Adventurous Hearts (Lionhearted)

Lionhearted I decided to make the Flamestep and Rosetail thread, because I didn't see you make it... =P

Flamestep padded out of the undergrowth and into the clearing around the Pond of Truce. He was feeling adventurous today, and let his paws lead him wherever they wanted; which just so happened to be here. He padded toward the pond, and sat down next to it, looking at his reflection. He grinned, and licked his paw before drawing it over his head. Then he looked at himself from each angle, making sure every hair was perfect. Then he stretched, and lay down in the sun with a content purr. What a lovely day. He thought, smiling a bit as he closed his eyes.

Rosetail was feeling up for another trip-- not that she was tired of being in StormClan. No, she was never tired! It was so different from WhisperClan, and she'd been here so long, but she never failed to be thankful of her choice to join a new Clan. I never belonged there anyway, with Frostberry and Goldenfox always lurking around.

Perhaps I should visit the Pond of Truce, she thought. It's been a long time since I went there. I never really liked Gatherings. clambering up, Rosetail nodded a good-bye to Finchsong, grabbed some travelling herbs, and headed out. Chewing the bitter leaves along the way, she suddenly felt a spike of adrenaline. Yes! For today (and tomorrow), she was free from duties! She had a whole day to herself!

Half-running half-walking to the Pond of Truce, she had gotten there just as night had fallen. The stars above glimmered, and Rosetail bounded forward- and skidded to a stop.

There was another cat there already.

Flamestep had arrived at the Pond of Truce at around sunset, and had rested there until the night. He even hunted a bit, and started his own fresh-kill pile! but then, right as he was settling down to gaze at the twinkling stars overhead, he heard noise behind him.

Standing up and whirling around, he raised his haunches in an attempt to look menacing, just in case the noise was a badger or fox. but his green eyes widened in surprise as the noise wasn't some other creature, but it was another cat. StormClan, by the smell of it. He lowered his haunches to the ground and sat, starting to groom his fur. "Good evening." He began, his voice calm and luscious. "What a lovely night we're having, hmm?" He grinned at the she-cat.

Rosetail stiffened as the tom suddenly whipped around.

"Good evening. What a lovely night we're having, hmm?"

She frowned. "We haven't started the night together. And what's your name?" she craned her neck to sniff him. SunsetClan. "What are you doing out here?" He's not bad looking, she mused to herself. but he looked like he preened himself way too much- more often than a bird, even. He was sleek and shiny, and he was still licking his fur while talking to her. "Are you going to look at me while you're talking, or at yourself?"

"My name is Flamestep. And what would your name be?" He turned his green gaze to the she-cat. At her next comment, he laughed. "Of course! It's difficult not to gaze at a she-cat who has the beauty you possess." He grinned again, and then waved his tail in a beckoning motion. "Why don't you come over here? The stars look dazzling in the pond."

"Erm... I'm Rosetail," said Rosetail uncertainly. He certainly had a charm with his words, but could she trust a SunsetClanner? He was supposed to be a rival! but the Pond of Truce is supposed to be for peaceful meetings, a voice in her head reminded her. "Uh, thanks, hehe."

"Why don't you come over here? The stars look dazzling in the pond."

Hesitantly, she approached the pond with flattened ears. Wow. He hadn't been lying about the stars, but she thought that his face in the reflection looked better with the stars in the background. It was as if he was part of the sky. "It is nice," she agreed. "but you haven't answered my question. Why are you here? To stare at yourself?" she mused.

Flamestep glanced over at Rosetail as she gazed into the pond, a content smile creeping over his lips. At her next question, he laughed again. "Oh, yes, I've come here to gaze upon my handsomeness." He joked in a sarcastic tone, gently bumping the she-cat's shoulder with his own. "No. I came here for the reason that I felt a little adventurous. What about you? What would a lovely she-cat like you be doing all the way out here?"

"I'm just taking a break," said Rosetail, shrugging as if it was done by everyone. "I've been working pretty hard, so I thought I would take a little trip to have some time by myself. but I guess I could share it with you," she said, flashing him a smile. "So how's SunsetClan doing? Is Ratstar doing well? How about Vineheart?" Flicking her tail, she returned her gaze towards the Pond. "There's so much in the world to explore, but we're confined to one small region of it. And yet, there's a lot to explore in that little region. You never know what you might find, huh?"

Flamestep gazed into the pond, nodding thoughtfully. When he spoke, he sounded a little forlorn. "Ever since I was a kit, my mind has wandered to thinking about adventuring out of this little realm we're confined in. but it's unlikely that I'll ever get the chance." He shook his fur, and his smooth tone of voice returned. "Anyways, Ratstar is doing splendid, and Vineheart is perfectly fine." Honestly he wasn't sure if either of those things were true, but he didn't want Rosetail to suspect that TalonClan was weak.

Rosetail shrugged. It seemed like the tom wasn't polite enough to return her question. Well. She would just have fun testing him, then. "Oh, that's good to hear," she said, sitting down and licking a paw, then drawing it over her ear. She continued to groom herself, inwardly amused, waiting for him to talk again. If he was going to draw her in, he might as well be colloquial. Curling her tail neatly around her paws, she stared at the sky around them, musing silently. The stars are sure pretty tonight. Are you watching this, StarClan? What are you gonna do, huh?

OOC: Yes, I did. I was just RPing my TalonClan cat. XD

After a long moment of silence, of just looking up at the stars, Flamestep spoke again. "And what about StormClan? How are Goldenstar and Finchsong? Is Finchsong coping well?" He asked, and then lay down next to the pool, gently placing his left paw over his right. He fixed his green eyes on Rosetail, tail slightly flicking.

"Yes, they're both fine," said Rosetail, unsure of whether or not to reveal information to this stranger. Not that anything had happened in StormClan. In fact, it seemed like no drama was going on, and she was beginning to wonder if she could return to WhisperClan just to get in on the exciting moments. but they were all sick, and Rosetail was glad that she wasn't. Yet. Her thoughts turned to Thrushleap briefly; was he ill? No. StarClan couldn't let him be! He was running the Clan on his own!

And what of Frostberry? she scowled as she remembered her former brother; the one who had so confidently disowned her. Well, I don't care anymore. Twitching her ears, she turned back to Flamestep. "So, do you want to tell me something about your personal life? Doesn't have to be too deep."

Flamestep cocked his head as he saw Rosetail's scowl. "You shouldn't wear a frown; a smile looks so much better on you." He commented, flashing her a toothy grin. At the she-cat's next question, he stiffened slightly. but then he licked his shoulder fur and let himself relax. "Oh, you know..." He began, wondering how much to reveal to the she-cat. "My sister was sickly when we were young, and I took care of her always. but she's fine now." As he said that last part, the ginger tom's green eyes visibly clouded over from sorrow.

"Aw," Rosetail said. "at least you have a sibling. All mine are in WhisperClan." her shoulders suddenly sagged as memories flooded her brain. "Well, I mean, I have one brother. He's Thrushstar," she said, looking proud for a moment. "The others disowned me because I came to StormClan. They never liked me in the beginning, so I'm actually surprised they didn't do it earlier."

"WhisperClan, you say?" Flamestep asked, intrigued. Now why would all her siblings be in WhisperClan? Flamestep faintly smiled as Rosetail beamed with pride. Thrushstar... I wish him luck. The ginger tom thought. "They disowned you?" He repeated. "That's horrible. A true family member would never disown anyone, no matter what comes between them." Images of his sister with the tom came flooding back to him, but he pushed them away. "We're alike, you and I. When it comes to family, that is." He commented, looking up at the stars.
