The soft wind that picked up around the Sunsetclan camp, carried with it a colder chill than before. Walking from where she had been resting in the warriors den,Vineheart crossed the camp and felt the light wind caress her long coat whichwould be coming in handy these next few moons. Around her, the camp was just coming to rest for the day, cats returning from patrols, others going to sleep after a much needed meal. Conversations trickled through the air around her however inside, Vineheart was only filled with a heavy quiet that settled like lead in her stomach and made everything else seem so much further away. Reaching the leaders rock in the center of camp through the muted conversations and slow motion actions of her clanmates, Vineheart bunched her legs and took the leap, almost slipping with one hind mitten. Righting herself, the deputy gaveher chest a few licks before turning to face her clanmates milling below.
The small tabby took a deep breath and couldn’t help but feel like she were in the wrong place. Down there, golden eyes flicked to the base of the rock, was where she normally sat, easily able to look up at Ratstar where she now stood. This was different, Ratstar was no longer here to take the ceremony and it fell to her.Taking a seat and wrapping her feathered tail around white mittens, Vineheart addressed the clan.
“All those old enough to swim in the seas of Sunsetclan, please gather for a clan meeting!” she yowled across camp, hearing her voice carry out on the slight breeze.
Vineheart was not a shy cat however this responsibility was certainly heavier when it weighed on your shoulders. Ratstar always made it look so effortless. There was a pause, as Vineheart weighed up what to start with first, watching cats gather below as her mind went from one to the other.
“Before we begin with the Ceremonies, I would like to address the bout of Greencough that has found its way to us. I ask that if any of you are feeling unwell, or have any symptoms, you go immediately to see Mintpaw.” That golden gaze roved to theMedicine Cat apprentice before she spoke again. “If you need anything, please let me know.” The two of them had to work together even more so with the absence of both Ratstar and Sparrowleaf. Looking back over the rest of the clan, Vineheart gave pause before continuing on with something exciting. Greencough was certainly not something she wished to have to bring up but it was a curse Leafbare threatened every year.
“Let us begin the ceremonies,”Vineheart continued.
“Foxpaw,” she started, looking for the long-furred ginger cat in the crowd. While her apprentice Ceremony had been delayed, this one would not. “You have shown true dedication to your training and have improved in leaps and bounds. From this day forward you will be known as Foxstorm, warrior of SunsetClan. Your bravery and kindness will be a strong asset as you continue your path forward.”
“Tumblekit,” Vineheart went on, spotting the three legged apprentice within the gathered cats. “Tonight, you begin your journey to becoming a Warrior of SunsetClan. From now on, you shall be known as Tumblepaw and Petalbreeze will be your mentor along the way.”
“Dewkit” Vineheart said, moving on to the next kit, a silver she cat. “Tonight, you begin your journey to becoming a Warrior of SunsetClan. From now on, you shall be known as Dewpaw and Silverwind will be your mentor along the way.” A strong swimmer was Silverwind, which would be good for the new apprentice.
“Scorchkit, tonight you begin your journey to becoming a Warrior of SunsetClan. From now on, you shall be known as Scorchpaw and Thornfrost will be your mentor along the way.” Catching the eye of Thornfrost in the crowd, the senior warrior nodded in acceptance before his blue eyes locked onto his new apprentice and he stood to his feet smoothly.
“Foxkit,” came the last ceremony. “Tonight, you begin your journey to becoming a Warrior of SunsetClan. From now on, you shall be known as Foxpaw and Foxstorm will be your mentor along the way.” Even though Foxstorm had just been made a warrior, Vineheart had no doubt that she wasn’t up for it.
>>@flameheart –let me know if this doesn’t suit and I have a back up.<<
“And that ends tonight’s ceremonies. Once again, I stress the importance of visiting Mintpaw a visit if you need to. We need to remain strong.” Flicking her tail and taking a deep breath, Vineheart stood and leaped down from the rock into the sea of cats below. Well that… had certainly gone better than expected. Licking her chest once more, Vineheart looked around the camp at the celebrating cats, the noise no longer dull and her stomach no longer heavy.
Atthe deputy’s dismissal, Thornfrost wove his way through the crowds to find hisnew apprentice, Scorchpaw. From what he had seen of her from around the camp, she had a mind of her own but was eager to learn. “Scorchpaw,” he said in his level tone, spotting the black she catand closing in on her. “I’m Thornfrost, your new mentor. Congratulations.”
The tom was known around camp for his serious nature and excellent fighting skills. He was more than ready for his next apprentice, perhaps even excited, however none of it showed on his white and grey face.
