Rainleaf padded towards sunset island. He remembered how he had told his friends that he was going hunting solo. He sat down near the water edge and let the tang of salt fill his nose. He looked around for dawnpaw to arrive.

Dawnpaw leapt into the water and waded toward the Sunset Island, and then she meowed quietly, "I just finished my territory learning session!" And then her chest a few self-conscious licks.

Rainleaf looked over and saw dawnpaw and he ran as fast as he could towards her and said," I missed you so much... because no one plays with me". Rainleaf flicked his tail with anger with himself and said," how is training going for you and what do you want to do this time".

Dawnpaw was surprised by his warmth in his tone and turned away shyly, "G-good." She meowed, "And I don't know, but do you, um, want to watch sunset, or stars with me?"

Rainleaf wanted to slap hims elf for his dumbness. Rainleaf looked at dawnpaw and said," why don't we watch the stars together... and sorry about what I said it is just no one talks to me and its is good to have some one to talk to". Rainleaf sat down and looked up at the stars.

Dawnpaw stiffened, her fur bristled, "So, you were just pretending! I thought we are friends!" And then her fur lied flat again as she gave Rainleaf a friendly lick on his ear, "Just kidding." She meowed joyfully.

Rainleaf said," I...I...I like you a lot". Rainleaf snapped his mouth shut before any more words could come out. He wanted to say I am just kidding but his mouth wouldn't make a sound. All he could do was wait for a answer.

Dawnpaw stared at him in surprise, and then she muttered something under her breath and meowed, "Me too!" She curled her tail, "Like, as a friend." She put an emphasis on the "as a friend" part.

All the sudden he said," not as a friend". He tried to say something but his mouth went dry. He looked down and thought she is going to hate me now... she is going to hate me now. He looked up and waited for dawnpaw to answer.

Dawnpaw felt as if she had skip to a halt, she tried to push down the feeling about him, she didn't dare to think about it, speechless, she pressed her body comfortingly on his side. Only this time. She thought. but she suddenly can't imagine what life would be if without him.

Rainleaf was barely said," do you hate me now". but rainleaf pushed his side on to dawnpaw soft fur and whispered," do I have to go soon". He stood up and waited for dawnpaw to say something.

Dawnpaw looked up at the sky, it was dark, and she flinched at the thought of him leaving, "Of course I don't! Why should I?" She meowed, and then felt a huge lump in her throat as she remembered they are in different clans, she wanted to tell him that he's in a different clan and tell him to go, but she couldn't, she wanted to stay with him, and stare into those beautiful eyes everyday.
