Sometimes you just have a bad day (Glorilyss)

Stormflower was having a bad day. She wasn't even sure why, but to her it seemed like everything that could have possibly gone wrong this day, did in fact go wrong. She had fought with her friend and had forgotten to go on the morning patrol because of this. The deputy hadn't found this very amusing, either. And then, it had also started to rain while she was out hunting on her own to make up for forgetting the patrol and to clear her head. It wasn't the light kind of rain, but a rain that had her thick, long fur plastered to her body within seconds. Cursing, she raced back to camp, only to be completly soaked when she arrived there. As she entered the clearing now, her mood had arrived at an alltime low.

Today was certainly not the best sort of day to be hunting; Larkwing noted the dullness of the sky overhead and frowned at it. She'd been out since the dawn patrol had left that morning, and the sky had steadily turned darker and more menacing. In fact, she would be willing to bet that it would rain sometime within the next few minutes, or she was a mouse. Picking up the prey that she'd caught on this last trip, she headed back for camp, barely making it into the gorse barrier before the sky opened up and rain poured down.

Darting into the thick barrier around camp, Larkwing sheltered from the downpour, a small mouse laying limp between her paws as a reward for hunting all morning. Green eyes glowed out from the short cat's face as she swept a quick glance over camp, only to see one of the younger warriors dart in shortly after, gray fur slicked to her sides and turned an iron color. Larkwing cracked a smirk. "Did you decide to take a swim?" she called, clearly joking by the glitter of sarcastic amusement in her eyes.

Stormflower really wasn't in the mood for Larkwing's comments. She knew it wasn't meant as an offense or anything like that, and normally would have reacted with a laugh and a similar remark. but not today and especially not now.
"No, what does it look like?", she snapped, turning back to the older warrior sheltering in the entrance.
Why hadn't she thought of that, too? When arriving in camp, she had run straight into the clearing, where the rain was pouring down without anything to lessen it, not even the trees. Now her fur was even more soaked than it had been before. If that was even possible.
She probably looked hideous with it plastered to her body.
If Larkwing makes any other comment, I might claw her face out, she thought to herself, just waiting for the she-cat to do so.

Larkwing would probably have passed a few jokes back and forth with the other warrior for a few minutes, had her obvious quip been met with anything resembling reason. However, the snappy retort felt like getting her fur rubbed the wrong way. For a warrior whose whole life had been dedicated to the warrior code, she didn't so much appreciate being grumbled at by some upstart new warrior. Bright green eyes narrowed to irritated slits, and the tabby warrior flicked her the tip of her tail. Normally so patient, the rain also seemed to work on the older warrior's mood, until she was halfway to sinking her claws into the ground.

"It looks like you took a swim, or else I wouldn't have said that," she replied, her voice forcefully calm. If Stormflower had bothered to look, the pale tabby wouldn't even look angry - only a tightness in her eyes belied any sort of emotion at all. but then, she'd always been on the deceptive side.

Even through her own anger, Stormflower noticed Larkwing's forced calm. She knew the older warrior's reputation as an especially patient cat, and suddenly realized that she wasn't behaving very reasonably. Even having a bad day or being in an awful mood didn't justify blaming or taking out on somebody who didn't have anything to do with it at all. It wasn't Larkwing's fault that she had had a fight with her friend, been late for patrol or that the rain had started so abruptly.
Taking a deep breath, she turned back to the she-cat. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. I'm just having a bad day", she sighed. "I'm going to go inside now before I get even wetter."
With that, she walked away towards the warrior's den.
