpaw had pushed her brother out of the apprentices' den at the call for a Clan meeting, thereafter proceeding to dash towards the spot just below where Willowbranch stood. She wasn't sure why Sunstar wasn't the one to be heading the ceremony, but she didn't question the deputy's ability to do the same - Willowbranch can command the respect of her Clanmates, with or without Sunstar. The ginger apprentice sat and watched, containing as much of her excitement as she could, waiting for her name to be called as the kits were named to apprentices. When it finally came to her turn, she stood up straight and gazed at Willowbranch with shining green gems of eyes.

"LeafClan has my loyalty, even through to my death," she meowed, raising her tail high. In a quiet whisper that only Willowbranch could hear, she added, "Could you still teach me how to nab at the toms who can't keep their mouths shut?"

Sparkleap sat at the back of the crowd, tail tip twitching impatiently as the names were called out, not knowing if his two apprentices were deemed ready to have their warrior names. He was anxious. If Kinkpaw and Rowanpaw didn't receive their names today, that could mean he hadn't been good as a mentor. It meant he failed to train them well. It meant he would never be good enough even in the eyes of the leader or his apprentices.

but when Rowanpaw and Kinkpaw had their names changed to full warrior ones, the golden tom breathed a shuddering sigh of relief, quickly following it up with a cheer of pride. I did it. I did it! He successfully trained his first two apprentices! Surely, his family would give him some sort of recognition...? Maybe he shouldn't bother about it now - Rowansky was bounding towards him, fierce pride lighting those twin orbs of sight of hers.

He purred with delight, touching a nose to her ear, "I'm so proud of you and Kinkpaw... I mean- Blaze. Kinkblaze."

[Flight of the Thunderbird]

A sandy-silver blur made its way towards Nettletooth, her mentor. "Here," she panted, here I am. I'm Eagleki- no, Eaglepaw. You must be Nettletooth, correct?"[/b] Her long, fluffy silver-tipped tail waved calmly behind her. Maybe she could veisit her siblings after. She wondered why they didn't become apprentices.

Nettletooth nodded once, observing the young she-cat before him. "Your training will start bright and early tomorrow morning. I expect to see you ready to go then. You may spend the rest of your day today however you wish." Dismissing Eaglepaw with a flick of his tail, the senior warrior left the camp clearing, intending to take his frustrations out on some prey.

River cloud looked up in surprise as her name was called out. Her second litter of kits had been born about a moon ago, yet she didn't want to be a queen again. It was hard enough with her first litter and now this? She padded up to Bumblepaw and touched noses with him. Hey Bumblepaw, I'm going to be your mentor from now on. She was excited to have another apprentice, since she had more experience now.

Nightkit - paw. Nightpaw. Nightpaw looked around for her mentor. She was an apprentice! The normally calm cat bounded about, looking for Blackscar. One of the few warriors she had talked to, and she was going to be mentored by her! Composing herself, she glanced at Speckleki-paw...Specklepaw... with a smile as the kit-newly-apprentice tried to find Berryheart. Calmly. Yes, totally calm.

Kinkblaze

Kinkpaw had pretty much been ready to rip his own tail off with excitement. Sitting through the other announcements made it hard for him to sit still, which was odd seeing how patient he usually was. but, this was different! This was something that would change his life! Sorta. It meant that he was becoming something more than a young cat that could be ordered to clean out the dens or pick tics off of elders. Which was a huge plus, who liked those tasks anyways? Of course, it also meant it might get harder to hang around with Sparkleap, and that was not really something Kinkpaw looked forward too. but, he could think about that later!

His name was called to come forward along with the other apprentices. The curly furred tom was afraid he might trip over his own jittery paws and face plant in front of the whole clan. How embarrassing would that have been? but, he managed to take a few steps forward with his chest out and eyes burning with delight. The same eyes slid over to Rowanpaw, who was not far from him. Kinkpaw just knew she had to be feeling the same excitement as he was.

Willowbranch's voice rang clear as she started giving names to the cats around him. When Rowanpaw, RowanSKY, received her name he sent her a pointed look of enthusiasm. Even though the she-cat didn't quite like him, he still wanted to bound over and congratulate her. Rowansky was a beautiful name. After Foxbreeze received the warrior name, Kinkpaw snapped to attention trying hard not to quiver with anticipation. Kinkblaze, he was kinkblaze now! The name warmed him and he had a hard time waiting for the rest of the ceremonies to end. He wanted to run to Sparkleap and thank him.

When it was over, he made his way over to the golden tom just as Rowansky did. A pleased purr escaped him as Sparkleap told them of the pride he was feelings towards the two of them. "We have you to thank, Sparkleap." Kinkblaze glanced at Rowansky hoping that what he had said was something she agreed with too. "I couldn't have asked for a better mentor." Even if his mentor was a little bit unhinged.

Stumypaw

Stumpypaw! That was her new name. She rose to her paws, chest puffed and proud as she looked over to the other new apprentices. Everyone was slowly and shyly meeting their mentors and the small fluffy she-cat realized she had yet to meet hers. Of course, she knew of Willowbranch but the two of them hadn't met formally. She had noticed the deputy nod to her, so Stumpypaw took that as a sign that the older cat would be over to her soon. Right now, however, she wanted to find her mother.

Her large eyes flicked through the crowd, searching for the unmistakable pelt of Doebreeze.
