Mudbranch limped heavily into camp his catch of a rabbit and a few mice dangling from his jaws, ever since he had broken his leg, and it hadn't healed properly, he had a little trouble doing his warrior duties but he worked hard and still managed to bring home a catch, and it only really hindered his climbing and if the weather was cold, sure he'd probably have to retire to the elders den soon because of it, but he was happy working for his clan while he could, after his time as an apprentice he wasn't even sure he'd be made into a warrior but he hoped that despite their conflicts and their differences at the time that he made both his living former mentor and his former leader proud of how far he came he still suffered from nightmares and the scar from his father teeth were still clear on his throat but it only pushed him to work harder so that his name could be remembered with fondness Clemintine

Pebblepaw walked past the nursery ignoring the annoying kits who tried to get her attention, she walked past the apprentices den and headed towards the entrance. She walked quickly but with her head held high and with confidence, her green eyes dull and filled with her calmness, she actually looked a bit peaceful for once instead of mean. Suddenly she stopped seeing an older looking warrior limb into the camp with food.

Pebblepaw tail wiggled with excitement and she quickly bounded over to the warrior staring at the prey in his mouse the whole time. She checked out the rabbit at first and decided she had better go with a mouse. Completely ignoring the warrior at first she simply stood there staring at the food. Then she looked up at him flashing her mothers eyes on the warrior "Well aren't you going to share?"

Mudbranch chuckled "don't worry Pebblepaw, I was just looking over the fresh-kill pile, making sure that nothing was starting to go bad" he nudged a mouse toward her having noticed her eye balling it "here, caught it fresh by the Dead Willow this morning" he placed the remains of his catch inside pulling out a small crow for himself "are you enjoying your training so far?" he asked with a smile, it momentarily turning into a grimace as he sat down, his previously broken limp shifting painfully as he did so

Pebblepaw placed her paw onto of the mouse, her petite paw barely covering the whole thing, she dug her claws into it and watched the tom as he talked. Her head tilted slightly and she padded over next to him sitting down before laying down toc hew on her mouse. She didn't answer him at first and she was quiet for a long time before speaking, like she was deeply thinking about something. Completely ignoring his question she looked up at him "Do I know you?" The tiny she-cat seemed serious yet calm, she continued to chew on her mouse before changing the subject back to his question like she had never said anything before now.

"Training? Pfft please my mentor went missing and my new one hasn't don't anything yet! I'm eight moons now!" she grumbled turning her mouse over playing with it more than she was eating it.

"I'm sure you've seen me around camp" Mudbranch was a rather large tom, and given his odd gait walking style it wasn't hard for him to part a crowd, "I know what you mean, my first mentor was always sleeping" he chuckled thinking idly about Ivyheart for a few moments, he should probably drag her out of her nest one of these mornings, they hadn't talked in a long time "but she's straightened up now, trained at least two apprentices after I was taken from her care, and put into your mother's, I never made things easy for them" He chew his prey setting the feathers aside to see about tucking them into bedding later "I had been hurt, Ivyheart didn't seem to care about me, my father was drifting away from me and my dreams were filled with dark thing... I shouldn't have taken it out on them, but I was foolish, I didn't know how to tell them how much I was hurting I wanted someone to hear me but I didn't know how to make them understand" he sighed "I never even got to apologize, to your mother, I worked so hard trying to find her before I broke my leg, but it didn't matter in the end" he chuckled humorlessly "I was a lousy apprentice and a terrible warrior and now... I'm just happy she didn't live to see me become the waste of fur I am now" he looked back at his oddly twisted leg "well no use crying over startled birds" he shook his head "You're a lot like your mother you know, you have her same fire and spunk" he grinned

Pebblepaw stared at her paws feeling her tail tighten around her, ah great someone else to talk about her mother, everyone was always staring, always comparing, telling her how much she looked like her mother, how much she acted like her..blah blah. She felt her chest tighten and she looked away from her mouse and the warrior. "My mother? Didn't live? What are you talking about... my mother is in the nursery..." Pebblepaw turned to glare at the tom, her eyes cold and mean now.

She stood up laying her ears back close feeling herself get worked up she tried to keep calm and serious. "She never told me she mentored you.. guess you learn something new everyday." The little miniature Pebblestar was completely denying her relation to the passed leader now.

Mudbranch didn't press her about what she said, merely nodding "you have a bit of your father there too, you hold yourself like him, proud and strong, I'm sure you'll be just as loyal as him too" Mudbranch shifted again trying to get comfortable "I suppose she wouldn't mention me..." he glanced toward the sky briefly finishing his prey with a few swipes of his tongue around his mouth "no one enjoys mentioning their failures after all, not when they have plenty of accomplishments that they can speak of instead" he looks at Pebblepaw "just because you look like your mother, doesn't mean you have to walk in her shadow, her paw prints lead her path, just as yours will do the same, I look like my mother too but she and I will never be quite in step with one another, you should be proud of your parents, but also proud of yourself, that was the mistake I made, I grew so listless and confused just trying to get someone to see me, I did foolish things just for a little attention, I followed my father into a dark dark place, and there he... well we didn't speak much after that nonetheless" the scar that on his throat a glaring reminder of his own fathers rejection "you're probably sick of cats comparing you to your mother" he flicked her gently with his tail "but don't fret it to much, they may see your mother at first but you're Pebblepaw, and they know that" he started to wash his face "come what may: storm, drought, or sickness, you'll always be you and you have a great life coming your way"

She looked up as well, they were close enough to the entrance she could see out of the dark and gloomy cave and at the bright blue sky. Her eyes wide and full of worry and confusion, her father? Who was her father, no one had ever mentioned him, only her mother because she was this leader that was said to change the Clans by leading a new one... so what was her father like? 

Glancing back down Pebblepaw felt like something in her knew, like she had met him before, Pebblepaw felt her whiskers tremble and her heart race. Everyone knew her as Pebblepaw, Pebblestars daughter, look alike. So why did she feel so alone and confused? Looking back at the Clan she desperately wished her mother was there, still leading the Clan, smiling and waiting for Pebblepaw to rush up to her everyday with exciting news about her day. Sitting back down Pebblepaw wrapped her tail tightly around her paws. Perhaps her father.. just him would also be nice.

Suddenly she understood, she was jealous everyone else knew her mother, when she never even got to see her. Inhaling sharply Pebblepaw didn't feel hungry anymore she wanted answers and comfort, she didn't want to be an apprentice, or a warrior, she didn't even feel like being in the Clan anymore. She glanced over towards the warrior "So.. what was she like?"

"she was... a great leader, she knew when to press and when to leave things be, but she was still only a cat, she had spats and she got sad, she loved your father, got jealous from time to time, she did her best to try and soothe my pain, but I never let her in close enough to help me heal, your father tried his best too, but he thought my pain was merely pride or stubbornness you're mother though, I think she understood a little better maybe not perfectly but better, I came here as a kit lost alone and confused and she allowed me to stay, I spent my whole life wondering why, why did my mother leave me, why didn't my father love me enough to be there, and it burn me, it eat me alive inside until I couldn't take the strain anymore, I just wanted someone to look at me and be proud I wanted someone that I could run up to in the evenings and tell about my day, about what I had done or even if I had a funny dream, my father didn't try much after he found his new mate and my mother was just a ghost in the camp half the time, I don't even think she saw me when I spoke" He shrugged masking moons old pain with that simple gesture "I think, in a way, your mother understood she tried to fill that void I guess, but I was just so afraid to let someone in, so afraid of being let down again that I didn't even try until it was to late" he glanced at Pebblepaw "I cried, when I found out what happened to your Mum, I begged Briarstar to let me out to see her, I probably messed my leg up worse doing it but I at least wanted to say goodbye, I doubt she even wanted to hear my voice, but...I tried" He grinned sadly for a moment "You're father though, I think you'd liked him, he was a honorable warrior in every since of the word, he never slacked off, and when Ivyheart wouldn't train with me he'd take me out and we'd practice warrior stuff, he got different when your mum disappeared, he went out to find her... but he never came back" Mudbranch laid his head down "he'd be proud of you though, you're a fighter, fierce and willing to take the whole world by storm, you get that from him I like to think" Mudbranch grew silent for a moment "they were both there for me in their own ways, when my mind began to crumble, your father was a little more 'pushy' in his attempts to bring me around, but again I think that was more his misunderstanding of the cause then anything, but he kept watch over me while I suffered, made sure I kept at least attempting to eat while I was lost within myself, I don't think he's gone for good, not really, I might still be a foolish tom but part of me feels like he's still out there somewhere, lost or trapped trying to find his way home, he was the closest thing to a father I ever had... and I failed them both"
