Ferretpaw now sat stunned in the apprentices' den. Yesterday she was told by Bramblestar(Legit). That till she received her warrior name and was deemed loyal she must be a apprentice. The bad thing is if she disobeyed one order they wouldn't hesitate to chase her off ruining her chances of ever being one of MidnightClan. Huffing the displeased she-cat looked out the den. Where was Eaglestep?

Dawn had come upon the clans and everyone was beginning to bustle about. Orders were being given about who was doing the patrols to start off the day, and mentors were dragging their apprentice's out of their den (some going more willingly then others). That's the exact fate that awaited Eaglestep as he made his way across the clearing.

The day prior the sandy tom had been assigned by Bramblestar to train the clan's newest recruit- Ferretpaw. He was to polish her fighting and hunting techniques and teach her the ways of the clan before she could receive a warrior name. It was really no surprise that the job had been granted to him, after all he had been the one to encounter her in the territory and bring her to the camp. The only other cat he could've foreseen being given the job was Bramblestar himself, but of course he probably had some other more important leader things to attend to.

Eaglestep fluffed out his pelt as a shiver ran down his spine, the leafbare snow numbing his paws and the freezing weather numbing his body. What a great atmosphere for her first official day in the clan. "Rise and shine Ferretpaw, we have an exciting day ahead of us." The plan was to stick to the traditional first day procedures that most mentors stuck to- a tour of the territory. He was rather surprised to find the younger she-cat already up, "Someone's up early. That's good. Come on, let's get this started."

Flicking her nose Ferretpaw tasted the air. She was so hungry! Lost in her thoughts she let her olive green eyes wander outside. Snow covered the camp pawprints everywhere in the snow. Huffing she knew she was just lucky for her long fur. Huh patrols eh? Sounds.... Interesting. Deep down she knew all she felt was dread. How was she supposed to learn to feed and fight for cats who she barely knew and weren't her friends! She didn't give a piece of fox-dung about them!

Shaking her head Ferretpaw thought she needed to learn to have a positive attitude. but to be honest she didn't really care about hunting for a large amount of strangers right! Yes right. Continuing to watch cats go there and that Ferretpaw started to think. How about she just aided them in hunting? That could work no? Snapped out of her thoughts by a very welcomed voice Ferretpaw purred replying. "Oh yes of course Eaglestep!" Ferretpaw was a bit fond of him but the tom was still just a stranger, in a way...

Seeing that Ferretpaw actually seemed content with seeing him made everything a whole lot easier. It would've ended pretty badly if one hated the other's presence, especially since they'd be seeing a lot of each other while she was still in training. Flashing a toothy grin Eaglestep turned so he was heading towards the entrance of the camp, gesturing with his tail for her to follow.

First stop was going to be the river that served as the Stormclan border, then they would circle around and head to where the oaks turned birches at the Leafclan border. It wasn't going to be a short journey, but to make things go by a little bit faster he planned to use their travel time as the time to fill in the basic knowledge that the brown apprentice needed to know about the clans. That would consist of the warrior code, all of the clans, their ancestors, how things functioned in the clan (hunting and border patrols), and then if time allowed an overview of what the rest of their training was going to be like. Good thing it's still early. Other mentors would've been able to skip just about all of this information, but no, he was in the process of building a warrior completely from scratch. This was certainly going to be quite the experience, but if he could do this, it would make training other apprentices seem easier for him in the future.

The sandy tom stepped into and out of the entrance to the camp, before cutting left into the territory, waiting until Ferretpaw was at his side, "So tell me, what do you think you know about the clans or have you noticed about us?"

Ferretpaw hurried to his side. It wasn't quite the effort since she was much smaller making it easy for her in speed. Nose flicking in the air Ferretpaw sunk in the feeling of already diving in training. "What do I know?" She echoed, Well you obviously live in... 6 Clans depending on the scent I first smelled.. Most clans have a.. Medic- Medicine cat.. You guys are lead by a leader, named Bramblestar?" Her head was pounding by this new information that she somehow mustered.

Argh it's not like she cared about The Clans, or any of it! Why was she still here? Ferretpaw had been airy this entire day which was really only about a hour.. Eyes drooping the apprentice's eyes flickered over to Eaglestep... There was no way a warrior like him was even bother denying to apprenticing Ferretpaw. He was to cookie cut a loyal to his leader... So freaking cookie cut she hated it!

Ferretpaw: Sorry for the late reply, I hit a bit of a stump in muse ;-;

So it seemed that Ferretpaw did have some knowledge on the clans in her few hours here, which lead Eaglestep to believe that she had probably been wandering around their territories a bit before finally arriving in Midnightclan. It was very basic knowledge, but it was some nonetheless. "That's right, there are 6 clans- Whisperclan, Stormclan, Leafclan, Sunsetclan, Talonclan, and, the obvious, Midnightclan. Each of us are led by a leader who always has the name somethingstar. They were gifted eight more lives by our ancestors in Starclan to lead us. Traditionally speaking we are all supposed to have a medicine cat, and a medicine cat apprentice. They're skilled in the art of healing and have a very close connection to our ancestors." All the information he was sharing was something even the youngest of kits knew, so it felt a bit odd to have to be relaying it to someone that probably had never been exposed to it before. In a way though it was also refreshing. "We share borders with Stormclan and Leafclan, which is the main places we'll be visiting today."

Gradually he began picking up the pace to see how well the brown she-cat would be able to keep up. Luckily for him he wasn't like the long-haired, heavyweight cats, so he didn't sink as far into the snow, but the fresher patches tended to slow him down. "All clans are lead by, and united by a warrior code. We're all supposed to follow it, but of course rule breakers will be rule breakers. Sometimes you can't blame them though, gotta live a bit." A small chuckle escaped from his mouth, sometimes things could get kind of routine and boring, and while he wouldn't intentionally break the code, if his heart called for it it would be under consideration, "The rules are pretty basic- you can't fight to kill unless in manners of self defense, you can't take a mate from another clan, no fighting under the full moon, a kit must be 6 moons to be apprenticed, the leaders word is law..." He continued listing the basics before letting out a lengthy huff of breathe. "I know it's all a lot to take in, but once you get it, it sticks."

Ferretpaw kept up with him quite well, but that was mainly because she was small and longhaired. Snow stuck to her long whiskers taking down her body heat a bit. Sniffing she looked at the ground for a hint of movement. Mousebrain! Your not going to get any luck there so just go back to the task at hand, learning about the clans! Huffing she tried to understand a little bit. "Though you can't take mates outside your clan, I want to know why not just let love be love? I mean it's not anyone's business!" It was quite obvious the clan life wasn't in her best interest, yet it was so interesting Ferretpaw didn't know why she hadn't left yet.

Eaglestep couldn't help but purr in amusement. Her question was something a lot of younger cats asked, and even some matured ones. It's just the way things were. You were supposed to stay loyal to your clan, so by taking on a mate in another one it was almost like you were binding yourself to one other then your own. "It's just the way things are, Ferretpaw. Not all things make sense, but whoever made up this rule saw something worth including it in the code." With a twitch of his tail he allowed silence to wash over himself. Nothing but the sound of the wind whistling through the oaks playing against his eardrums. It gave him time to think.

In all honesty only being permitted to fall in love with someone inside your clan wasn't always all that bad. There was enough diversity within the bloodlines that inhabited the territory, but the abundance of differences didn't run only in genetics, but in personality as well. In a single clan, a single "family", one could find all ranges of any personality trait thought possible. They were so large and populated that some could venture to say that they barely knew the names of the ones sleeping in the nest next to theirs. In some ways it was saddening, but in others intriguing- there was always something new to discover.

"We're almost to the river."

Ferretpaw nodded, though it still didn't make sense she held her tongue. "Hmm, I see. Sniffing she wondered what it would be like if she was still a rouge yet had a mate inside the clans... Ferretpaw backed away at the words river... River=Water. "Ahem, sorry Eaglestep but do you expect me to go near.... Water?!"

Someone isn't very fond of water. Eaglestep stopped walking, turning to face Ferretpaw who had moved away from him. His eyes were soft and friendly, almost warming. Based on how the new apprentice had reacted he could only assume that she had somehow been traumatized by water and had developed a fear of it, or maybe just the idea of slipping in and drowning didn't appeal to her. "We won't be going in, it's most likely starting to freeze over. And even if it isn't swimming isn't our thing. All the river does is serve as a border between us and StormClan. I won't even take you to the edge of the bank, we'll stay far enough back where you won't have to worry about anything."

The sandy tom advanced towards the she-cat only by a few steps, a soft smile had worked its way onto his maw, "Trust me, everything is going to be alright. We won't spend much time here at all, and then we'll be back into the trees." Jerking his head backwards in the direction that they had originally been heading in, he gestured for her to continue moving forward, "I won't let anything happen to you." And he meant it when he said it. Not only was Ferretpaw his responsibility, but it was also his personal mission to get a good impression of his home and the life that she would now be living. Harm coming her way would definitely not be a good way to go about that.

Ferret paw nodded inching forward closely. I won't let anything happen to you. You don't hear that often, someone promising to protect you. And it doesn't happen often that Ferret can believe them.

Something just snapped that cord.

"F-fine... I'll go with you, just once though!" Sniffing hotly the fiery apprentice turned away. Pride wounded by how she might have revealed her fear of the thing she hated most... Water.

That had taken a lot less convincing then he had expected it to, which was a good sign. It meant that a bond was being established between the two and Ferretpaw was able to convey a feeling of trust towards the older tom. That would be important, not only for their training, but just the overall picture of her staying in the clan. That one trait is what allowed the six clans to function- trust in their leaders ability to guide, their medicine cat's ability to heal the weak, and their warriors's abilities to defend and provide.

"Once is all I ask for."Eaglestep turned and began once again in their trek, but this time at a slower pace. There was no need to rush to the river, because that would mean rushing into unease. Yes, they would be losing daylight but they'd simply pick up the pace in their venture away from the water, which he was sure his apprentice would appreciate. In a further attempt to relax the tension and nerves he drew the conversation away from the clans for a bit, and instead deciding to let Ferretpaw do the talking, "So Ferretpaw, tell me a bit about yourself."

Smiling she appreciated his effort to change the conversation. "Well, first is I was born a rogue... I'm only 18 moons about to turn 19 moons... I guess you already noticed but I'm quite small for my age. I'm a bit snappy and irritable all too quickly, and well though I don't show it I'm too over protective, don't tell anyone I said that..." Stopping she looked over at Eaglestep before continuing.
"Hello Eaglestep, my name is Ferretpaw..... Apprentice of MidnightClan. For now, but trust me I won't take it easy on your...." Smirking she turned away to gaze at the scenery of MidnightClan's territory.

An amused purr escaped the sandy tom's throat, "Your secret is safe with me. I like that confidence you have, I can tell things are going to be fun around here once this boring intro is over." Nothing good ever came from taking it easy, so if Ferretpaw was offering him a challenge, then a challenge is what he would accept. "but Ferretpaw, be careful because whatever is thrown at me, I won't hesitate for a second to throw it right back." Eaglestep winked at his apprentice, a smirk crossing onto his maw mirroring hers. This was how a mentor and apprentice should be able to be with one another- joking and friendly, and yet still have a mutual respect for one another. After all, they were both helping each other to grow both as clan cats and as well as individuals.

"I meant to ask you when I was bringing you to camp, but what was it like living as a rogue?" Curiosity glowed within his eyes. Part of growing involved learning new things, and that was another thing- Ferretpaw could teach him things no one else could, as he could her. None of his family or friends had lived the life of a loner or rogue previously, so naturally he was a bit intrigued. Just the thought of being able to be carefree, not caring about boundaries or loyalties exhilarated him, and yet in the same sense it scared him. With so much freedom there was so much that could go wrong, and that's what set clans largely aside from the outsiders. They followed a code that was meant to keep the chaos out.

Ferrepaw shivered shaking her head.
"Argh, never be a rogue. Every cat is vicious and without rules. Others are so quick to backstab you... Feel lucky. Even though you have limitations at least you can feel safe and know your with cats loyal..."
Sniffing she remembered when her mother ran off as they were already weaned and at the right age to protect and feed herself.
"but yeah, your blessed Eaglestep..."
