Special Time With Featherkit (Lily)

Aspenpool had decided Featherkit needed more time with her. She had started to get the feeling that Featherkit felt unwanted...well more so than FELT. Aspenpool knew that Featherkit felt that way because she had heard her say it more than once. Aspenpool wanted a good relationship with her kits. She knew that Daisykit, Spottedkit, and Emberkit seemed to feel loved, but Featherkit didn't. Aspenpool was determined to make her kit happy. She had plans for it to be a special day for Featherkit. She was going to spend the whole day with her daughter. She waited in the clearing for Featherkit. She had told her the other day when she saw Featherkit fighting with Lilykit that they would have to have a talk. Little did Featherkit know that Aspenpool didn't want to yell at her, just spend the day with her.

Featherkit padded out of the nursery. She had grumpy for the rest of the day, and refused to eat. However, hunger took over and her fast ended. Her head and tail were drooping while her pulled back. Somehow, she always was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Out of all her siblings, she felt as though she was the most picked on one. She walked up to her mother, avoiding her gaze because her eyes were bitter and mad.

Aspenpool could tell that Featherkit was mad, but it didn't bother her. She was determined to bond with her daughter and make this a good day for her. "Hello Featherkit! I'm glad you joined me!" She said with warmth and kindness in her eyes. She had been nice to Featherkit, but her daughter seemed to be determined to hate her. "I wanted to spend the whole day with you. No sisters, no brothers, no Sandstripe. Just me and my little girl." She said softly, a bit nervous over what Featherkit might say. "Like, mother and daughter bonding time. Just the two of us." She wanted to take Featherkit paw skating on the now very frozen ice. She loved to do that on the tadpool ponds that were frozen over when she was little. The ice was very thick and safe now. Maybe she would teach Featherkit some hunting moves if she wanted to learn too.

"Just the two of us?" Featherkit mewed, surprised. She started to bounce around her mother. 'Yay!" She mewed, looking up at her mother' Her eyes were full of innocence. An innocence that should never see blood and death.

Aspenpool was happy with her daughter's reaction and started to purr. "That's right! No Daisykit, Russetkit, Emberkit, Spottedkit, Blizzardkit, or Snowkit. Just us!" Her eyes lit up with happiness. She wasn't sure at first if her daughter would want to spend time with her. "Let's get going! We're going to head towards the Tadpool ponds. They're very thick with ice and safe to walk on. I use to love slipping and sliding all over them with grandma and great-grandma when I was a kit! It will be fun." Aspenpool said warmly as she started padding along, waiting for Featherkit for a moment. "Stay close so you wont get cold though. I know your fur is longer than mine is though so you'll be okay."

"Ok Momma!" Featherkit cheered, heading towards the camp entrance. She completely forgot about her troubles and her feelings. She was going to hang out with her mom! No other kits to fight with. No other kits for her to get mad at. No other kits that Aspenpool has to pay attention too! Right now, she felt as though she was the only kit in the litter.

As Aspenpool walked she knew this would be a good time to also talk to Featherkit about her feelings. She wanted the kit to open up to her. She padded a little slower so that she was now walking next to her daughter. "You know, you're going to be an apprentice really soon! I bet you're excited." She tried hard not to mention that ALL of her kits would be apprentices soon....other than Emberkit, she knew he wasn't ready like the others were, he was still too attached to her. The others had stopped nursing but he hadn't. She wanted to make Featherkit feel special, so she avoided listing all the kits that would soon become apprentices.

"I want you to always remember, no matter how hard things get, You have a lot of family here in Sunsetclan. Other cats don't have that. Not only do you have me and your siblings, but you have grandma, grandpa, and great gramdma." Aspenpool spoke in a comforting tone. "I know you have a lot of built up anger towards the family Featherkit. I was hoping we could talk a little about it. I want you to know that I'm not ever going to judge you. You can tell me anything. but being honest is very important if you want other cats to respect you." She padded on a little more, hoping Featherkit would finally open up to her, especially since they had a little more to go before they reached the ice pools.

"I sure am!" Featherkit mewed happily, looking back at her mother. She listened, her ears cocked and her eyes big.

Snap.

Aspenpool hit the spot. Featherkit looked away, her shoulder slumped. "It's nothing. At least, nothing important." She mewed, not wanting to talk anymore. Family. What did it really mean to her?

Aspenpool stopped walking and looked at her daughter, she was irritated, but she wasn't going to let it show. Featherkit was the biggest brat out of all of her kits, and she wasn't going to stand for it any longer. "Featherkit, we need to talk. If you don't want a family, you're on the right path. You are too old for this. Now tell me what is wrong? If you don't learn to tell others how you feel, you won't have any friends. Do you want everyone to dislike you?" She was strict but Featherkit was disrespecting her and she was sick of it. If Featherkit wanted to be treated poorly, then Aspenpool would treat her poorly. If she didn't want to spend time with her mother, fine she would take Daisykit out for a fun day. Either Featherkit was going to start talking right now and get over herself, or Aspenpool was done with her daughter. She would cut all strings and have a good relationship with the other kits. Aspenpool was starting to think bratty Featherkit wanted Sandstripe as her own mate. She was obviously jealous of her own mother. How sad.

She turned to her mom, looking up at her. "To tell you the truth, it's me. Ok? I'm the problem. It's my feelings that get in my way, and sometimes I wish I never have them, but that wouldn't be good either. The best thing for me to do is let them all out. Even if they're bad. The sooner they're gone the better." She explained, her eyes telling the truth. She sat down and closed her eyes, sighing, "Did you really want me to spend the day with you or was it all you wanted was to straighten me out? I can't change even if I tried. I may be a brat," She looked at her mom, hers eyes shining and her laughter childish, "but I'm your brat. Now come on! I wanna play!" She smiled, running up ahead.

Aspenpool listened to Featherkit and then smiled, "Oh sweetie. I know, it's hard to talk about feelings. but you are right it's better to get them about." She softly patted Featherkit's head with her paw. She then nodded to Featherkit, "Of course I really want to spend the say with you." Aspenpool laughed as Featherkit ran away. Aspenpool might have been bad at fighting, and she still had a scratch on her side from the bird fight, but one thing she had in her favor was how fast she was. She ran after Featherkit, easily catching up to her. They were finally at the tadpool ponds. Aspenpool started to slow down as she turned to Featherkit, "Aren't they beautiful. It's like an icy leafbare paradise!" This reminded her of when she was a kit herself. She turned to Featherkit, "Go ahead! It's safe since the ice is so thick now. but remember not to slip and slide on them closer to Newleaf or you might fall through and be in a load of trouble if nobody is with you." Aspenpool was all for having fun but she also liked to teach her kits about clan life.

Aspenpool slowly stepped out on the ice and started to slide across. She was rather graceful...until she slipped and fell, letting her face break her fall. She couldn't hide her laughter as she tried to stand back up on the ice.

Featherkit laughed, following her mom on the "safe" ice. She slipped and slided, watching as her mom face-planted. "You ok, mom?" She asked, barely holding her laughter. Then, like mother like daughter, she fell too. This time, on her bum.

Aspenpool laughed delicately as she hopped back up on her feet, "Yes I'm fine." She said with a smile watching as Featherkit also lost her footing and fell over. Aspenpool smiled as she slipped over to her daughter, "You alright there?" She asked still smiling. She was sure Featherkit was pretty hardy.
