Just Have to Meet the Right Cat (Heron)

Creekkit tried as hard as she could to snuggle deeper into the mossy bed, to block out the sunshine and noises with her paws, to simply fall back asleep, but it was not possible. The sun was too bright, and the other kits were already waking up and playing with each other. She sighed and sat up.

Her light calico pelt was a complete and utter mess, but she only groomed her chest and face before standing up and glancing around the nursery. She raised her nose, hoping to smell something of interest, because she certainly did not see anything interesting. Every kit seemed to already have found a playmate, and sometimes the others would laugh at her and talk about her. It only got worse when she insisted that giant cat eating toads were very real and very dangerous, even though she was genuinely trying to help them not get eaten. Maybe it would be a good thing if they got eaten, She thought grumpily, It would teach them a lesson.

Her pale green eyes were trained on her toes as she was lost in thought. Maybe someone would find her and actually believe her. She just had to meet the right cat.

Dappledkit was snuggled against his mother's chest, listening to her breathe as she lightly dozed off. She had just eaten, and Dappledkit was enjoying the warmth of her belly as he nestled into it. He could easily hear the other kits around him squealing and playing, their tiny paws thudding against the den floor as they played leader and rogue.

Dappledkit blanched, wishing he could see what was going on. His blindness was quite the obstacle, but the ever lasting darkness was somewhat comforting. With a bit prodding from his mother, he tore himself away from her belly and wandered over to where she had directed him.

Immediately he could sense the presence of another cat. Shyly, he whispered a greeting. "Hello." Truthfully he had no idea if this was even another kit he was talking to or just leftover, half eaten prey. Something was there, something sitting and not playing like the rest of the kits. He blinked slowly and without real need, staring off in one direction that was the corner of the den. His calico pelt was shiny and well groomed, signifying that he probably stayed near his mother just enough for him to always look tidy. "You are not playing?"

Creekkit was so lost in her mind that she almost missed the quiet greeting. She leapt up, her eyes wide in fear. It was a giant cat eating toad! but when she saw who it really was, a little calico kitten, she calmed down a bit. "Hi," She mewed. Creekkit noticed how the other kitten was looking intently at the corner of the den. She glanced at the corner, finding nothing interesting, and wondered if this kit saw something at all. A thought popped into her head. Maybe he can't see anything.

but Creekkit did not know for sure, so she grinned at the kit anyways. "No, I am making sure no one gets eaten," She said with a small laugh. "Well, not really. They wouldn't want me in their games anyways." She blinked and her gaze fell back to her toes in embarrassment. It wasn't her fault. She did not mean to be a joke to them. She flicked her ear and turned her green gaze back to the other kit. "What about you? Why aren't you playing?" She asked gently, not wanting to annoy the other kit. Maybe he was in the same boat as her, unwanted in their games. Or maybe his friends were just not awake yet.

"My name is Creekkit," She blurted out. "What is your name?"

Dappledkit was pleased when the other thing was a kit, after all. He instinctively began to purr, tail twitching in friendly appreciation. He nodded in understanding when she mentioned that the other kits did not wish to play with her. They usually grew frustrated when it came to playing with him, as well. Being blind was not that big of a deal- at least, not to Dappledkit. It had taken him a while to understand that he was different, that the way he was born was not how things were supposed to be. He had no idea what the world even looked like, let alone his own reflection or his mother. "What about you? Why aren't you playing?" The kit let the edges of his mouth twist into a grin. He carefully moved his eyes into the direction of his new friend, guessing where she was placed in front of him.

"I can't see." he mewed honestly, blinking his dark, cloudy eyes at the kit in front of him. "Playing with a kit that can't see isn't fun, I suppose." His tone held no bitterness, as though he were merely stating facts. Creekkit! That was a nice name, he decided. "Hi Creekkit." The calico leaned forward in an attempt press his nose against hers in greeting, something his mother told him was a nice thing to do. but he could not see her nose, so he let his lean forward in an offering, hoping she knew to reach forward and press hers against his as well. "I'm Dappledkit, nice to meet you. We can play together."

((Heron AAAHHH So sorry for the lateness! ;-; I've been super busy all of a sudden. And unfortunately, I will probably be gone for the entirety of next week as well.))

Creekkit was slightly taken aback by the kit's particularly blunt answer. She had expected him to shy away from the question, maybe even become defensive, but she would have never guessed that he would just come right out and admit something like that to a total stranger. Creekkit knew that she would never do that. What if the other cat was actually a badger in disguise! It would be much easier for said badger to attack you if they knew something such as that. but Creekkit knew that she was not a badger, so she decided that it was acceptable for the other kit to say this.

She listened as the kit continued as he explained why the other kits did not want to play with him. She could not help but to feel a little relieved that he was not just waiting for his companions to wake up. She knew it was hardly kind of her to think such things, but she was still glad that they seemed to be in somewhat similar situations. No cat wanted to play with them.

Her whiskers gave a slight twitch as the kit greeted her and then leaned forward. What was he trying to... Luckily, she remembered how her mother had taught her that a nice thing to do when you are greeting someone is to touch noses, and she realized that Dappledkit must not be able to see where her nose was. So, after a moment of thought, she reached her head out and pressed her nose against the other kit's. "Hi Dappledkit," She replied. As soon as the other kit brought up the topic of playing, Creekkit felt a little unsure. What kind of games could you play with a blind friend? She knew of mossball, but she decided that a cat needed to be able to see in order to play that. Then there was when they were from different clans and in a fight, but she was not sure whether Dappledkit would enjoy a game like that. "I would very much enjoy playing with you," She purred,"What games do you like to play?"
