Newleaf had arrived in Talonclan. A blissful change from the harsh conditions of leafbare. The snow was starting to recede all over the territory, replaced by solid rock. Or if you were lucky the occasional blade of grass or bush of gorse. but even though Talonclan lacked a lot of foliage spring was still a beautiful thing to see and feel. This was especially true if one was sitting nearby the abandoned lookout. The abandoned twoleg structure was placed amongst the rocky terrain to optimally allow viewing of the magnificent surroundings. A breath taking view that many of Talonclan admired. 
Redpaw a handsome fluffy red tabby tom was doing just that. His golden amber eyes sparkling brilliantly in the early morning sunshine, as he looked out over the territories. The sun warming his face and extremities as he sat taking in the view. It wasn't often he just sat and looked at the world around him. but after being shown this place by his mentor he couldn't resist the occasional visit at sunrise or sunset. For once in his life, he'd allowed himself to just stop and enjoy something. It felt good too, helping him to loose track of the often negative thoughts that plagued his mind. Troubled memories melting away replaced by sheer awe at the beauty before him.

Featherstorm looked around as she made her way through the scarce spread of trees and bushes. What a struggle it was to climb all the way up here. but being on the dawn patrol and having Sunstep running after her to get her half of the job done before Briarclaw came to check on them was better than helping out in the nursery. Honestly that tom needed to learn how to have fun.

“Hey! Who’se there?” Featherstorm narrowed her green eyes as they landed on a red-furred cat up ahead. He smelled of TalonClan and her fur lay flat again as she realized he was an apprentice from her own clan. “What’re you doing up here so early in the morning?”

Redpaw who was lost in the beauty of the view, is slightly startled by the voice which calls out. He gets to his paws, and turns around his eyes landing on a Talonclan warrior making her way towards him. " Oh um it's me Redpaw..." he calls out back to her, unsure whether she'd even recognize him. Ever since he was a kit Redpaw had felt as if he was invisible. Others just tended to overlook the tom. At the she-cat's next question he hesitates, glancing to the view and then back. " Oh I was just enjoying the view..." He mumbles wondering if this she-cat who's name was alluding him at the moment would lecture him. It wasn't like he always lazed around, quite the contrary. but he'd gotten up early like he always did and just happened to pass by the lookout place. He couldn't resist taking in the view and the rising sunshine.

Featherstorm snorted as she stopped near the edge; she had never really stopped long enough to see such things. "It seems like a waste of time." she didn't filter herself.

"You'd do much better helping out at camp." she yawned, stretching. Now when did she start talking like Sunstep? "Nevermind ignore what I just said, you do what you want. I've got to finish up and meet Sunstep at the north border." she wasn't his mentor anyway so she could care less of how he wasted his time.

(I apologize for being absent, I'll be more active and if you don't have the muse to continue with these two (or have moved on) than I completely understand.) Twineheart

Redpaw felt a twinge of guilt at Featherstorm's words. Perhaps she was right, perhaps he should be doing other things. but on the other hand he hadn't been at the lookout place long and it wasn't like he constantly came up here to gawk at the view. It was an occasional treat, couldn't this warrior understand that? It seemed not....

" Oh I um..." He starts awkwardly but stops when she cuts him off. Blinking his golden amber eyes at her he flickers his slightly tufted ears up to catch her last words. " Well... Er... Alright?" He says completely off thrown by this she-cat's brisk words. Did she ever stop and breath? he wondered.

Flickering his luxurious plume of a tail he glances around wondering what it was that she was finishing up. " What exactly are you doing?" He asks her, hoping his question wouldn't earn him a snap. He didn't much like being lectured or snipped at. It reminded him too much of his parents. " Cause I um... Could help you if ya wanted?" He adds trying to be useful like she'd suggested.

Featherstorm looked quite surprised at his proposal to help her out. With his help she could finish in half the time and be at the northern border before Sunstep! She'd be the first cat to do so and the bragging rights were all too inviting for the she-cat.

"Would you?" she bounced excitedly. "Great! I'm on the dawn patrol and I still have to get more than half of the east and northeast border done. Do you think you could mark the eastern border here and I'll run ahead and finish the northeast border and we'll meet near the Catastrophic Chasm! Then we can head up north and be there before any of the others!" she meowed happily, she had given him no time to reply and was already bounding away.

"Oh!" She turned her head, "be careful around the chasm!" she called hastily over her shoulder hoping he'd hear her over the wind. The last thing she wanted was an apprentice dying on her account. She was sinful enough. She flicked her long silvery tail and let her white paws make their way onward; green eyes glowing in the morning light.

Redpaw is slightly surprised at how Featherstorm's mood changes at his offer to help. Watching as she actually bounces up and down at his words. He flushes, and flickers his luxurious plume of a tail. " Of...." He starts to say 'of course' but is cut off. He just listens to the warriors words nodding his skull rapidly. Gee she could talk fast, he thought bemused.

And before the large tabby tom knew what was happening the she-cat was sprinting away. Mark the eastern border... here.. right, he thought starting to walk forward. but then she called out to him again and he turned. Flickering his ears he gulps a bit. " I will!" he calls after her. Having no intentions of falling to his death. He turns back and starts off to mark the eastern border. His mind drifting to the catastrophic chasm. He'd never been close enough to see the chasm and wasn't sure he really wanted to. but having already agreed to Featherstorm's words, he pushes forward. Marking the eastern border as told before starting the trek towards the chasm.

Featherstorm was nearing the chasm, her energy level had increased significantly and she was determined to make things go her way.

The wind howled, echoing in the caves and cracks in the mountain. She knew she was nearing the chasm.

Not even the wind could slow her down...well mentally, for physically it was delaying her. It was a welcome relief from the heat but a pain nonetheless. Her thick fur was better for the colder seasons. It was plush and shiny, and was naturally so. Her green eyes narrowed as she saw the familiar markings of the chasm. She halted a few tail lengths away, giving her silver ruffled fur a good shake.

Redpaw had done as he was told. Having marked the eastern border he made his way toward the chasm. He didn't know it's exact location, only a general area which he had been told to avoid since it was so dangerous. but it didn't take the young tom cat long to find the chasm. Not with the way it trapped the wind and caused a eery howling noise. A noise which caused Redpaw's fur to rise, as he neared the chasm. His golden amber eyes scanning the rocky terrain for signs of Featherstorm. He wanted nothing more than to get away from the chasm. So when he spots the she-cat ahead, he quickens his pace leaping up the rock face and beside her. " The eastern border is um all set..." he says, dipping his head some as he approaches. " Where to now?" he asks, his plume of a tail swishing through the air. His eyes trying to hide how uncomfortable he was to be beside the howling pit which was the chasm.
