Ambition had always been the drug with the most strength for Blossompaw - well, that and her own inflated vanity and sense of self-importance, but who was counting? Certainly not the ginger and white youth, though if anyone was looking, you could see the blatant arrogance in the tilt of her chin, the set of her shoulders; the air of self-satisfaction hung about her like a rich perfume. If one were to wonder what could cause such an amount of feeling in the girl, they wouldn't have to look far; she was satisfied with almost everything. Her Clan, her training, the purity of her blood; all of that combined with her own knowledge of the ragged grace that she exuded, coupled with the fresh youth of her body and the acuity of her mind, to make an impressively self-absorbed cat.
In fact, it was during this unending silent self-congratulation that the she-cat was unusually unobservant to her surroundings, and it was only when she tripped utterly inelegantly on a stone that she snapped from the haze of her own accomplishments and desires. Straightening up, the she-cat swept her eyes around her. She was actually right on the edge of the birch forest; she could see the silver-skinned trees thinning out as the beach sand progressed. In fact, she realized with a kickstart of alarm, she was actually on the wrong side of the border - turning, she could see the large boulder that her patrol had scent-marked just this morning. Cursing softly, the two-toned cat took a swift step back toward the border, keen to get on her own side before someone saw her.
And then stopped.
Why should she creep around as though SunsetClan had any powerful? They were all warriors with brains full of sand; surely they couldn't be a threat. And so what if she wanted to do a little hunting? LeafClan was so strong, she was almost positive that even a common apprentice could take on their warriors - and she was so much more than a common apprentice! Grinning in delight, the she-cat dropped into a crouch, eyes flicking over the thinner-treed territory. She wasn't far from the edge of the beach, but if she headed a little farther northward, she'd probably get to some good hunting territory. Delighted with her daring and her new plan, the she-cat prowled forward, determined to bring home SunsetClan squirrels tonight.
