Sandykit was padding over to a group of warriors, hoping to meet some new cats. She had decided to go with a group of cats who were going to leave the Clan to wait out the greencough. She was only a kit and if she was going to survive, she would have to leave the Clan for leaf-bare. 

Sandykit saw a young tom sitting with the warriors. She remembered he was coming with them. His name was Hickoryclaw, she thought. "Hi! You're Hickoryclaw, right? You're coming with us to leave the Clan."

Hickoryclaw spotted the she-kit approaching her, and smiled down upon her warmly. "Hello," he said pleasantly. He vaguely recalled her name: Sandykit? That seemed right.

"Hi! You're Hickoryclaw, right? You're coming with us to leave the Clan."

Was that a question? Or was that merely a statement? Either way, to him, it showed knowledge... Hickoryclaw was surprised that she seemed to understand what was going on. "Yes," he replied, "I am Hickoryclaw, and I am leaving with the group to escape this greencough." He had thought about this long and hard. Was it worth leaving? Would Thrushleap ever let them back in again? Hickoryclaw had decided to leave only because had decided there was really nothing worth loosing. He rarely interacted with Ferretflower, his mother, and his siblings; he had never met his father, who was probably a kittypet. And this seemed like an adventure. but did Sandykit know what she was getting into? "Are you willing to leave your family for this?" he inquired her; he was testing her. On the outside, she seemed so innocent; however, it seemed to him in that simple sentence that she, at least, knew what she was doing... he tilted her head, mildly interested.

Sandykit looked at her paws. He had asked a very personal question. In truth, she never talked to her family. Her father was Shadowfoot, but she never talked to him. She never knew her mother. Tears welled up in her eyes. No. She couldn't cry. She had to stay strong.

"I hardly know my family." she responded, "My siblings don't talk to me and neither does my father. I don't care if this journey is dangerous. I have nothing I care about in this Clan. All I want to do in life is to be a mother who doesn't leave her kits, I want to be the mother I never had." She dipped her head and let her tail droop.
