Alone in the [Wind] -tagged

An eagle soared over top the trees that gathered to protect the LeafClan camp, their ancient arms reaching out to comfort the others, gaps in their embrace showing a cornflower blue sky and letting down the eagles cry to sharp ears. The air was hot and though the camp was protected with a cool canopy, somehow the humidity had managed to weasel its way down to torment the felines below. The eagle cried again before veering off,  just visible between the foliage way up high. Well below the canopy of trees, a large tom was thankful to have his large paws on the hard earth, feeling the teasing prickle of the grass beneath him. It was comforting though it also set him apart from everyone in his clan.

He was alone in his ground-loving, the others preferring the trees.

He had been told time and time again; A LeafClanner that was poor at climbing, how laughable.

Rising from his nest that was tucked away to the side of the warriors den, the large straw coloured tom rose to his feet and trekked out of the sleeping area, surprisingly silent despite his size. Pale green eyes took in the camp, seeing the cats, especially those cursed with long fur, sprawled around the camp as water clung to the air. As usual for this time of year the freshkill pile was plentiful however the tom didn't stop there, instead maneuvering away from the pile and sidestepping a few slumbering bodies and heading straight for the exit. Maybe it was his personality, maybe his experiences, but he hated being around this many cats at once.

A nice walk always did him good, alone of course. And firmly on the ground.

Not bothering to look around the camp to see if anyone wanted to join him or was wondering where he was going, the large pale golden tom exited the camp with a sharp flick of his long tail. Flexing his claws as he walked, his muscular body rolled under his short coat, his face neutral. Maybe he would check the borders, maybe he would find a fight.

If there was one thing that Blossomwish was absolutely not a fan of - well, besides half-blood Clan cats and other Clans in general - it was the heat and humidity of high greenleaf. She wasn't half as miserable as the long-furred compatriots currently panting in camp, but she was in no way, shape, or form exactly ecstatic to feel the oppressive weight of moist air and near-boiling heat (at least, in her mind) all day long and through half the night. Sure, they all got fatter and stronger during greenleaf, when the prey practically ran in rivers and no one went hungry - but really, Blossomwish thought acidly, they did just as well in newleaf without actually wishing that they weren't all wearing coats of fur. And if she expected to keep her speed up, she didn't think she needed any extra mice, anyways.

Speaking of mice, the ginger and white warrior had come out into the forest under the pretext of hunting, though anyone who really knew her would have recognized the lie immediately. Blossomwish didn't really do hunting. It was just too... boring. Too much patience, too much silence, all for what? A charge at prey that lasted half a second, practically? No thanks. She much preferred running - after all, the only thing that really felt better than letting loose and stretching her legs in a dead sprint was staying exactly where she was and not ending up breathless and violently overheated with nothing to show for it. Of course, there was always fighting - a particular sport she would engage in any day, be it greenleaf or not. Actually, the more she thought about it, the only thing that felt better than the wind in her fur while she was running was probably feeling her claws catch on some poor sap's muzzle or shoulder. Yeah, probably.

In fact, it was just at the thought of an honest-to-StarClan, down-and-dirty fight that she heard the noise. It was so quiet that she might have mistaken it for just the rustle of leaves overhead, but the feeling of intuition that told her someone was nearby dispelled that thought. Vividly amber eyes flicked back and forth, ears straining forward in the effort to catch any more auditory clues, gaze combing over the scenery in the hopes of finding the source of... whatever it was. She couldn't get a clear visual on anything, but upon realizing what direction the sound had come from, there was really only one way to go at the creature: the Blossomwish way. Of course.

Absolutely dispensing with any sort of precautionary, stealthy hunting crouches or creeping, Blossomwish headed toward the sounds. It hadn't seemed too particularly large, and she didn't think badgers or foxes even came out in the middle of the day. That left mostly just cats, and if there was one thing that would make today better, it would be separating some snot-nosed intruder from his pelt. So when she poured on the speed and shot through the thin screen of underbrush between her and her potential punching bag, it took her a moment to realize that the scent of LeafClan wasn't strong on the air because they were in LeafClan territory - it was because the other cat, a tom from the smell of him, was carrying the scent, too.

Trying to stop herself, the she-cat dug in her hind paws - of course, the spot that she chose to do so in just so happened to be a patch of ground covered with fallen leaves. Her hind legs did little to stop her forward movement as she skidded forward, and the she-cat had only a moment or so to think, Oh, he's sort of cute, before she had to recognize the fact that she was about to crash into the cat in a very undignified manner. Thinking to effectively stop her skid, she dug her forepaws into the ground, too - except, of course, that her momentum wasn't quite finished with her, sending the ginger and white tabby flying tail over toes and landing painfully on her back. Ouch/ She wasn't sure what hurt worse - her shoulder, or her dignity.

The hard ground was supportive of the large toms weight as he made his way through the sparse forest that LeafClan called their home. Ryeblaze had always loved the surroundings, the tall trees with their generous shade, the undergrowth that was perfect for stalking, the beautiful array of colours when LeafFall joined the party. As a a kit, he had loved to spend hours exploring through the camp and looking up to the ancient trees above him. That had all changed when he had realised his weakness and so had the rest of the apprentices. For a while, the LeafClan territory had dulled in appeal but as time had moved on, he was beginning to enjoy it again.

As long as he didn't think about his inability to make the most of it.

Today, Ryeblaze wasn't entirely sure where he was going, just letting his paws take him to the closest border in the hopes of preoccupying himself. A cry caught his attention and he looked up to see a large eagle unfurl its wings over the camp, the browns and blacks of its feathers catching in the morning light as it took on the sky fearlessly. He wondered if they ever feared anything, or if maybe they just hid it well from those around it. To him, it certainly didn't look afraid. Crying out again, the sound spiraled down to him walking beneath the trees and he slowed slightly, pale green eyes fixed on the creature that could travel anywhere it wanted. Maybe it could see further than the clans ever would. The sound of scattering underbrush hit hearing and alerted the distracted tom. Dropping his eyes from where they had been watching the majestic bird grow further and further away, he was just in time to see Blossomwish jetting towards him, a flurry of dead leaves in her wake as she desperately tried to slow down. Pale eyes widened and the tom leaped aside just in time, feeling her collide with his long tail when it didn't quite make it. Spinning, the large tom was surprisingly fast on his feet and he turned to see his clanmate come down hard on her back.

Moving over to where she had landed, Ryeblaze stood a tail length away (by normal tail standards, not his own) and looked down at her. The two had been apprentices for a short time together before his warrior ceremony yet since then, the tom had barely said two words to her - not thinking it worth the trouble. Plus, he knew what she was like simply by watching. She hadn't changed much and he wasn't getting involved with that - especially if he were to end up the source of the entertainment as per. Yet he knew he had to ask if she was alright, it was the polite thing to do regardless of their history and she had landed rather hard.

"You OK?" he asked deeply, his tail starting to wave back and forth behind him. 

Ryeblaze looked her over quickly for injuries she may have sustained in her fall while he waited for her to reply. In truth, he had no idea how she was going to react, the female a tricky one to judge at the best of times however for now, he wasn't going to let this make him nervous. She had ran at him not the other way around.

"Tricky" was a pretty good way to describe the ginger and white tabby cat, though she certainly didn't feel like it at the moment. Every part of her body was screaming at her in four different languages, each of which were only recognized as "pain" by her brain. There felt like a knot was forming on the back of her head, and a sharp stone was currently grinding into her flank as though it wanted to leave the earth and try out being a strand of hair for a day. All in all, it was pretty accurate to say that Blossomwish was not having the best time.

However, this only got worse when a tall shape stepped forward, looming over her. It was the cat from before, and she recognized him after a moment. Ryeblaze. Wasn't he that cat who had been pretty quiet during training? Oh, right, and he couldn't climb trees. but as quickly as her mind supplied the weakness, it offered up a shining positive: he was pure LeafClan. Oh, well, in that case, he could fail at climbing trees all he wanted. As long as he could fight, hunt, and not be a half-blooded, impure drag on society, right? Still, the fact of the matter was that she had been looking to attack this cat - okay, well not attack specifically him, just the idea of whomever was out there prowling around on her territory - and had ended up in a painful, undignified lump on the ground. This did not go over well. These things did not exactly brighten her day, lighten her heart, or otherwise spread joy and cheer throughout her world.

"I would have been a lot better if you would have just stayed put and let me crash into you," she snapped, but it was done under her breath so some of the sting was taken out. Rolling onto her side and sucking in air like a bass drawing in water, the she-cat carefully pushed herself to her paws. She stretched out each limb in turn, trying to work out the kinks in her shoulders at the same time as flicking a glance at the golden-colored tom. "I'm pretty sure that you'd be a bit softer to land on than that tree root I hit." She frowned, then shrugged. "but it could be worse. I could have done that with a MidnightClan cat, so I guess things aren't as bad as they seem." She spoke the words casually, but as she did, a vivid image of dark tabby stripes, broad shoulders, and vibrant green eyes flashed into her head. Hawkblaze. Not a good time to think of him; she forced him to the back. Time to concentrate on here, on now. Swooning could come later.

"I would have been a lot better if you would have just stayed put and let me crash into you," she she cat snapped, to which he were no surprised.

No, she had most certainly not changed.

She continued talking as she eased back to her feet, stretching herself out and eyeing him as she did so. "I'm pretty sure that you'd be a bit softer to land on than that tree root I hit." Perhaps if she had watched where she were going, it could have all been avoided. but did they ever think of that? No, he was much easier to blame, obviously. "but it could be worse," she continued on with a shrug. "I could have done that with a MidnightClan cat, so I guess things aren't as bad as they seem." 

He didn't say anything but watched her, waiting for her to continue onwards again with her usual sharpness, waiting for her to verbally attack him.

Silence. Nothing.

Eyes broke from her to see a mouse disappear into the undergrowth before he looked back to her to find she still hadn't continued and from the looks of it, didn't intend on it. Really? Blossomwish wasn't about to make a smooth jibe at his expense? She wasn't about to twist the snare further on his paw? Yet from experience, he knew not to count his luck just yet. She was, as just proven, full of surprises. So instead, the large, muscled tom, regarded her carefully, not as a friend but as something to be distrusting of. "You're welcome," he replied drolly to her half assed, and clear avoidance of any form of apology. Typical of her.

She seemed not to be injured and he took that as time to take his leave, not wanting to spend anymore time in her prickly presence. They were two cats that would never get along in his eyes, which didn't say much. His history made him hard to get along with, a recluse buried behind moons of carefully crafted defense. Pale green eyes blinked at her, and it was clear he wanted to ask what on earth she had been up to gallivanting around like a new apprentice however he kept his mouth shut. What did he say now? Nice to see you, Blossomwish? A lie. See you around, Blossomwish? Another lie. At a loss, the tom backed off for a few steps before turning to leave trying not to think about how another cat could have easily acted in that situation.

Trying not to think about how she might have acted around another, better respected clanmate.
