Ghosts of a Troubled Past (Open!!!)

Emberpelt wandered across the beach looking for prey. She had headed out alone. She didn't want to talk to anyone. She was trying to get away from the clan. She loved being with the other cats, especially Duckstrike and her kits, but she needed time to be alone with her thoughts.

Sparrow was running as fast as he could. He needed to reach SunsetClan boarder, if Shimmer-rain was right! And she was there! He couldn't think straight! Not just because of the possibility of seeing his sister. He closed off that thought. He didn't want that to cloud his thoughts of seeing his sister. 

Sparrow saw the beach ahead of him and speed up. His legs pumped faster than his heart as he ran. Then he stopped. He saw a calico cat standing there on the beach. It looked like an older version of Jay! "JAY! JAY! JAY!" He yowled on the top of his lungs.

Emberpelt turned to the sound of a cat's voice. It didn't sound like any cats voice from the clan, and it was calling out her old name from when she was a loner. She wiped around to see a cat running towards her. She stood her ground and hissed at the tom. "Stop! You are on SunsetClan territory!"

Flypelt held the mouse tightly in her jaws as she made her way across the gentle sand. Her toes sunk into the soft surface, and the slightly gravely floor was still warm from the sunlight that SunsetClan had received earlier that day. The black she-cat breathed deeply, trying to catch the scent of some other type of prey. She smirked slightly, and set the mouse at her feet. Mousebrain, when you hold a mouse all you can smell is mouse She scolded herself in her head. She breathed the scent of the water, the breeze, and...intruder? The she-cat grew ridged. Someone was trespassing on SunsetClan territory!

The she-cat hated nothing more than intruders. She nearly forgot about the mouse that she had dropped until she was nearly a fox-leap away from her catch. She soon remembered, and buried the mouse next to a patch of grasses before charging towards the source of the scent. She slowed as she spotted another SunsetClanner speaking to the rogue. Flypelt narrowed her eyes. One of the few things she hated more rogues was traitors. She would not let this she-cat get away with speaking to this loner. She did have enough sense to make sure that this SunsetClanner was not just challenging the rogue, but the loner's cheerful disposition would do nothing to make this SunsetClanner seem less guilty. She squatted behind a patch of grasses and shrubbery, her eyes fixed on the she-cat in front of her.

Sparrow was taken a back. Didn't she recognize him? He had never considered that she wouldn't remember him. "Jay? It's me... Sparrow."

Emberpelt stopped hissing and stared dumb struck, "You're not really..." She rushed up to him and brush against him. "I thought you died! What happen?!? No I don't want to know. I'm too happy right now!" She started licking Sparrow's head, "Oh and I'm Emberpelt now!" She purred and licked his nose like she had done when she was little. He had hated her cleaning him, but she had done it anyways.

Sparrow purred and enjoyed her warmth, "Oh I'm sorry Emberpelt. That is a beautiful name. I missed you." He smiled at her seeing the tears in her eyes.

Then his head flicked back. He smelled something. It smelled like another cat! Did Shimmer-rain follow him? No she wouldn't. Then who?

Flypelt gave a small nod. Her suspicions had been right all along. This SunsetClanner was obviously a traitor. The black she-cat grimaced. She would enjoy scolding this cat. Maybe she would even be able to drive this she-cat away. No, that was not so likely. Few cats were truly evil enough to betray their clan, surely this she-cat was just misguided. Flypelt would set her straight. Surely, a few cruel words would return this cat to her senses.

"Stop right there, traitor!" Flypelt called out, leaping from her hiding place. Her fur was fluffing up aggressively as she stared at the two cats - one betrayer and one rogue. "What in StarClan are you doing?! That is a rogue that you are cuddling with! Apprentices have an excuse, they don't know any better. but you, you are a warrior. You have no excuses for breaking the code and being disloyal to SunsetClan!" Flypelt turned to the loner, her fur bristling. It was his turn to pay. "And you, what is a low-life like you doing on SunsetClan territory anyways?!" She hissed.

Emberpelt flipped around. She saw a SunsetClan warrior standing there screaming at her. Well she could scream back. "I'm not a traitor! This is my brother! I haven't talked to him in over two years! You raggedy fur ball!"

Sparrow stood their in horror watching the two she-cats scream at each other. His sister wasn't the little flower she had been before. "Um... Uh..." He was trying to but into the screaming match. "HEY!!!" He tried to yell over the she-cats. He didn't mean to cause trouble coming here. He just wanted to come see his sister. Then he was going to leave. Well that wasn't exactly part of the plan, but I guess...

Flypelt's gaze hardened. "Just because he is your brother does not mean that you are not conspiring with a rogue, an enemy," Flypelt hissed, spitting out the words as though she were a snake and they were poison. "And I could care less whether you had spoken to him in the past few seconds of in a a couple million moons! He is still an outsider, and you are still a clan cat. If you want to speak to him so badly, then why do you even live in SunsetClan?!" Flypelt shifted her position to turn to the tom.

"You should have never come here, intruder," The she-cat hissed, her eyes narrowed in anger. She had just wanted to get this she-cat in trouble, but now it was growing personal. Her sister had betrayed her and her clan to become a loner. It was a good thing too, cats who lacked loyalty should flee rather than screwing up. Flypelt was angry at her sister, but not because she left. Flypelt was angry at her for making her own sister believe that she was actually somewhat loyal.

Emberpelt didn't speak for a moment. Then she hissed a quiet and low hiss, "I didn't even know he would be here. I was just out on a walk getting away from a kits, and I happened, just happened, to run across him while I was out."

Sparrow felt ashamed of himself. He should have just stayed near TalonClan. It was nice there. "I am sorry... what ever you name is... I didn't mean to cause trouble. I just wanted to see my sister. Is that so wrong?" He knew what the she-cats answer would be. She clearly wasn't like Shimmer-rain, but it was admirable that she was so loyal to her clan. What he didn't get was why they had to be so hostile.

Flypelt rolled her eyes. "There are no excuses, mousebrain. You were seen here with a loner, brushing up against him like two best friends, and there is nothing you can say to change the fact that you broke the code. That makes you a filthy fox-heart, just like half of all clan cats. We would be so much better off without scum like you to run off and forge alliances with rogues," Flypelt scolded as she began to calm down. Her fur slowly fell flat against her body, revealing just how tiny she actually was.

I should report her to Fangstar, she thought grimly. No, she needed a name first at the least. "What is your name anyways? You too, you outcast," She growled, turning to the tom. She hated rogues. She wouldn't tell one the season if he asked. All of them deserved to die in her opinion. She hardly even payed attention to what he said. She did, however, catch what name he used for her. "The name is Flypelt," She barked. "And yes, it is wrong!" The she-cat whipped around to face the cat. Her claw tips extended out of their sheathes in anger. "It is trespassing to go onto another cat's territory, especially a clans! I should be slashing your ears off now, or at least I would if this dungface was not breaking the code!" Flypelt turned to squint at the she-cat. "And traitors are even worse than rogues."

Emberpelt's fur was sticking straight up now, and her ears were pulled back and she barred her teeth at Flypelt. Sparrow moved forward and brushed against his sister. "My name is Sparrow, and what do you have aganist traitors? I thought the clans were supposed to be nice to other cats? Ya know not being too nice to them, but the will not just try to kill them on sight! Also I'm not a rouge. I didn't mean to cause trouble. I thought the clans would allow me one visit, maybe I could have joined the clan like my sister. I thought that was a thing?" He was highly confused now.

Emberpelt wished she shared her brother calm way, but he wasn't even that calm himself. She just wanted to leap at this cat and rip this crow-food's ears off! "And why should I give you my name? You haven't given me any reason to give you the courtesy of my name. You little...!" Sparrow stepped on her paw.

Flypelt took note of the she-cat's obvious hostility, but did not react. She would not give this cat the satisfaction of a reaction. Her gaze turned reluctantly to the tom, and she made sure to let it be obvious that she did not want to talk to him. but when he spoke, Flypelt could not help but to flatten her ears in anger. How dare he ask what she had against traitors? "It should be obvious why I am against traitors. They betray their clan, and in turn me. Who can I trust with feeding and protecting SunsetClan when every cat is running off with some loner?" She mewed, trying to disguise the anger in her voice. It was not the whole reason, but it was close enough.

"And who in StarClan told you that we were kind?! Usually, the others assume that we are wild and cruel, sharpening our claws on our enemies bones and all that dung." She almost laughed at her own comment. but the tom rephrased, and Flypelt shrugged her shoulders. "Loners cause traitors, simple as that. And it is obvious that you are not doing anything to prevent one," She growled, shooting a glare at the she-cat.

"Rogue or no rogue, this is not your territory to explore. You should have noticed the border," Flypelt turned back to the tom. "Once a cat chooses to be a warrior, there is no going back. This she-cat should have noticed it." Flypelt rolled her eyes and landed on the she-cat. She had to admit, this tom was not bad for a loner. She was calmer now. Her rage had disappeared for now. It must have been the she-cat that had been causing her anger, and now that she was silent, everything seemed much easier to handle. It was obvious that Sparrow had absolutely no bad intentions, and it was also obvious that the only way to get any somewhat decent conversation out of the she-cat was to be a decent cat herself. If she was going to get a name, she would have to be kinder.

Sparrow hung his head, "I'm sorry for causing trouble. I'll leave now." He could see that the cat was getting friendlier, but he knew if he tried to over stay his welcome. The cats rage would come back, and he didn't want to get Emberpelt in trouble. Which he seemed to be doing. "Bye Emberpelt, maybe I'll see you again one day. Maybe If I can find out more about joining clan." He touched noses with her and turned away jogging off along the beach.

Couldn't I kill Flypet? No... No... I couldn't get away with it.  Emberpelt's fur was still raised and prickling. A almost silent hiss still coming out. Then it just faded away. Her anger was replaced by sadness. Tears welled up in the back of her eyes, but she held them back. She shook her head shaking away the tears. "You are one cruel and evil cat." She hissed a cruel calm in her voice.

Flypelt stood still as she watched the tom go, her eyes following him as he made his way out of the territory. She wanted to make sure he actually left before she turned her attention to this unnamed she-cat. In all honesty, Flypelt would not have minded if Sparrow had come to learn more about joining SunsetClan. She liked the tom in general, even if he was a little softer than she would prefer. What she didn't like was how he was making this she-cat so happy. Happiness was not a bad thing in itself, but it was usually the wish to be filled with joy that pushed cats to make stupid decisions. Because of this, Flypelt was very confused when the she-cat mewed at her. The black she-cat was only looking out for her clanmate, after all. "I was only trying to protect you. You are my clanmate; therefore, it is my duty to make sure that nothing convinces you to betray those who cared for you." Flypelt's fur flattened and her ears perked as the tom left. It did not suit her to remain hostile. She still wanted to turn this cat in, but she was tired of being aggressive.

Emberpelt's fur started to lay back slightly. Suddenly this she-cat was getting a little bit friendlier. "I get that you were trying to protect me, but I wasn't hurting anyone! I just wanted to talk to my brother." She wanted to go on and on. Swear words were on her lips about to leap out, but this was no use. Her brother was gone now. He wouldn't come back after the way Flypelt had talked to him. "Come on lets just go back to camp. There's no use in fighting now."

Flypelt breathed an exasperated sigh, not unlike she would if she were dealing with a naive kitten. "I know that you think that now, but what if someone else saw you, maybe an apprentice? You could have taught them that it was perfectly fine to be close to those outside the clan. I understand that your situations are a little different than most, having a sibling outside of the clan and all, but to an onlooker it seems as though you were just being a rebellious, young warrior who had been looking outside of the clan to find love," Flypelt explained, trying her hardest to be calm and compassionate towards this situation. but this cat needed to know that this was not ok. Even if she never thought that this was a problem when it only involved herself, she may come to her senses and admit that it would become wrong if another cat saw her and decided that it was acceptable to get a mate outside of the clan.

Flypelt's ears pricked as the she-cat spoke again, and she nodded. "Fine." The she-cat mewed, and set off in the direction of camp.
