His mentor began to tell him what he had seen. but, it was only a small bit before the older tom suddenly stopped talking with a defeated sigh. Kinkpaw had to force himself not to cower fearful, not from Sparkleap. but from the vision that had seemed so real that it sent his mentor in to a mental tailspin. Was it contagious? Was it something that happened to some cats at Sparkleaps age? Sparkleap wasn’t old, though! And no other cats had shown such odd outbursts. His mind continued to buzz frantically with questions and theories. He had almost missed the questions the golden tabby had rattled back at him.
”I… No, I didn’t see anything at all.” The apprentice paused, ”I only saw you and the trees in this clearing.” Kinkpaw glanced around warily, as if whatever haunted Sparkleap would attack him too. Then, that gave him an idea as to what it could have been and he gasped. ”What if you were having a vision?! Like, Starclan had something to tell you.”… or the dark forest. but, he didn’t dare say it outloud. Personally, Kinkpaw had not thought much about the cats in the stars or the ones that supposedly lurked in a forest, damned to an eternity of crow food and pain.
The golden tabby sunk down to the ground, looking miserable and exhausted. Suddenly, that feeling of sympathy came back to Kinkpaw and his wild thoughts had to take a bench seat for a moment. Right now, he had to help Sparkleap in any way he could. Slowly, the curly coated cat crept next to him and mewed, ”We can rest here for a while.” He tucked his paws under his chest and kept his head up, although his eyes were closed. Perhaps if he was calm and relax, Sparkleap would relax enough to doze off. Kinkpaw would protect him while he did, if he did.
