Hunting in the Moonlight (Tagged)

The moonlight lit the tips of the tall grass. Not a full moon, of course, but it would do. The tall grass. An excellent place to hunt- and hide. The name fit it perfectly. Tall Grass. Here, one could sneak up on prey easily.

It was cool and fairly breezy. Rare these days. Now it was greenleaf and it always was hot. In the moonlight, the figure of a small cat can be seen. It stalks across the tall grass. The figure looks back over his or her shoulder. Look closer and one can see it is a calico she-cat.

Sometime Before...

Rosebriar slipped outside of the warriors den and silently walked out of the camp. She hoped Thrushleap was following her. Oh well if he wasn't. She needed to do something unless she wanted to be fidgeting all night. She weaves her way through the grass aiming for one destination in particular. The Tall Grass.

After a little while, Rosebriar spotted the Tall Grass. She rushed up to the place. Rosebriar slowed her pace as she advanced nearer. She looked back over her shoulder to make sure their deputy had followed her.

Thrushleap perked up. A disturbance of air close to his ear had woken him from his light slumber, and he raised his head just in time to see Rosebriar's tail whip around the corner of the den. Frowning, he stepped off his nest lightly, careful not to disturb anyone else.

Why would someone want to sneak out by themselves during the middle of the night? Thrushleap wouldn't have cared if he wasn't deputy, but he had taken on a nasty habit of nosiness: I just want to make sure the Clan is safe. It was partially his job to keep the Clan together, and if he were to put his paw down and turn to radical solutions, then so be it.

Hold on. I'm not leader yet. This is still Fangstar's Clan. Taking a breath, he tiptoed behind Rosebriar. She was heading for a place, by the looks of her determined and solemn posture, and her pawsteps. Then, she turned around.

Thrushleap did a back-take. He hoped that she didn't find him annoying. He didn't want opposers in his Clan even before he became a "star." Regaining his posture, he said sharply, "what are you doing here, Rosebriar?"

Rosebriar's ear twitched as she heard Thrushleap. She rolled her eyes. Seriously! Just because he was the deputy didn't mean he was her boss. Ok, so perhaps it does mean that... but who cares! "I'm only going to one of the other clans to reveal super secret information," Rosebriar mewed innocently. She rolled her eyes again. "I'm just hunting. but of course, our great and perfect and deputy needs to know everything and no cat can hunt unless our deputy sends them out." Rosebriar snapped. She glared at Thrushleap angrily. Sometimes, she felt as if Thrushleap could be a real pain in the tail. but that was just Risebriar's opinion. She understood very well Thrushleap's situation but she always thought Thrushleap felt wayyyy too sorry for himself.

[Lionhearted]

Thrushleap flattened his ears. "Fine," he muttered. "but by all means, go ahead and hunt. I was just making sure," he said curtly. Sniffing, he padded away. "Just don't go near the borders," he tossed back carelessly. Muttering something incoherent, he swished his tail in annoyance and stepped away from the tall grass. Sarcastic she-cat.

Suddenly, a dark shape flew out through the grass and Thrushleap felt a sudden weight upon him. Orange eyes gleamed at him in the dark, and he dodged just in time, as a pair of jaws gobbled up dirt beneath where his head was a heartbeat ago.

"Fox!" yowled Thrushleap loudly, his voice stunning the animal momentarily. Thrushleap landed a blow on the fox, throwing it off, but the fox turned and growled, letting out a high pitched yip. Then, it leapt for the deputy again.

Rosebriar smirked as she saw Thrushleap leave. Then she noticed something. Whatever it was, Thrushleap was afraid of it. She heard the shout of Thrushleap and her eyes widened. She watched Thrushleap fight with the fox. Her fur was standing on end and her body was quivering. She heard a high pitch noise and watched as the fox retaliated and was going for Thrushleap. "Thrushleap!" Rosebriar exclaimed. Without so much as thinking about it, Rosebriar hurdled herself towards the fox and tried to sink her teeth in the pelt ands drag the fox away. Her eyes were blazing. How dare the fox set on WhisperClan territory!?

The fox let out a whimper as it felt a set of new teeth clamp on, and Rosebriar dragged it away, with the fox writhing and twisting. Thrushleap clawed it, and it jumped out of Rosebriar's grasp, pelting away into the darkness, across the meadow, and into the unknown territory. Thrushleap breathed out. "Thanks," he muttered to Rosebriar. "Still feel like hunting? I can't sleep now."

"Thanks," he muttered to Rosebriar. "Still feel like hunting? I can't sleep now."

Rosebriar nodded absentmindedly. She watched the spot from where the fox had appeared. "Do you think we should tell Fangstar? She looked worriedly at where the fox had scurried away. "I guess we should worry about the fox later. Let's go and hunt," Rosebriar mewed softly.

Thrushleap nodded. "All right," he said, "where to? I feel like this isn't the best place," he said, chuckling. Taking the lead without question, he looked over his shoulder. "So, uh..." trying to start the conversation, he asked, "how old were you? You were born in WhisperClan, right?" I think I remember her in my kithood...

"How old were you? You were born in WhisperClan, right?"

A slight breeze blew past Rosebriar. She closed her eyes briefly. Rosebriar laughed. Thrushleap wasn't a very good conversation starter. "Yes, I was born in WhisperClan. I'm pretty sure you were an apprentice when I was a kit. Hmm... Let's go hunting at the Slopes! Race you!" Rosebriar mewed cheerfully. She zoomed off without waiting for Thrushleap, even though Rosebriar knew it was hopeless.

Rosebriar moved as quickly as he rlegs would allow. Unfortunately, it wasn`t fast. She slowed to a halt as a mouse scurried by. "Stupid me!" Rosebriar muttered to herself. She shook her head before bolting again. The wind through her fur, it felt so good. She loved speeding across the open fields.

Thrushleap started out at a casual pace, and then sped up gradually. 

"Jeez, don't get so surprised!" he laughed somewhat disdainfully as he shot past her. Rosebriar had jumped at a mouse. How pathetic. His sardonic side was beginning to show, but he never noticed when he was mean and when he wasn't. "Beat you!" he cried gleefully, flicking his tail. "Next time, don't get scared by a piece of prey, eh?" he smirked triumphantly, parading in circles, waiting for her to catch up.

Rosebriar rolled her eyes. "I was not scared by a mouse! I was, paused by one. That`s not the same thing as being scared!" Rosebriar protested loudly. She finally caught up to Thrushleap. She looked around. "Hmm... What should we do?" Rosebriar thought to herself. "Hunt! That is why we`re here," She had it in her mind to do a sort of competition. It was always fun doing competitions. Right? "Let`s see who can catch the most prey!" Rosebriar whispered. Without waiting to find out if Thrushleap was participating or not, Rosebriar started hunting.

She stalked towards the sound of rustling. She watched it like a hawk. A fairly small mouse scampered in Rosebrair`s view. "Foolish mouse," Rosebriar thought. She crept closer. THe mouse was nibbling on something. It didn`t notice Rosebriar until too late. With a mighty leap and a deadly swipe, the mouse was dead.
