The StormClan deputy was laying on her side in the nursery, her eyes heavy with sleep as she slowly awoke from her nap. It won't be long before you join me in StormClan, little ones. She thought lovingly, raising her head and leaning over to rasp her tongue over the ginger and white fur that framed her swollen belly. Pushing herself up into a relaxed position, the heavily pregnant queen's jaws stretched in a wide yawn. Her mouth, however, didn't get a chance to close before she let out a startled shriek as a wave of pain washed over her. Finchsong gasped for air, the pain from the contraction having driven all the breath out of her lungs. She took a deep breath before calling out for her mate. "Crowfrost!" She yowled, the last syllable being cut short by a whimper of pain.

As this was her first litter, Finchsong was unfamiliar to the waves of agony that come with kitting. The queen flopped back onto her moss nest and let out a grown, letting her head fall against the soft green bedding. Oh StarClan help me get through this. She thought, squeezing her eyes shut and clamping her jaws as another contraction wracked her small body.

Crowfrost who had been out hunting at the time of Finchsong's shriek of pain and cry of his name turns when a cat comes rushing his way. Glancing down he recognizes his brother's daughter Streampaw. " Crowfrost! " She says her green eyes round, her pelt sticking up from running. " Crowfrost! Finchsong was calling for you!" She says her tail tip flickering fur still on end. " She sounded in pain!" She adds urgently to her uncle.

Crowfrost doesn't need to hear anymore, before he is dashing in the direction of camp. The prey he'd caught earlier totally forgotten. Bursting through the Stormclan camp entrance he bounds quickly into the nursery nearly bashing his head on the entrance way. His hazel green eyes blinking rapidly in the dull light he looks around. " Finchsong?" He calls his deep drum like voice filled with worry. " Streampaw said you called me and she sounded worried." He adds, padding to his mate to find her writhing in pain. Gulping he tries not to allow his fur to prickle with alarm. " It's happening isn't it?" He says nuzzling her forehead softly. " Should I get Nightpoppy for you?" He asks trying to remain calm. Though inside the large tom's belly was doing back flips.

Finchsong looked up as her mate entered, her chest heaving with the effort as her body prepared itself to push the kits out. "It's happening isn't it?" Crowfrost asked and she forced her head to nod in reply, too out of breath from the pain to answer. When the large tom asked if he should get the medicine cat, she took a deep breath to force out the next words, "N-nightpoppy...yes..." The moment the last word fell from her lips, she let out a yowl of agony and dug her claws into the moss beneath her, another contraction gripping her and refusing to let go.

Crowfrost despised seeing his mate in so much pain. It made his heart ache and belly to writhe. Shoving his misgivings aside, he watches as Finchsong nods at his question her words coming in stammered gasps. About to turn, the she-cat's agonizing yowl makes the large tom jump. Eyes fraught with worry he, turns back to touch his nose to her cheek. " Hang on." He says before dashing out of the nursery and bounding into the medicine cat den. " Nightpoppy! " He yowls, his hazel green eyes seeking the medicine cat desperately. " Nightpoppy come quick! " He calls, wanting to return to Finchsong's side immediately.

Nightpoppy was in the middle of a nap when she heard her name being yelled urgently. She jumped out of her nest and looked at the den entrance. "What is it?" she asked. She was still half asleep, her eyes crusted over from rest. Slowly her vision returned and she saw who was calling her name.

"Oh! Crowfrost! Is Finchsong having her kits?" She asked while gathering poppy seeds as fast as possible from her herb collection.
