Cloudpaw entered the apprentices's den, unsatisfied by how her day had gone. She had training with her mentor and managed to catch a magpie for her clan, but even those events had felt...hollow. When she had arrived with the catch, her mother was there and congratulated her for it. but it was just a bird. Not even an eagle or hawk, just some type of crow with white feathers on it...

It was frustrating. Not because she was small she was weak, and that was something not even her mentor felt sure of. She would make them see, thought. She wanted to be recognized by the clan she loved so much. She wanted to make sure they knew that she was there to protect them, not to be protected by them.

The white she-cat curled up in her nest, wondering if things would be better next day.

I'm not crazy

Silverface laid in a tight ball on the dusty ground, his body wrapped too tightly around itself for it to be a natural resting position for the large tom. His eyes were squeezed shut as images flashed through his brain. Of the battle and everything in it, the blood that smothered the walls and clogged cat's throats as they choked and died, the flashing claws and glinting teeth of the invaders, their pelts like a river of different colors that flooded the once peaceful LeafClan camp. He could still hear the yowls of elders as their lives were snatched, the screams of queens as their kits were dragged away from them. In retrospect, the other leaders would say that they had spoken against attacking the weak and young, but Silverface knew that was foxdung. War was cruel, it paved a path of blood and suffering without looking to see if any of the weak or helpless got caught in the direct line of fire. but the image that haunted the silvery tom the most was the image of a rusty colored tom, his teeth bared into a viscous smile as his claws slid into Silverface's neck. The moments before Silverface died had been the hardest. he was forced to stare up at his killer, unable to move and fight back. He had been helpless. He had been weak. 

Silverface wanted to be anything but weak. 

He leapt to his feet, his fur spiking with panic-ed fury and his ears pinned to his head. He was sick of living in the past, it was time for him to get revenge on StormClan. He paced the patch of dry forest that resembled his LeafClan home, his eyes glancing around as though he were looking for a solution or for an enemy warrior. His eyes caught on a small pool that glinted with a silver light, drawing him towards it. He looked into the water, focusing until he spotted something. A cat, an apprentice. A small, white thing, sleeping peacefully. A thought struck into Silverface's grey head. He would train this cat to fight and to take his revenge on StormClan. With a sharp flick of his ear, and a lot of concentration, he pulled the cat from the waking world into StarClan. His eyes narrowed slightly as he watched the cat. "What is your name?" Silverface asked gruffly.

Cloudpaw opened her green eyes and saw the tom watching her, asking her her name. "...I'm Cloudpaw"-She answered, looking around her. She had been asleep in her nest, just seconds ago.

She stared at the unknown tom. "Who are you...?"-She was going to ask, bluntly, but then she noticed something. Could it be?

"It's this StarClan?"-She asked, not knowing how to feel-"Or it's this some weird dream I'm having?"

Silverface's eyes remained narrowed as the apprentice responded. Of course, I get a tiny one. he thought to himself quietly. He towered over her, being a naturally huge tom, and he assumed that she would have to turn her head up to look him in the eye. He could have crouched in an attempt to become closer to eye level with the she-cat, but he didn't. Maybe it was to save her dignity, or maybe it was because she didn't deserve that dignity yet. He tilted his head slightly at her question, his ears giving a flick. "Yes, it is StarClan. I am dead. but it would be hard for you to tell, for you were not even alive to see me live. Hm, yes. I am very dead. I am called Silverface, warrior of LeafClan." 

He turned his head so that it was tilted in the other direction than before. "Are you having a strange dream, eh? Well, it would seem so, for either you are dreaming or you are dead...yes, you are dreaming. I do not think I can kill you, so you must be dreaming," The older tom had a habit of rambling a bit, but it did not bother him. Why would it bother anyone else? 

"Are you good at fighting, Cloudpaw?" He asked. "Because if you have no talent, I may just have to send you back to a dream of chasing butterflies or something." Did he have that power? He was not sure, but he cared not. If she was talentless, he would find another cat to manipulate. but he thought about it, and decided that it did not matter much whether she was talented at fighting or not. She was his mentor, so it was his duty to make a good warrior out of her anyways. "Nevermind. What have you learned in your training so far?"

"A warrior from my clan...Good, I don't think a cat from another clan would had been very good"-Cloudpaw said-"You don't look old, so I can only guess you went down fighting for my clan, right? In that case, I respect you" Unless you give me a reason to not to...

When he asked if she was good at fighting, she hesitated. She didn't wanted to admit the truth, she knew she could be good. Then he spoke again and... "Only useless kits dream of chasing butterflies"-She hissed, a little offended-"I have talent, and I can prove it..."

"My mentor had only taught me how to circle the enemy and dodging the blows, but that isn't it enough...Does it?"-The she-cat asked, looking at the larger tom in the eye the best she could. She hated being small.

Silverface only half listened as she expressed her opinions of what clan he was of and how he died. He watched her carefully, assessing her physically. She was...small. Silverface had mentored many apprentices in his day, but none of them had been nearly as puny as this she-cat. They had all been large, strong toms, all capable fighters even as young apprentices. If all went well, this she-cat would be just as capable as they had been. However, he would definitely have to change his training tactiques, as they had all been created to help a large cat use his weight against his opponent. This time, he would have to help this cat use her small size against an opponent. 

The large tom snapped out of his trance as she hissed at him, and a small smile appeared on his face at her indigence. It looked out of place on the tom's face. He had not smiled since he was alive. He tilted his head slightly at her promise. "Oh, you can prove it? Good." He mewed. The tom noted the things that her mentor had taught her, and shook his head with a tsk. "Does he think you are weak? I find it hard to believe that a mentor with any faith in his apprentice would teach them to dodge before he taught them to fight." He said, his gaze drifting from the she-cat. "I will change that. Don't worry, I will change that." He mumbled to himself. "Get into a hunting crouch, we will start with that" He growled, the grin he had smacked onto his silver face still visible.

Cloudpaw sighed at Silverface's comment about her mentor. Yes, she was sure not only her mentor but her entire clan thought that way. He better not be lying when he says he can change that.

She stared at him, frowning. A hunting crouch? Something as easy? Well, if he said so. She crouched like if she was about to leap on her prey, her whole body moving carefully to not make any sound.

How is this going to help me to fight better?
