Rivercloud had told Lilypaw to meet her at the Dead woods at sun high. They were going to to some hunting practice. I am so nervous! What if she doesn't like me? What if I can't teach her anything and she is never made a warrior? She decided to hunt whilst sh was waiting. Rivercloud tasted the air. She could scent a mouse scuffling among the roots of one of the trees. Instantly she dropped quietly to the ground and began to stalk the mouse. Just then the wind changed direction and the mouse looked up from its seed, alert for danger. She cursed under her breath before leaping after the mouse. but it was too fast for her and her paws slammed down on bare earth. She quickly sat up, embarrased. I ope no one saw that! They'll think that I don't now how to hunt! What if they take Lilypaw away from me because they think that I'm not fit to be a mentor?

Upon her mentor's request, Lilypaw made her way through LeafClan territory, heading for tree large fallen trees. She didn't know why Rivercloud wanted to train her there, as there were stories of kits getting scooped up by large birds that hunt there. The apprentice shivered, half out of fear, but half because of the excitement of the new adventure that would await her. I can't believe I'm an apprentice! It's going to be so much fun! Just as she came into sight of Rivercloud, Lilypaw saw her mentor looking up, embarrassed. Ignoring her expression, the she-cat apprentice mewed, "Hi Rivercloud! Are we gonna train today?" She padded up closer to the warrior, her paws itching to do something.

Yes, I thought that we'd practice our stalking today. She tried to look casual as she smoothed her ruffled fur. Okay Lilypaw, first of all you need to know how you hunt different types of prey. Her mind whirled back to her apprenticeship. What first..... Then he realised that her apprentice was waiting for her to give her an instruction. Okay. For stalking mice you need to keep you paw steps quiet and light. The mice will feel your vibration before they hear or see you. She crouched down like she was stalking some prey. Now you try.

Listening to her mentor closely, Lilypaw nodded. She watched how Rivercloud crouched down low before doing so herself. "Like this?" she questioned, peering up at the warrior. She crept silently across the ground, hardly making a sound, until, CRUNCH! Her paw crushed a stick, making it crackle loudly. Surprised by the sudden noise, Lilypaw jumped in alarm before realizing that she was the one that caused it. "Sorry!" she glanced up at her mentor with a sorrowful look in her green eyes.

Don't worry about it, no one gets it right on their first try. She was impressed though. Next time, watch where you are putting your paws though she mewed in amusement. I think that you have the hang of it though. Do you want to practice more, or shall we try hunting for real now? Am I doing the right thing? Is she taking everything in? Am I moving too fast? She began to worry. What if Lilypaw didn't understand? What she needed to do? Don't be silly. Of course she will. Lilypaw is a bright young cat and she already has great hunting instincts.

Lilypaw nodded, taking Rivercloud's advice to heart. "I want to keep practicing until I have it perfect," the gray and white she-cat mewed determinedly. "I'm gonna be the best hunter ever, but to be that I'll have to practice a lot. Once I get it perfect, then we can try for real." Her tail swished back and forth, eager to get started again.

Okay then. The tabby she-cat looked around for a small twig. She spotted one and grabbed it in her teeth before taking it over to Lilypaw. She placed it a few tail lengths in front of her apprentice. Pretend this is a mouse and try stalking it. Remember to make sure that the wind is blowing towards you so that you can small your prey, but the prey can't smell you.

To indicate her acknowledgement, Lilypaw nodded her head towards Rivercloud. "Okay," she mewed softly. "I'll remember." First checking the direction of the wind, the she-cat apprentice dropped down into the hunter's crouch. Creeping slowly up on the stick, and watching her paws, Lilypaw made her way closer as if the stick were a piece of prey. Bunching herself up to get ready to pounce, her haunches wiggled. Within a heartbeat Lilypaw was on top of the stick, biting down on it as if she were killing the thing. Pride shone in her eyes as her glance turned to her mentor.

She watched carefully as her apprentice checked the wind then began creeping up on her prey. She noted Lilypaw's excellent crouch and how she moved smoothly. Well done! That was perfect. I think that you are ready to hunt some real mice. She tasted the air and scented a mouse nearby. With her tail she motioned for Lilypaw to follow her before creeping through a clump of ferns. She stopped near a young birch. A mouse was scuffing in the roots. She whispered to her apprentice Try to catch it.

The young apprentice's eye lit up at her mentor's praise. Following close behind Rivercloud into the ferns, Lilypaw spotted the mouse that her mentor had seen and immediately checked the wind direction. Seeing as it was blowing in the right direction, the she-cat crouched down low, carefully picking her way through the fern and to the mouse. When the mouse seemed to have spotted her, Lilypaw froze. At the right moment, Lilypaw pounced. The mouse wasn't expecting her blow, and Lilypaw quickly killed her prey. Grabbing in her mouth, Lilypaw trotted happily back to her mentor.

You did it! Well done, you are going to turn into a fine hunter. Let's take it back to camp. We've done enough for today. If you want we can hunt on the way back. She turned round and began to head back towards camp. Just then she saw a squirrel gathering nuts at the bottom of a tree. She dropped into a hunting crouch and began to creep towards the prey. Then she lept forwards and grabbed her prey before giving it a quick nip to the neck. She picked up her squirrel and kept going towards the camp, turning to check if her apprentice was following.

The gray and white she-cat puffed her chest out with pride. "Okay!" she mewed joyously. On the way back, Lilypaw watched as her mentor quickly killed a squirrel. One day she'd be as good of a hunter as Rivercloud, maybe even better. Lilypaw followed her mentor all the way back to the camp, her very first mouse hanging in her jaws. The apprentice was so proud of herself that she didn't even bother trying to catch anymore prey on their way back. She was "going to turn into a fine hunter" according to Rivercloud, and she couldn't wait.

OOC: Okay, I think that this thread is about done. Do you want me to make another thread for battle training or more hunting something?

Rivercloud looked at her apprentice, her eyes shining with pride. This isn't so hard after all... She was looking forward to continuing training her apprentice.
