Thunderstar padded out of his den and made his way into the center of the clearing. “Whisperclan! I have news that involves the entire clan’s well-being,” He yowled out, glancing from one cat to another as he prepared to speak. “As most of you know or have heard already, Icetail will no longer be our medicine cat. She knowingly has broken the warrior code by taking a mate and having kits and has chosen to put her own desires before the needs and safety of her clanmates. Do not come to her with tasks or injuries; her place will now be as a warrior and nothing more.” He had been staring around the group as he spoke, but his eyes seemed to be searching out for Icetail more sternly as he drew to the end of his statement.

The leader straightened up and looked slightly boastful as he continued speaking, “Now, I am here to announce that we have a new medicine cat to take her place, and that cat is Pinefrost. Pinefrost has already had some medicine cat training, and I am confident that she will take her duties and tasks more seriously than her predecessor. She will soon be traveling to Skyfield to officially be named a medicine cat and accepted by Starclan, but you can all lay your minds to rest knowing that you have a cat qualified and more than willing to help you whenever you are sick or injured.” Thunderstar finished.


Swirlmist snickered slightly when Thunderstar made his first announcement and noticed that he clearly seemed to be ticked off at Icetail. Someone is in trouble, though that’s not surprising. Everyone knows that medicine cats aren’t supposed to break the warrior code. I’m surprised that Thunderstar even let her stay in the clan in the first place. She flicked her tail. She was more irritated by the fact that Icetail had taken a mate and kits. She knew she couldn’t have had a mate in the first place, and yet she just couldn’t help herself. Now someone has to take her place to do her job for her. And also, maybe Swirlmist was just a bit envious that she hadn’t found a mate or had kits yet, despite wanting them badly. Really, how was it that a medicine cat could find a mate, but she couldn’t?

Firepetal sighed in relief after hearing the second announcement and looked a bit calmer. She was expecting her first litter of kits and was a bit nervous, and so the idea of not having a medicine cat around ready to help when she had them had definitely seemed alarming to her. It would be all right though now, and she trusted that Pinefrost would be able to handle things. She had been a medicine cat before, after all.

Dustkit squirmed his way to the front of the crowd, though he didn’t know what was going on or what exactly this was about. He had hoped that there might be some ceremonies for him to watch.

Pinefrost was quiet and near the edge of the area. She had to admit to feeling at bit of pity for Icetail - she knew what it was like. but it had been easier. She'd given up the responsibility to her mentor. And even now, when she'd told Thrushstrike they couldn't be, she felt righteous in doing so because she was doing it for her clan. She'd cared about him, but, unlike Icetail, her clan had came first. They'd simply had different priorities. That was what would make her right for this job. but she still found herself asking for a bit of luck for the former medicine cat. May you have a long and happy life, Icetail. I will give my own possible happiness up for the sake of this clan. but better me then you. She didn't pay attention as the meeting turned to her, instead focusing elsewhere, her mind already at the Skyfield. Her clan might accept her, but, StarClan would know of Thrushstrike and she couldn't be sure they would be so trusting.

Icetail glared at Thunderstar with sharp blue eyes, her blue-gray face not giving much emotion away. The blue point she-cat sat, staring at the tom, giving away no shame to her Clanmates. Why should they treat her like that, anyway? Not only had she probably healed each and every one of them at some point or another, but she gave them kits. Kits that would grow in the Clan and become productive members of it. Unless the mousebrains of her Clans, who mostly clearly thought that Icetail had done wrong by providing the Clan with healing and even kits, bullied them to the point where they may someday leave.

Honeydawn glanced over at Icetail with a bit of disappointment in her eyes, but there was understanding and pity there, too. She was disappointed that a cat like Icetail would break the rules, yet she understood, or at least attempted to, how the she-cat felt, and the spotted she-cat felt bad that Icetail would have to deal with other cats being rude to her, including Honeydawn's own littermate...

Grassyfire snorted and glared at Icetail, baring her teeth and growling at her for a moment before looking back at Thunderstar to listen. "Pinefrost! Pinefrost!" The she-cat chanted.

Raingaze sat beside his mate, tall and proud. His blue eyes were stubborn and challenging, and he seemed unusually tense considering his general friendliness with every cat he met. but he had good reason to be tense with all the hostile looks his mate was getting. He had expected cats to be a bit upset, but really, how was it any of their business? How was their life theirs to judge? His tail lashed slightly at the thought. He had also expected to at least take half the blame. After all, he was as big a part of this as she was. but most of the cats seemed to be blaming Icetail and only Icetail, and that was not okay with him, not by any standards.

Fangice barely even noticed the meeting or the glares that Icetail was getting he was worried about his own mate. He had been so busy with patrols and hunting that he had barely had anytime to visit her and for some reason he felt like his mate was hiding something. Everytime he went into the nursery his mate acted strangely and wouldn't meet his eyes like she was afraid to tell him something. The deputy sighed and curled his tail over his paws letting his mind wonder.

Lionice kind of knew how Icetail felt she had snuck out recently to see Smoketalon and she didn't even feel bad for hiding in from her clan. She glanced at the former medicine cat from the corner of her eye. Taking a deep breath she started to cheer for Pinefrost not wanting to make herself look bad.

Hawktalon sad just outside the nursery hoping that her mate wouldn't be able to see her back here. The thing that she was hiding from her mate was the fact that she was sick, she just didn't want to worry her mate. She sighed holding her breath so that she wouldn't cough.

Cinderwing was munching on a mouse when her ear flicked at Thunerstar's voice, finishing up her meal the scarred female licked her lips and pushed herself up, pausing a moment for a stretch then walking over to where other cats were starting to gather. She stood there, mismatched eyes shifting from one cat to another then on Thunderstar as he went on speaking. She was not expecting what he just announced to the clan, their medicine cat, Icetail, has given up her rank to carry kits. Her head immediately turned to looked for the she-cat, the leader was not too happy about it.

She turned her head back to the leader when he announced the new medicine cat, Pinefrost. With that the announcement seemed to be over, the scarred warrior turned and made her way across camp and over to Pinefrost, giving a small bow of her head and a slight smile. "Congrats Pinefrost, I'm sure you will be a great Medicine Cat."

From where she stood Cinderwing glanced over at Icetail, she wasn't sure what to think. The ex-medicine cat should have known what she was getting herself into when she became a medicine cat so she believed the female deserved the attitude from the leader and other cats. You can't just do what you want, that's why there is a code they all follow. On the other hand Cinderwing understood that she probably wanted to raise a family, but still. With a sigh she nodded to Pinefrost, "See you later."

She walked over to where the ex-medicine cat was and dipped her head. "It is a shame that you will not be our medicine cat anymore.. try ignoring the others about your decision." She said softly, looking away. "You must understand why the others are being hostile, there is a code to the clans for a reason. I understand why you have made this choice..." She looked own at her paws for a moment then to Icetail with a small smile, the scars by her mouth folding slightly from the smile. "I hope you bare strong healthy kits."

Stonejaw flicked his ears at what Thunderstar said. He bowed his head respectfully towards Pinefrost and then looked at Icetail. He got to his large paws and padded over. He bowed his head towards her as well. He waited for Cinderwing to stop speaking. "Your kits are welcome by me, Icetail. If you ever need help with them, just ask," he replied, his deep voice filled with kindness.

Wolfice snarled at Icetail and then looked at Pinefrost. "We needed a new, loyal cat as medicine cat anyways! We couldn't trust Icetail," she mewed just loud enough for Icetail to hear. She growled in pleasure and flicked her tail back and forth.

Pinefrost wanted to yowl every secret she had ever kept to the heavens, because she felt way too much empathy for Icetail. Cold, emotionless, sarcastic Pinefrost being empathetic. Nope, it wouldn't work. Pinefrost padded over to Icetail and meowed, quick and to the point, without emotion yet with something deeper nonetheless in it. "You had two choices you made the one I wish I could have been brave enough to chose. They will say what they will. but thy simply can never understand. What they say, it doesn't apply. You and I know this. I simply wish to say good job." She meowed, before turning and leaving to return to her spot on the edge of camp. They are right about one thing, though. I will never do what Icetail did. This clan will come first. She made a promise, then and there, to herself. I will never fail these cats. I gave up being a first citizen of this clan to serve it. And serve it I shall. I will side with the majority. And this clan will become before everything. I will give this clan everything. Nodding to herself, she added a thought on. but I will never give as much as Icetail has given. For I will never give kits.
