@acepaw Clemintine
Badgerthorn walked briskly away from camp, headed first for their border with StormClan, which was not only essential, but also less difficult to maneuver than the edge of the snowy pine forest on the other side.
Every few foxlengths, he paused for just a moment to look back, ensuring that his apprentices were still following him. It was Newleaf, and the flowers of the meadow were in full bloom. It was a little difficult to see the almost kit-sized bundles of fur moving through the tall grass. but the tall warrior knew his apprentices couldn't possibly lose sight of him. Not only was he pretty big, the white stripe down his back made him stick out.
"You have to keep your head up and be prepared to run whenever you're patrolling," he said sternly as he walked. "Otherwise a bird might swoop down and try to grasp you. The two of you are so small they might think you're a snack." His whiskers quivered as if at a joke, but he wasn't kidding at all.
"I'm sure your mothers have probably told you all about the border rules. You never cross over onto another clan's territory and all of that. You're not kits in the nursery anymore, so you have to keep your noses in line, alright? That means no sneaking out without a warrior..." His voice trailed off a little. What was he saying? As an apprentice, he had sneaked off plenty of times and gotten into tons of trouble. More than a lot of better cats. Did he really have the right to tell these apprentices that now?
He slowed his walk as they drew closer to the scent markers, stopping completely a few fox lengths away and waiting for his two apprentices to catch up. Two. That was two too many in his opinion.
