Shadowpaw stretched and yawned, padding into the clearing. He was done with training, which, to him, hadn't been very hard. It was satisfying to know that he had kept up with his skills, and hadn't fallen back. He was also glad that the warriors had enough sense to keep their opinions to himself; if anyone talked about the 34-moon-old apprentice behind his back, he would've definitely lashed out. Haha, just kidding. I couldn't do that. Briarstar would kill me. He was still not allowed to leave the camp, which was starting to feel like a prison. I'm not letting this confinement crack me. I'm going to tough it out, and show her that I can do this. Kill me, pfft.
He still remembered Briarstar's threat to kill him if he caused any trouble, or showed signs of mischief. So much for respecting their own code. Didn't the warrior code say not to kill others unless necessary? Hypothetically, it would've been much easier to just chase him out. It's like she's pregnant or something. He'd seen plenty of birthing females who had been twice as fierce as him. He usually stayed away from hostile she-cats. Even Shadowpaw, then Rex, had known about the importance of offspring. His father's words rang in his head again: when huntin;, ya don't kill the young'uns, ya hear me? Those are the ones who'll grow up an' make more young'uns. If ya kill 'em, then they ain't gonna be able to, ya hear me? So go for the older, slower ones. Give the young'uns time to get their energy together, and when it's all spent, go for 'em. Ya hear me?
And young Rex had remembered. He knew it would be inevitable to avoid Briarstar forever; she was the leader. but for now, while he was alone, he could check out the other parts of the camp, and the other warriors. Perhaps he would finally settle down. Shadowpaw sighed and lay his head on his paws.
