Brightfish almost frowned as Thistlehawk leaned in. but it felt right, and so she found herself leaning back, not pulling away. Hm. She stared at his eyes for a moment. They're pretty good looking... She bit back a smile. Only his words jerked her out of her trance.

"What is the bright furry fish thinking about, hm?"

"Why do you want to know?" she said playfully, ducking under him and squeezing out, nudging him in the shoulder. "I'm thinking about... nothing. That's right." It would've been so creepy to say "I was thinking about you," which was the truth, but she wasn't going to say anything.

Thistlehawk blinked when Brightfish ducked underneath him to squeeze back to open space, a little smirk of triumph appearing on her face as she did. Pretty smile you have there. He mused as the she-cat nudged him in the shoulder; he wasn't sure what she was trying to hide, but he didn't really want to pry for answers. Well, not yet, at least. Chuckling to himself, he ducked his head and butted the pale cat in the shoulder playfully.

"Y'know, at this rate, we're never gonna reach the Lookout. Then I have every right to say 'I told you we'd take forever!' until you sleep," he rolled his eyes in mock exasperation, dramatically turning back the way they came. "I think risking my life is much faster than walking up the slowpoke's way. Hehe!"

"Well, much faster to death!" Brightfish retorted playfully. "Hmph! We'll see who takes forever!" and with that, she ran up the slope, puffing a bit. "And you're the one who attacked me in the first place!" she called back without looking. Truthfully, the Lookout hadn't seemed important when they were playing around, and she was slightly disappointed that it was back on topic. but still, Brightfish wasn't about to let Thistlehawk get the best of her... yet.

"Is that a challenge, my friend? I gladly accept!"

Laughing, Thistlehawk reared onto his hindlegs to twist around, then took off running with a leap as he bolted up the path that Brightfish had taken. He let his forelegs stretch as far out as they could before they gripped the ground below, pulling himself forward a great length while his hindlegs closed in to take their place and push forward with another burst of speed. How he loved running, whether in the rocky terrain or out in no-cat's fields - they all gave him the same feeling of joy and freedom.

His green eyes glittered when he caught sight of Brightfish's tail, and he couldn't resist another joke, "The hawk's coming in for a second serving, furry fish!"

Brightfish shivered slightly as Thistlehawk's voice came from behind. It sounded as if he was hunting for her, and it made her jump to the side out of instinct again. "Ah!" she cried in mock anger. "You distracted me! That's not fair!" She took her time to recover, standing to let him pass. "Oh no, Thistlehawk's going to pass me!"

"Totally fair!"

Thistlehawk was laughing in between his intakes of breath, scooting past Brightfish much easier than he expected. Huh, was she losing her touch in running already? How terrible. Maybe he could ask her to join him on his daily runs around the territory the next time, so they could build stamina and spend more time together. Spend more time making fun of each other, of course! Nothing else... Where was he? Oh yeah... Wait, why was Brightfish slowing down anyway?

Brightfish slowed to a trot, and observed Thistlehawk running. He was decent looking, quite handsome. Smiling to herself, she caught up to him. "So, what now?" she asked him. "I mean, after we get to the top? Where d'you want to go then?"

The pale creme she-cat was now trotting by his side, a pace he stumbled to match because his gait had been so wide and stretched earlier. Tripping over his four paws and finally scrabbling back into balance, Thistlehawk halted, standing where he was with his tail raised in thought and curiosity at Brightfish's question. True, he hadn't thought of what to do once he reached the Lookout; he didn't know what to do at all.

"I...have no idea. Maybe just stay up there a while and admire the scenery?" he shrugged, glancing up to the section of rock he knew to be holding up the Lookout.

"Okay, then. That would be nice," Brightfish said. "why'know... you're not such a bad cat to hang out with. Even if you are a bit reckless, haha. I'll race ya to the top, there's only a bit left. What do ya say?" She was beginning to like Thistlehawk a lot; in fact, she was content to spend her future moons with him. She only hoped he felt the same, and smiled secretly to herself again at thr thought of their lives joined

Thistlehawk gave Brightfish a mock look of horror, exaggerating it with widened eyes and gaping jaws that showed all his teeth. "Are you suggesting I was never a good companion to begin with? Oh, the heartache, Brightfish! How you have hurt me!"

He did have to admit, however, that the pale she-cat was right - he was rather reckless when it came to the acrobatic stunts some mouse-brains dare themselves to do. Yes, he can be a mouse-brain himself, but at least he could prioritise his safety whenever possible...though that takes a backseat half the time. If she was my mate, I'd be nagged at until moonrise for sure! Brightfish didn't seem too bad herself. She was pretty, and seemed deeply concerned for him, like she had been when he attempted that dangerous jump across the gap. Not only that, but she was quite easy to joke around with; that was something Thistlehawk never got an actual chance to do, because he expected himself to be much more serious since his hawk incident during apprenticeship.

Then he met the beautiful loner Lyra.. Thistlehawk remembered he promised to her by the Pond of Truce the next chance he got. Part of him felt guilty that he hadn't gone there yet; he promised himself he'd go the next evening, just so the white she-cat didn't feel as if he was making a joke out of her or anything. Plus...what were these feelings that he seemed to have for Lyra? They were quite similar to the ones he was currently having for Brightfish. He swallowed. Oh, I see now... Thistlehawk shook his head.

"Did somebody say 'race'? Finally, something that I'm good at! Last one there's a three-footed fox!" Thistlehawk visibly brightened, taking off in a cheerful leap as he sped his way up the slope.
