The sun had long began its slow descent towards the horizon, painting the skies and clouds above a strange but peaceful mixture of orange and pink. Another day had in greenleaf has passed in the day of the Clans. Birds were flying overhead, seemingly following the setting west, using its dying rays as a beacon, while the sound of other prey scuttling into their burrows rustled softly in the wind.

Adderfoot was curled up in the long, soft grass, his tabby form unmoving save for the gentle rising and falling that went in tandem with his breathing. The WhisperClan warrior had taken to the butterfly Garden to take a rest from executing his duties that day; the camp had been extra noisy, which made him every the more irritable each time he tried to catch a wink of sleep. The final straw came when one of the kits rocketed straight into him while he was resting in the clearing, and with a great show of temper, Adderfoot took to this peaceful location, notifying the deputy that he wouldn't be back until evening.

One green eye opened, scanning the orangey-pink surroundings. There wasn't anyone within a fox-length of his location, save for the beautiful butterflies fluttering around in the grass. Something ticklish on his fur made him open the other eye and raise his head to look at his back, amusing him with a sight of colourfully-winged insects roosting along his spine. Adderfoot resisted moving too much, but perked up his ears at the sound of faint paw steps in the distance.

The sound of pawsteps belonged to a beautiful young she-cat by the name of Dawnthorn. She was a lovely sight, her sleek white pelt seeming to glow in the greenleaf sun. The only marking she had was a splash of cream on her face between two deep blue eyes. Her tail swished side to side as she walked, her gaze sweeping over to the lazy form of Adderfoot. She set her paws on a path leading towards him, her ears pricked in a friendly gesture.

Upon reaching him, she let out a quiet mew of greeting. She closed her eyes for a moment to relish the peaceful silence of the gardens, though the silence was broken by Dawnthorn sneezing after a butterfly tickled her nose with it's dusty wings. Snow-white pelt growing hot with embarrassment, the warrior sunk down to her belly next to Adderfoot. "Enjoying the quiet away from camp?" She asked softly, hoping to take the attention off of her.

OOC: How old is Dawnthorn again?

The butterflies had cleared off from his pelt the moment Dawnthorn sneezed, and Adderfoot gave a mock frown. "I was enjoying the idea of rainbow fur for a while there; now I'm just a plain old tabby again."

He smiled softly afterwards to show he said it good-naturedly, proceeding to stand on his paws and arch his back in a luxurious stretch. He hadn't felt so refreshed since his warrior ceremony, where the vigil and the new duties kept him on his paws majority of the time. Sure, he loved running around the fields, chasing after fast-footed rabbits and evading the deadly talons of big birds.. Ah, let's not dwell on that. The Clan life has its ups and downs.


Adderfoot sat back down, his tail streamed lazily behind him on the grass, his green eyes watching a flock of birds soar the air towards the sun. "but yes... It's worth the time to just have a peaceful moment away from camp, in the undisturbed quiet. Where there are no kits..."

He added the last bit as a mutter, rolling his eyes to the skies above. Time and again had he told the kits to stay out of the warriors' way but did they listen? Not all of them. And their mothers said I should be less temperamental. Pfft! Shrugging off the thought, Adderfoot turned to look at the snowy she-cat, ears flicking.

"What brings you out to the gardens?" he meowed.

Dawnthorn stretched, her jaws widening in a yawn as the sun beat down on her sleek white pelt. She stifled a mew of laughter as Adderfoot commenting on the butterflies on his pelt. "Aww, you're still pretty." The she-cat teased. She nodded thoughtfully as he muttered about the kits, flicking his ear teasingly with the tip of her tail.
"I needed some time away from camp too. Though it's the apprentices that bother me more than the kits." She admitted, rolling onto her back and letting the sun warm her soft, snowy belly fur.

"Aww, you're still pretty."

Adderfoot felt the fur on his neck and shoulders bristle in embarrassment. "My p-pelt's not pretty if it always looks like...like a fox stuck in a bramble bush!"

It wasn't anything, really. He wasn't used to an actual compliment from others; the tom usually received insults and other assorted negativity, particularly from the other Clans, and he was ready to bite back with scathing remarks of his own. To hear this spotless white beauty praise his tabby coat... Wait... Did I just call her a beauty?

When Dawnthorn replied to his question, he let his fur lie flat again, this time chuckling with amusement. True, some of the newer apprentices were...immature. Then again, so were some warriors. Adderfoot turned towards the she-cat.

"The apprentices bother you more than the kits? Let me guess..." Adderfoot tensed himself. "Because they do this?"

He pounced lightly onto Dawnthorn's exposed belly, batting at it with a single sheathed paw that gave him his name.

Adderfoot felt a purring chuckle rise in his throat as he batted Dawnthorn, quite forgetting about his grievance with the kits earlier that day.

Dawnthorn let out a surprised yelp as Adderfoot battered her and she swiped back at him with sheathed claws, her blue eyes gleaming with laughter. "Yeah, apprentices like you!" She retorted, flipping herself over and launching herself at the tom.
Though she jumped at him and attempted to tackle him over, a purr was rumbling in her throat. Dawnthorn couldn't remember the last time she had been so relaxed and happy. She swiped at his ears as she lunged at him" with her paws, claws remaining sheathed. "I can't remember the last time I did something like this!" She panted.

Oh, mouse-dung!

Adderfoot cursed his light build the moment Dawnthorn wriggled free and lunged at him. Her sheathed swipe at his ears distracted him enough to be knocked over and onto the ground, the breath driven out of him. She's a fine warrior! The tabby writhed to free herself from the she-cat's grip, but he couldn't stop laughing.

He went limp as Dawnthorn continued pawing at this ears. "Okay, I give in! Dawnthorn's the best warrior in WhisperClan!"

He breathed out a sigh of content, green eyes gazing at the sky. It really was a great day today, and he sent a silent prayer to StarClan for letting the Clans have such peaceful days enough times for them to enjoy it. His green oculars slowly roved to stare deep in the white warrior's beautiful blue ones.

"Neither can I," he meowed softly, slowly picking himself back into a sitting position. "Being warriors gives us less time to have as much fun as when we were kits. To protect the Clan and the code."

"You know it!" She purred, sitting up as well and swiping a licked paw over her face to smooth the ruffled fur. "We have a lot of duties and responsibilities, but that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun once in a while." Dawnthorn agreed with a flick of her snowy tail. "And we get to have deeper relationships with other cats." The she-cat added with a shy look at Adderfoot. The light of the sun was reflected in her bright blue eyes and she blinked, looking up at th sky for a moment.

Dawnthorn had picked herself up as well, now grooming down any ruffled fur that had sprung up from their little playful tussle. For a while, Adderfoot let his oculars observe her as she licked a paw and ran it delicately over her face, the stubborn tufts smoothing down to rejoin the flowing coat of her white fur that reminded him of the frosts of leaf-bare. He didn't like leaf-bare too much; it caused them suffering with scarce prey and bitter cold. but seeing such purity on a cat's pelt... The brown tabby tilted his head in thought.

"And we get to have deeper relationships with other cats," Dawnthorn mewed, a little shyly.

Adderfoot's tail, which had been curled lazily around his paws, lifted up in surprise. "Deeper relationships? W-What do you mean?"

Can I be any more mouse-brained? He thought to himself, the mental growl already biting into his brain. Sure, he had quietly took notice of Dawnthorn for a while during his warrior duties and had taken...quite a liking to her, but was he ready for the next step? Maybe. Maybe not. His tail tip flicked up and down in slight annoyance at his indecision.

Adderfoot couldn't help it as he looked up in time to see the sun reflect onto the she-cat's eyes. Dawnthorn's beautiful blue oculars were lit with a soft glow that reminded him of the skies and the waters of the Pond of Truce, or the blue-petaled flowers that could be seen in WhisperClan's lush territory. They were a magnificent contrast from the cream mask that was the only marking on her entire snowy being. Should I?

"Have you ever thought of having kits before? I mean, despite all the troubles they tend to throw up in camp, that is," he mewed quietly, scratching up the grass beneath his paws. "I've heard of she-cats who were frightened of having them from such a scenario."
