Owlpaw hadn't been an apprentice for long. In fact, she'd only been given her apprentice name and mentor a few days ago at sunhigh and it had been the most exciting day in her short life!
So why was she nearly bored to tears?
She wanted to train, to fight, to hunt, to get her paws dirty and serve her clan, yet it seemed like she was being assigned to do the most mundane of chores and she was having the hardest of times focusing on her assignments. She could hear her mother nattering away, scolding her for not enthusiastically wanting to check the clan elders for ticks. She'd already made the mistake of tasting mouse bile once and never again. Maybe an apprentice wasn't all it was cracked up to be, but she'd be changing her tune after she caught her first vole. Today she had spent most of her time cleaning out old bedding and replacing it with fresh moss. Lakewhisper promised to take her out for training later in the day, before night rolled in, but that was still a while away. The chill of morning was just leaving her bones and the warmth of the afternoon sun was gracing her back as she crossed the clearing, her long fluffy tail twitching as she was lost in thought. She felt darn well near starved and it was time to have something from the fresh kill pile.
Her mind kept drifting to the coming season of leafbare. It would be her first and she wanted to see snow, but greenleaf hadn't completely gone yet either. Before snow the leaves would catch fire and fall to the ground. That excited her more than anything.
