Lionhearted

Splashkit breathed heavily in the nursery. She was'nt very sleepy though. While most kits would be awake and wanting to play with their friends, Splashkit wanted to sleep. The calico She cat felt a little breeze which awoke Splashkit, much to her annoyance. Awwww! I was trying to sleep! Oh well! Since I'm awake, I may as well do something. The kit padded of of the nursery and into the clearing. She didn't see any cats so she at down on the grass. Very comfy, Splashkit noted.

Logpaw had just returned from camp, and noticed the small kit curled up in the soft grass. What was she doing outside of the nursery? And what was her name again?

"Hey," he greeted politely and quietly, approaching her. "Where's your mother? Aren't you supposed to be sleeping?" Smiling, he nudged her gently, trying to move her.

One of the apprentices'! but which one? Splashkit would rather not talk but since the apprentice was asking, she did talk. Barely. "Splashkit...The other kits...Out...Nursery" Splashkit quietly mewed.

"What?" Logpaw leaned in, straining his ears to hear this kit. "Ah, Splashkit! I remember you. I saw you once, I think, when I was changing nests. You were asleep. I'm Logpaw- pleased to meet your acquaintance," he said politely. "Sorry, I didn't hear you- what are you doing here? Do you want to play?"

Splashkit paused for a second. She normally didn't play with anyone but Shimmerpaw. What should I doooo? I don't really feel like playing, but... It might do me some good... but... I just... Splashkit faced the apprentice and said, "A-A-Okay!" Splashkit just hoped she wouldn't regret her decision.

"All right," said Logpaw, hooking up a moss ball. "I'll throw this, and you can catch it- just don't hit me in the face," he joked lightly. Tossing it in the air, he batted it towards Splashkit lightly, hitting it upwards with his paw in an overhead toss. "Go get it!"

Splashkit was surprised at how high the moss ball flew. The kit put away her thoughts and tried to leap up in the air to catch the ball. Her paw just barely touched the moss as it flew over her head. Splashkit trotted to the moss ball, picked it up, and batted the moss ball as hard as she could. It flew straight at Logoaw.

"Oh my!" cried Logpaw in surprise, and it hit him quite hard in the face, sending him stumbling a bit, trying to catch his momentum. "Well, could you try, uhm, batting it a bit softer...?" Somewhat embarrassed, he picked up the ball again, and lobbed it high in the air.

Splashkit hissed quietly. She knew that it would be useless to try to bat it. The calico ran back a little and waited for the moss ball to get lower. She jumped up and catches the moss with her teeth. Splashkit spat it out. It was quite fowl in her opinion. She picked up the ball and batted it more lightly than before. It wasn't a very controlled aim though so it flew a little to the side of Logpaw.

Logpaw hit it back gently in an overhead curve. "Watch the ball," he said quietly. She was pretty for such a young cat, and he smiled to himself. A new friend- that was a first. "Nice catch," he commented at her jumping. "I like your paw-eye coordination. It's precise, and I'm sure you'll be a great hunter."

Splashkit nodded. She watched the moss ball attentively. It curved a little. She waited for it to come closer. Splashkit stretched out her paw and batted the moss ball back to Logpaw. It flew quickly and with much power. The moss ball veered torward the right of Logpaw.
