Maybe Things Will Be Different [Fal]

Falcon

The sky seemed almost moonless tonight, there was barely more then a sliver present, but there lay stars aplenty making up for its lack, lighting up the sky above. It beautiful- each twinkling body sitting way above, each an ancestor looking down on those who looked up at them.

Snores and Z's came from every which way within the camp, surely a similar scene in each of the clans at this time. No one was really out with the exception of the late night guard and a few stragglers like himself; it was for that exact reason that Jaggedbreeze found himself in the middle of the camp, staring up at the sky. He'd given up in his futile attempts of sleep, since every time he closed his eyes he heard the straggled, blood curdling cries of his enemies and allies. The great battle still haunted him. It was on that day that he'd nearly lost his life, but that wasn't what haunted him the most.

His worst memory was of being in the Medicine Cat's Den (he assumed) in a nearly comatose state, with his hearing still in tact. He had heard his brother's cries of desperation for Nightpoppy to save his life. Never before had he heard the tom sound so... broken.

"Hey, why are you still up?"

A groggy voice caused the spotted tom to roll over onto his stomach and sit up, "Couldn't sleep." The two exchanged a simultaneous "nightmares", one being in the form of a question and the other in a statement before sharing a look of understanding.

"Don't stay up too late, alright bro. I have a fun joint training session planned out for tomorrow that I'll need you and Thistlepaw to join in with if you're up for it."

With a small smile on his face Jaggedbreeze meowed, "Wouldn't miss it," before Sharpfire turned around flicking his trail and shouldering his way back into the warriors den leaving him once again in his own peace of mind.

Leaftail was out that in the camp as well, watching the stars as they winked and blinked in a rhythm similar to the movements of her chest as she breathed, she wondered what it was like up there, she looked down at herself and imagined what it would look like with stars in her fur, she thought it might be pretty

Even though everything was quiet and in his mind he was at peace, his brother had turned his senses on causing him to notice a few little details that hadn't quite registered in his mind before. The way that the slight breeze blew through the pines causing a faint rustle, and how if you strained your ears enough you could imagine and picture the river rushing in the distance. Each little detail made the scene even more beautiful. The most obvious thing was something that came to the eye though, rather then the ear and the mind- a figure of a cat in the clearing. How hadn't he noticed that before?

Rising all the way to his feet from his seated position the young warrior inched towards his clan mate until he could tell who it was- a fellow warrior Leaftail. The two hadn't really exchanged words as far as his knowledge recollection went, but they were clan mates and den mates so he did know her name. Since he was in a better of moods, voice low he opened his mouth, "Couldn't sleep either?"

Leaftail looked over at the sound of a voice and recognized, albeit only slightly her denmate, he seemed to believe she couldn't sleep and she smiled a little "No not really, but I haven't tried yet" she said quietly so as not to wake anyone who might be sleeping "I like looking at the stars sometimes"

"It's a nice night out too." The spotted tom's tail flicked from side to side as he lifted his head to look back up at the sky once again. I wonder if she's up there now. She could be one of two cats- Dawnwhisper or his mother. He hadn't seen the Leafclanner since they had last met at the Pond of Truce back right before he became a warrior when Sharpfire, then Sharp-paw, had busted them. He didn't even know if she survived the battle on her clan.

And then his mother... the Stormclanner had left when they were still kits, probably ran off with their father or something who was a Midnightclanner. but no matter how far the distance apart, all three of the clan, or former clan cats were looking up at the same sky- the same stars. So in a way, they were still close together, they just needed to find a way back together. "Do you mind if I sit here with you?"

[Falcon]

"not at all" she said with a smile "lovely day for a bit of stargazing, my dad used to climb up trees back when he lived in Leafclan, my mom says that her fences weren't as tall but she still got a good view of the stars when her Twolegs used to let her outside, but now she's able to do it here all she wants" Leaftail sighed softly with a faint smile on her face

Something that she had said peeked Jaggedbreeze's interest as he settled down beside his clan mate. Her father was from Leafclan and mother... kittypet? So she's not from Stormclan at all... That was a lot worse then how he had it. At least he was partially from Stormclan, so when he was younger he could only get teased for being halfclan, not totally nonclan.

"Do you know how to climb?" He wasn't going to say anything about his mom or dad because he assumed that she would maybe already know, since it wasn't exactly a secret and never had been one. Besides, it didn't matter anymore. He was loyal to his clan and he wouldn't do what his mother did... not again. That was a once in a lifetime mistake and there was no way in the name of Starclan another she-cat would get the chance to captivate him in such a way, especially not one from another clan.

Leaftail nodded "my Dad, Thundershadow, taught me when I was an apprentice, my sister Whitehawk taught me how to swim too" she said with a proud puff of her chest, unlike some she wasn't ashamed that her mother was a former kittypet and her father used to be Leafclan, after all they were loyal Stormclan warriors now, and they loved each other and their kits so what wasn't to be proud of?

Huh... Jaggedbreeze was learning more and more about his clan mate. Maybe he should invest more time into them. He knew his brother inside-out, and the two balanced each other out, so maybe now it was time to start branching out a bit. Get to know more then just the names of his family, and learn more about their stories- who they were, where they came from. "My only talent is hunting and swimming, but even then I'm not that great." The sentence ended and just seemingly floated off into the air, followed by a low sheepish laugh.

For a while he believed he had nothing to offer, but as he got better and better at the few things he could do, he began to see potential in himself. Once he went into rehab though for his injuries it was practically like he had to relearn everything that he had once known, start over from scratch. He was definitely getting there, but he had a long way to go, "My brother, Sharpfire, is amazing at fighting. He helps me out, and his stamina makes it like he can go on forever." Err... well he tries to help me... I'm still no good. but he kept that to himself.

"I'm best at climbing but I'm not bad at fighting, I'm a terrible hunter though" she flinched with a slight grin my brother is pretty good though, he's a bit quiet though, it's hard for him to make friends but that's just the way he is, he's really sweet though"

Seems like we'd get along... Other then Mistsky and Sharpfire he didn't really have any friends, since he'd kept to himself and started turning into a bit of a social grouch. In fact if it hadn't been for his apprentice, Thistlepaw, those would probably be the only two that he bothered to talk to. but no, here he was. Perhaps it was because there was no one else around to pose as a pressure, or maybe because he was just in a good mood, but he was enjoying this small chatter.

"What's it like in a tree? Being able to be so close to the sky..." He himself had never, not once, set foot in a tree. He didn't know what it was like to feel the breeze running through his fur, feeling like you were on top of the world. It just didn't seem like a Stormclan thing to do, trees were for Leafclanners... trees were for her. And just like that a small frown twisted onto his lips before forcing it away to a smile.

Leaftail heard the toms question and smiled faintly looking back toward the sky "it's almost...like flying... you're so close to the sky and the clouds it's as if you can reach your paw up and touch the stars" she looked at the tom her eyes shining "it's an amazing feeling, maybe I could show you some time, you might like it"

Touch the stars huh... That seemed impossible and improbable, yet it could be done. Not literally, but pretty close. It was almost kind of hopeful; even the things that seemed to have no way of being achieved could come pretty close to doing so. If you fooled your mind into thinking something, then your body would follow. Maybe that's why Leafclan seemed so unstoppable- the sky was the limit and they were always the closest to it.

Jaggedbreeze was caught off guard for a moment, at Leaftail's offer. Part of him wanted to say yes, not many cats in his clan knew how to climb, and yet another part of him willed him to turn it down. He met her eyes, and he could see a slight shine in them. It was as if she were excited or passionate about it, he didn't want to be a fox-heart and shoot her down. There arose the problem though, because he also didn't want to be reminded of Leafclan, so he did what he thought was best. He made no promise, but he didn't reject it all together, "I might have to take you up on that offer sometime then."

Leaftail nodded but knew he probably wouldn't want to try, Stormclan wasn't very fond of climbing but she knew he didn't want to hurt her feelings so she didn't say anything instead turning her eyes to the stars again "so you and your brother are close then" she asked quietly

Jaggedbreeze had a feeling by her drop of eye contact as well as the subject that his attempt to neither accept nor decline didn't go so well, and he had no idea if this hurt her or not, so with his eyes still on her he meowed, "I mean it. I mean how many cats can say a Stormclanner taught them to climb." He offered her a small smile and a chuckle, before turning to look at the stars as well.

At the mention of his brother his smile grew a bit wider, and eyes a bit fuller. To say they were close was an understatement. They were two peas in a pod. They were all the other had, all that was left of their family. When they were younger they learned to depend on each other, and it was that reason that he was still here. Their affection was unspoken though, "Yeah, growing up he was all I had." He left out the part that he had also defended him from all the bullying and the scorns. "We watch out for each other and protect each other. No matter the fight we go into it side by side, and leave that way too." Dead or alive... we have each others backs...
