Sparkleap sat rigidly, his chin high in the rarest displays of indignation yet. I am n-not a flea-pelt! For a moment, the golden tom worried his apprentice was making fun of him to please himself because the mentor was terrible enough to be caught off-guard and knocked onto the ground, with the loss of fur to boot. Was this curly tom going to be the one who starts the uproarious laughter in the camp?
Yep... He began to laugh. Laugh hard and loud, probably enough to be detected by maybe even WhisperClan. Sparkleap fretted. He really hated being the centre of attention whenever it was something embarrassing. He was so meek and low in confidence with himself, that he often depended on the stronger cats to defend him or something. He didn't feel secure on his own, and he could possibly attribute to spending so much time with Rowanstrike in a bid to appease their father and earn more praise for himself.
It was with relief that the golden-furred warrior watched his apprentice head back to where they had been and shimmied up the tree, with an apparent ease that had not been there before. He felt a glow of pride for Kinkpaw, knowing the apprentice had finished his basic tree-climbing exercise. but now it was time for the hard part. Pacing some pawsteps from the base of the tree Kinkpaw was in, Sparkleap padded forward in a straight line, estimating a good distance for a flying pounce attack. He craned his neck up at the red-masked tom; he wasn't that high up, but Sparkleap gave the younger tom the satisfaction of being so.
"When an enemy patrol invades, they're not that likely to even spare their minds on anything in the trees, of, even if they do, they won't be able to sight us in time to prepare," he began explaining, pacing along the spot he had picked, ears swivelling this way and that. "Plus, they're probably being stealthy in the undergrowth and all, but we'd see them from miles away, and that's where the element of surprise will play a part."
Explanation done, he rolled a single smooth pebble into the spot he was standing on. Sparkleap let the tip of his golden tail flick back and forth, his amber eyes watching his apprentice. He then moved closer to the tree a few steps, then turned around to face the spot he had picked out earlier. "Pretend I'm MidnightClan sneaking around. Jump me when I reach that small pebble I left over there."
